Nostalgia

It seems like people like things that are gone more, but if we lost some other ride, say calypso (one of my all time favorite rides) It would insantly become a favorite.

-The music on Calypso-the ride

-Of course the Schwabinchen, in my familay AKA the dress lady XD

-Meeting someone from the vomit cleanups, then hearing thier stories.

-Being amazed at how primitive Demon Drop looks, riding it, and realizing it's possible the best dropping ride there is. (every single year)

-The Cedar Point Summer Spectacular <3

-Fresh Corndogs on the midway

-Happy friars and Mr. Potato

-The surprising loss of stomach on Corkscrew's drop

-Looking at the smiley face parasail soaring over Lake Erie

-Eating a the midway marketplace, and watching the second "running of the bulls" to leave the park for dinner

-All of the coasters in general. There is no single rollercoaster I truly dislike.

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

The Carosel music BEFORE they started to use that recorded junk...

The Hobo Band on the Midway..

The Frontier Lift at night...

Riding Gemini for the first time and thinking you will hit "The Beam"... And then not hit it...

The view of The Point from the back of the Ferry as you ride back to Sandusky...

The Sound of the train whistle as heard from Battery Park in Sandusky...

CP French Fries - VINEGAR and SALT - MMMMM!!!

The Fountian on the Main Midway before it got the Big Ball....

Riding The Ferry back to Sandusky in windy/stormy weather... It was the Best Last Ride of The Day....

Please remain seated until the ride comes to a complete AND final stop.....

The beer at Red Garter while watching the seasonal show or the Halloweekends show...

And everthing else that has been mentioned above. Oh, and the early mornings and late night enjoying the park going to sleep or waking up.

At Lighthouse Point, of course. ;)

What an awesome set of posts!

I worked at CP the summer of 1987 and met my

wife there, so I'm particularly fond of CP memories!

I think most of my favorites have been covered already - nevertheless:

- Fourth of July Fireworks

- Watching the HUGE traffic jams on the causeway late Friday and Saturday nights from my dorm window

- .25 cent beers at Loui's (Employees & locals!)

- Riding the ferry from CP to Sandusky and back

- Walking through the park in the moring before customers arrived

- Collecting all of the different plastic mugs from the park (late 1980s)

- Losing my car in the parking lot

- Riding the employee bus service to Sandusky mall and shopping with my friends

- Employee 'Christmas in July' party at a fancy restaurant in Sandusky

- Sleeping in my girlfriends (now Wife!) dorm room overnight

- People watching on the midway

- The park at night - neon, flashing lights, french fries, pizza, fireworks, spinning lights - oh man!

- roaming singers and dancers at the park

- Driving back to Cleveland to see my parents for a day and then back to CP for the month.

and most recently:

- Staying at the hotel Breakers with my family and watching TTD from the Breakers parking lot at night and then falling asleep and having dreams about TTD.

- Walking on the beach on a cold June night, wishing I was brave enough to go in the water and watching my kids brave the freezing water

- Ice cream with my family at the ice cream shop attached to breakers

- Slumming it for $200/night in the old part of Breakers - Just like living in the dorms when I was an employee, but a heck of a lot more expensive!

- Coming back to the park after 10 years and seeing all the changes

- Bringing my kids to the place where I went when I was a kid!

The C.P. band back in the 80's! Music was always great, and they were funny too.

I miss the dolphins

-Stryker

-Coco

-Misty

-Breeze

I also miss the roar of the Lions at Jungle Larry's.

-The peace and quiet walk along the the shady beach before the breakers was expanded.

-The peaceful walk along the frontier trail before Snake River falls and Millenium force were added!

Well you guys have covered most of my favorites, but a couple that really stand out are:

Frontier lift at night

Power riding Gemini, it's first year, on a weekday at closing time. There wasn't a line so the Ops let us stay on the train and we went around 3 or 4 times, slapping hands of course.

And more recently, participating in the running of the bulls with my kids for the last 5 years. Our big decision being, the Marina gate for Millie or the Resort gate for TTD. I guess that will be easier this year since TTD doesn't have ERT.

First trip June 23rd

I have been going to the park for almost 27 years..

Things that stick out are (some that have been covered...oh well ).

Gemini was Brand Spanking New...and the Worlds Tallest Fastest wooden coaster ..1978 8 years old..Did King's Island one day and Cedar Point the next..

There was 4 of us that went to CP for one day... I was the driver...18 maybe. We stayed till close after being there from opening....with a 3 1/2 hour drive there and the same back I was awake nearly 20 hrs. I was chewing on ice to stay awake as everyone else slept! The rumble of gravel from the shoulder woke me up about 3 times... That was my last one day trip. I booked hotels and campsites after that. 1988

Going on Blue Streak with my younger Nephew and un-doing the seat beat when it was one lap bar and one belt... Scared him to death..Lap bar had some play in it...He got some air time. 1993 . I think I was 23 ??

Smoking a little on the Sky Ride and having Demon Drop be our last ride at night for a buddy and me..Whooooa. it was dark and intense!! 25 or so.He drove my truck that night to a hotel in Milan.

Waiting 2 1/2 hours for Millinium in 2001. I was 31

2004 August 9... Bringing my 7 year old daughter to the world's best park!!! Magnum scared her!

2005 Opening day Daughter and I hit the park...she is no longer afraid...

August 2005 she reaches the 52" height New rides for her... Whole new Park! I used to look at her and yell "AIR TIME" on certain rides.. , now she does it to me!

The feeling I get when I see the Park from the Causeway!!! The snile my girl had was worth a million bucks!!!!

Current:

people asking her if she has rode this ride before,, and her saying yes 12 time this week-end

The Western Cruise.

Frontier Lift--day or night.

The CP & LE before Mantis and M.F.

The trees.

I too miss striker, coco, misty and breeze.

How about glass blowing on frontier trail.

We were happy when Wave Swinger or Ocean Motion was the only new ride.

Mean Streak the first year.

I miss the eight dollar boat ride. I forgot the name of the boat. They only had the cruise for one or two years. They said that the boat did not pass the coast guard inspection for safety, because of an engine problem. I was told that it would not be worth it to fix the problem.

I was on that boat during the 2001 blackout. It was very odd seeing the park closed during the summer.

Also, I love sitting in the red garter, drinking beer and watching all of the idiots try to sing during karaoke. Than getting drunk enough to be the idiot on the stage, trying to sing an elton john song. I hope they bring that back this year.

Anyone heard anything on karaoke party returning?

Mikey

2008 visits = 38, 2009 = 19, 2010 = 11, 2011 = 14, 2012 = 10, 2013 = 14, 2014 = 14, 2015= 13, 2016 = 11, 2017 = 5, 2018 = 3

Riding into the breakrun on Corkscrew, when the tigers from Jungle Larry were off to your right.

The old lapbars on Blue Streak... I never stood up.

You know, never mind that last one, when the seats had no head rests and it was cheap vinyl padding with the old lapbars on Blue Streak.

The Giant Slide.

Not paying for stuff cause I was 7.

Crying and telling my parents I was not going to ride Magnum on it's opening day. It was too big and steep. They made me ride it :)

Avalanche Run.

The kiss from my girl right before every ride.

My church trips as a Junior.

My first ride on Millenium Force in October of 2000.. It was in someting close to sleet.

Fascination..

Lets see here.

1.The first time i rode my favorite rides. top thrill dragster millenium force and wicked tiwster.

2.The times i have shared with my girlfriend there.

3.The Ice cream and the smoothie type drinks at that ice cream place by raptor.

4.In the october of 2002 when i went and was wondering what they were buiding (now top thrill dragster).

5.The awesome car rides i have had up there. And the music i listened to on those car rides.

6. Night times on Saturdays on hallowekends.

7.Past times with friends thier.

Always having to ride Upper deck on Space SPiral every time Growing up. (Can't do that much anymore)

Riding Monster and the Trabant.

Riding the Giant Wheel in it's formaer glorius location and smelling the Chicken Barbeque the whole time on the ride. Makes me hungary just remembering the smell.

Getting burns on the Giant Slide and playing in Berenstein Bear Country.

Riding Junior Gemini and Super Himilaya while Dad rode the Gemini.

The day I was tall enough to ride Avalanche Run and riding it for the first and only time Uncovered....

Being forced to ride Iron Dragon it's opening year.

The other world at Jungle Larry's

Watching the paddlewheels on the real paddlewheel boats.

Almost falling out of Mine ride, and the guy in the seat behind me had to grab me. I was small and skinny and with the way the lap bars are set up..... Met the hieght requirement though. I still beleive that ride is unsafe for small skinny kids who are tall enough even with a seatbelt on.

Going to the IMAX just to cool off. Going to the aquarium to avoid storms. Space Sprial getting struck by lightening while walking through kiddy kingdom.

I want the dolphins back

Excited when a girl who later became my girlfriend decided to go ride the water rides with just me...... ;) hehe that was a very good day.

Working there the day of the great blackout of 2003. NO power, no phones, no communication, not knowing what was going on. The park closing long before dark...

The memory that sticks out the most for me. Is always driving up the chaussee and watching the rocks go by, seeing the lake and then looking straight ahead waiting for SPace Siral to pop out over the trees. *** Edited 4/16/2006 11:07:21 PM UTC by MonsterMan***

This has been fun to read and made me think of a few of my own.

-watching people get stuck at the top of every new ride (Magnum, Raptor, Mantis, Mean Streak, Millennium Force) and having to walk down.

-That awful feeling I got in my gut when I got stuck at the top of the Millennium Force.....TWICE.......in a ROW. (they let us get back on without having to wait in line again after a test run.

-Riding Paddlewheel Excursions so many times that I can still go on it and answer all of the jokes. (It wooden hurt, "nice knawing ya", "fly paper", and my personal favorite, "The little squirt in the middle")

-Having to ride Demon Drop for the first time so I could earn a "Coaster Checklist T-shirt".

-that first time on Demon Drop when I couldn't figure out why my parents counted to three at the top of the ride before we fell.

-Riding the Corkscrew with my Aunt and brother eight times in a row because there was no line. We just kept getting on, riding, getting off, and getting back in line. I'd do the same thing a few years later with my brother the opening year of Snake River Falls because the weather wasn't too hot

-Riding Millennium Force in the front car at night with my girlfriend. It was like falling into nothing.

-Getting choked up watching the finale on the laser show (God Bless the USA) every year. I went back this past summer after a five year absence and still teared up. Just something about that song.

-Going on White Water landing with my family and having my Mom hide her head under my shirt so she wouldn't get hit with that little waterfall that used to be at the entrance to one of the rooms before the big hill.

-Taking a road trip there with my co-workers and teaching them the coin trick on Demon Drop.

-Being terrified as an eight year old that the Sky Ride wouldn't hold. I rode it with my Dad and two ladys. I held onto the pole in the middle of the cart the whole time. Finally my Dad said, "You do realize that if this car falls, the pole is coming with it?". That still makes me laugh.

-Watching the laser show on the last night while eating an elephant ear.

-I cried when I realized looking at the 1990 brochure when I realized that my favorite ride The Avalanche Run had been turned into Disaster Transport. I was 9 at the time. Kinda silly now.

-Thinking it was a great idea to drag the family on Calypso right after a gut-buster breakfast at the Silver Dollar Cafe.

-Hating riding The Pirate Ride with my parents sitting behind me. They'd keep scaring me and my brother throughout the ride.

-Riding the front car of Blue Streak with my dad and having the lap bar (back in the days where it was one lapbar and seatbelts) fly up on the way down the first hill. We both had our hands up in the air and tried to fight gravity to put them down to lock the bar.

-Freaking out on the Giant Wheel when at the top, my Dad would open the doors. Then a few years later, gathering up the courage to do it myself.

-when I was younger, I used to be afraid of the totem pole by between Jungle Larry's and Magnum XL 200. I don't even know if it's still there anymore.

-Using the Wave Swinger as a spin-cycle after going on Thunder Canyon/Snake River Falls.

-I was disappointed this past summer when I went on Gemini and I think two people slapped hands on the ride. One of my favorite traditions and hardly anyone does it anymore.

I think that about wraps it up. A lot of great memories, and I'm sure I forgot more than I remembered.

I really liked the parking lot markers that were the different coasters. Now we just have a letter and a number to figure out where we parked.

Tell me bambinowwf, what is this coin trick. It sounds illegal. I know it's illegal to drop things off of Drop Zone at Kings Island, and it's an Ohio law so I'm assuming it applys to Demon Drop... :|
Anyway what is it, it also sounds funny! :)

(yes I searched for it)

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

The coin trick is just a way to show the weightlessness you experience when you fall.

All you do is put a coin on your knee at the top of the ride. When you fall, the coin will float until you land on the bottom part of the ride. If you're quick enough, you can catch the coin before it lands behind the cart. If not, it'll give the ride operators a tip for a well-done ride.

Hope that clears things up.
