Not Impressed?

Is there anyone who was not overtaken by the 420' of TTD when looking at it from the ground? The people who saw it during the winter, media day and whatnot said you have to see it in person to really appreciate the height. To me it did not seem that tall. I was however impressed by the massive yellow support structure. The overall area it takes up and size of the supports is huge. Its amazing how much bigger the area looks now than compared to the fenced in area of last season. Bring on 500', and make it a traditional chainlift to really scare people.
are you sure you went to the same park as the rest of us?

Not only was I not overly impressed by the size, I wasn't really all that impressed with the ride. Don't get me wrong, it's a good ride. Just didn't blow me away like it did to others. I'll take MF or Raptor over TTD anyday.
Don't get me wrong, I loved TTD and I can't wait to ride it again, but I do have to agree with raptor2 a little here. I guess once we get to a certain height, say 300 feet or so, the height increases seem smaller than they actually are from a ground perspective. I personally can't tell a huge height difference from the ground between Millie and TTD. When you crest the top of TTD, it happens so quickly that you really can't appreciate the extra height advantage there either. I agree, bring on a 500 foot chainlift version!

It would have really messed up the capacity but I think a short stall at the top before coming down the other side would have been an exhilariting addition to the ride.

Maybe that is something they can add in the future.

Capacity? What capacity? ;)

May is here, the sun is out and Cedar Point is rolling again!

Unless they get a cable lift like they had for MF, a 500' lift would take ages to climb. I have seen S:TE at SFMM, and I was impressed with that. Seeing as I've never been to CP, but will be going in less than a month, I'll definitely be impressed with TTD.
I thought it would look bigger. i guess everyone saying it is sooooo much bigger in real life and you have to see it in person to get the real effect of how tall it is, probably made me think it was gonna look oh so much bigger then it is. But the question was was i not impressed. and that would have to be yes i am. I boarded the train shaking, and it would be a lie if i said no i am not impressed with the height of the ride. i just thought it would look bigger.

I think it doesn't look as intimidating as MF because the compact nature of the hill. MF's two sides of the lift hill give the impression of size, because TTD's two sides are closer together it doesn't look as massive. IMO.

That would be the illusion

Go find a 500ft radio tower... It really doesn't look 500 ft for whatever reason. Especially when you compare it with a 1000 ft (I've been right under both - dad used to work in broadcast engineering hehe). 1000 FT seems to go on and on and on, but 500ft just seems like a stub

I think its just an optical illusion, really. When driving down 2 going over the sandusky bay, look to the direction of Cedar Point and TTD just towers over the others.

I too was unimpressesd with TTD's hieght. I thought it would look HUGE......but it dosnt even look that much taller than MF. And the ride? eh, i give it a 7 overall, i take a ride on MF, Raptor, or Magnum over it anyday. The one thing i was impressed with was the flat out speed of the ride, that part is amazing.
Yeah, after seeing so many pictures I wasn't that blown away with the height...but who cares?? After you've ridden it, it won't make a difference either way!

I think I was most impressed seeing it at night (well, actually, very early AM) from about 5 miles away on the Chausee.

When standing right next to the tower, I did not think that it looked that tall. The ride actually seems more impressive the farther away you stand. There is a little nature preserve on route 6. If walk all the way to the beach you can see most of Cedar Point. From that perspective, the tower looks absolutely huge compared to the surroundings

I also was not overly impressed with the ride, although I have only ridden it once. It is just so fast that you have no time to enjoy or be frightened by the height. The launch was a rush, but not that much better then Wicked Twister (at least not worth waiting 10 times longer for)

Indeed! I just about died when I watched that monster launch trains! Simply amazing!
It's kind of hard to be impressed by any roller coasters size, because there are so many things that are so much taller than them. Dragster is pretty big for a roller coaster, but if you compare it to the hundreds of skyscrapers that are around 1000 feet, it's nothing. I was in Cleveland just the other day at an Indians game, and when I looked at the Key tower (about 1000 feet I think), I realized Dragster wouldn't even be half way up it if you put it next to it. Maybe someday rollercoasters will eclipse buildings in height, but they're still far from it.

I know people said coasters would get any taller when magnum came out and stuff, but 420 feet is really tall. It is hard for me to imagine that roller coasters will ever break 1000 feet, quite frankly, i don't know if i would be able to handle coasters getting taller and faster than 120 mph and 420 feet.
You don't think it looks tall?

Ride the back seat of Magnum and take a quick glance backward before you reach the top. Then you'll think otherwise.

I figured out why the height didn't sink into me. When we looked at Magnum and especially Millenium, the lifts looked razor thin. It gave off the impression of being much taller. Dragster's triangle base is wide anywhere. Making more like building than thin hair with nothing around you. I don't notice the height until I am on route 2 far away and still it is big.

You saying Dragster launch is about as intense as Wicked Twister? You haven't been on Wicked Twister lately have you?;)
