Not Impressed?

You don't think it looks tall?

Ride the back seat of Magnum and take a quick glance backward before you reach the top. Then you'll think otherwise.

Besides the actual ride itself that is the best part of magnum, it still didn't look that hugiant. and when your on the MFer looking over it still doesn't have that effect on me, the way Magnum did in 1989 being able to se that hill so far away and thinking man that is huge. or seeing that big blue lift climbing into the sky, that was awesome. i am not saying this was a bad ride or is a wuss ride, i just was expecting it to look bigger from the ground. the best perspective of the ride is when you look down on that blue Vekoma Kiddie coaster, and then you realize HOLY CRAP! that was the MFer! that is what impressed me.

I thibk that at some point, coasters stop looking tall. I never did think S:TE looked that tall, even after seeing it in person.

Well after reading this thread I might consider re-planing my vacation this year. I was going to go to CP just for TTD alone, but if you guys were not that overly impressed than maybe I'll go somewhere else. I guess I have never read a post yet that actually compares the ride to some other rides out there. Here are some that I would like for you to compare it to. Kraken, Incredible Hulk, V2, Raging Bull. I know that they are different type of rides bu try your best to compare them. Because I don't want to go all the way out there for TTD and think that it wasn't worth the wait and that the ride went by way too fast. I would appreciate it. :)

You're going to skip nearly 70 rides, a world-class lineup of roller coasters, resort and beach, tremendous live shows, water park, not to mention unbeatable atmosphere, because some people claim that Top Thrill Dragster isn't the end-all, beat-all?

Even though it IS the most INTENSE ride on the planet! TTD may not be the greatest roller coaster ever, but it is defintely the most intense and unique experience I have ever had on a roller coaster. On no other roller coaster have I ever needed to take a 5-minute break before I could continue on with my life!

So, if they said "jump off a cliff" would you do that too?

TTD made me laugh and giggle for 20 minutes straight afterwards. I tried and tried and TRIED to wipe the smile off of my face and stop the laughing that just kept pouring out of me, but I couldn't. Has any rollercoaster or ride for that matter ever made you do that??

Yep. First time I rode MF :D I couldn't stop laughing
I thought it was awsome but not quite what I thought it would be. I think it might have been I didnt actually get in line (I broke my foot so I go to the entrance, then they tell me when to come back and they let me on, which makes you appreciate it less)

It also didnt see that tall, I think it is because people said it is much taller in person.

I think they should add a stall at the top even if it just slows you down a little, and it shouldn't effect the nearly no-capacity it has right now ;) . Apparently 2 days ago it was at 500 ppl/hour

Here's my best Simon Cowell:

"The ride was just ok...I wasn't blown away..."

But seriously though. Luckily we got in line when it was broken down and lots of people got mad and left..our wait was about 2 hours, not too bad. The launch was definitely the best part. Height wasn't even a factor. Yes, the hill did look intimidating when you're sitting there listening to the thing rev, but once it got going, it was over before you could even take a peek around. Would have been better with more to it, like a 300 foot tall second hill perhaps. It sucks that Cedar Point is running out of room to build, this one could have been a lot better. Ill take MForce and Raptor anyday :)

I think the main reason TDD doesn't look big when your standing near it is the size of the supports, and the structure it's self. The support collums are about 1/2 - 2/3 the size of an average man. Those things are just big. Then you place all of those huge supports together and you get a huge tower. That huge tower is spread out over a pretty big area. This gives you the illusion that it's not that big when you compare it to other things. If the supports where thin like the supports on Magnum or Millennium Force you would be able to tell it is 420' tall.

Some people said they wern't impressed with the ride itself. Probably the main reason for this is the hype. They were expecting the most incredable ride experience ever created. The hype got built up more and more, so they were expecting so much more than can be delivered. It's the same thing with any other ride. People come to CP because they heard Magnum or Millennium Force are both some of the best coasters out there, they are so hyped up for them, they ride them, they don't live up to their expectations, they are disapointed.

blue vekoma coaster? i dont think there's a blue vekoma coaster there buddy, unless you mistook Millennium Force for a Vekoma coaster, which, if you did, you should be flogged for. Intamin and Vekoma are two very different companies, Intamin being, of course, the better of the two. Vekoma's only Cedar Point coaster is Woodstock Express.

I'll be the first to admit that I was scared to death to ride Dragster when I got up to CP on Opening Day. I stood under that hill for a few minutes just staring up, pondering the height of the tower. The tower doesn't look 420 feet tall, but it is impressive. I kept telling myself if was the same height as Millie's first hill so that I could work up the courage to ride it. (I'm slowly getting used to Millie's first hill.) I was glad that Dragster's hill doesn't look 420 feet, because as much as I like Millie, that first hill is unnerving to me. (Less so if I avoid sitting on the lake side of the train.) I still ride Millie most trips up to CP. I loved Dragster from the second I started zooming toward that hill. The hill is huge. Impressive? Yes and no. But I certainly agree with Walt (Gemini) and the others. Don't skip Cedar Point because we all don't see the height of the tower in the same way. Dragster won't upset Raptor as my favorite, but it is my 2nd all time favorite coaster.

Awww, bad day? Take a different perspective on things. Try upside down, a barrel roll, a cobra roll or a corkscrew. Life can't be all that bad when your feet are over your head!

I'm starting to think that yellow just isn't the color for Really Big Stuff.

Up here in VF country, we're twirling around on our new Impulse. It's a great ride (and I gotta admit I like the holding brake better than the twist--sorry) but it just doesn't look very big. Of course, there's a 180-foot skytower not far away and we're all used to staring at a hyper and a PT...but the 140-foot hill to WT in the area looks about the same height. Even the up-north hillibillies were saying, "How tall is that thing, 'bout 70 feet? I used to work on grain silos 'bout that high, I tell ya..."

I say repaint it Raptor/VF Wild Thing/Booger Green and you'll scare the life out of everybody.

You saying Dragster launch is about as intense as Wicked Twister? You haven't been on Wicked Twister lately have you?;)

No doubt that Dragster's launch is more intense then Wicked Twister, just not as much as I thought it would be. Given the choice between waiting 2.5 hours for dragster or waiting 10 minutes for WT (as was the case the last time I was at the park), I'll take Wicked Twister every time.

It's not that we are not impressed by TTD, it is for me atleast i don't think it looks like it is 420 ft tall. that is all. I am and probably just about everyone else in here, in fact with out a doubt, impressed by TTD, just it doesn't look like it is as tall as it is. The ride is great, i am at a loss for which coaster is my favorite now. MFer,TTD or Magnum, those are my Top fav rides.

You didn't read it correctly, Then you realize HOLY CRAP! it is MFer, meaning you are so high up in the air it looks tiny! Not that the MFer is a crappy ride, Yellow train Full force is the smoothest train in the park.

And MFer means Millennium Force. and you should chill out and read things a few time before you talking about flogging and preaching. i know my cedar point, i have been going there every season since 1985, so yes i know Intamin and Ve(going into a)koma are totally different coaster companies. Intamin rocks, Vekoma needs to stick to their junior coasters.

Actually, I rather liked Batwing @ SFA. I also thought Kong @ SFMW was fine with a bit of defensive riding; great footchopper visuals from the front seat. Granted, Kong was not Raptor, and I've not been on a B&M flyer yet, so perhaps Batwing will pale in comparison, too.

That said, Woodstock is a fun little ride, even without the kids.

It's not war, famine, or pestilence; it's only downtime.

Vekoma's greatest contribution to the roller coaster world is the flying coaster. i enjoy a spin on X- Flight every now and then. oh and theone001, i think you need to calm down as well. dont get so excited when someone corrects you and they interpret your post wrong (oh, yer saying Millennium Force LOOKS like a Vekoma coaster up there, a ha...) and have to set you straight...

Well i am calm, you didn't correct me, cause well there was no need for correction, you needed to read what i said more carefully.

Back on topic, One thing that did impress me is how small the trains were on the Web Cam photos!

side note: vekoma may have made some good rides, in general i just don't care for their coasters, Some like steel some like wooden, i just don't care for 'em. and Woodstocks Express is awesome! it should be called woodstocks revenge, where do i petion a name change? ;)
