Nostalgia

Since it's almost nostalgia to find my last post (I tend to disappear during football season, but haven't found time to make my way back until now), I found this list of "favorite things" at CP that I posted elsewhere about eight years ago. Some are dated, some are still around. All inspire great memories. Feel free to add your own...

- The first sight of the park from coming in from the causeway on every
visit.

- Watching the kids really enjoying the pool at the Breakers while I
anxiously await 5:00, when our starlight passes will kick into gear on
Day 1.

- Chicken and biscuits at Auntie Em's on the Frontier Trail.

- Riding the winning horse at Cedar Downs.

- An early morning walk
on the beach outside the Breakers.

- The old Giant Slide.

- Seeing all the change that folks lose on the Demon Drop.

- The general feeling of security in letting the kids leave our room in
the Breakers to go to Grandma's room (in another wing) all by
themselves.

- People who actually reach out to touch hands on the Gemini... mostly
Kennywood alumni, I would guess <g>.

- Chocolate covered strawberries from the candy shop on the trail.

- The time I sent mom up to the bridge on White Water Landing "to get a
good picture of the boat coming down"! LOL

- Letting my daughter have the "driver's seat" on Wildcat.

- Breakfast at the Silver Dollar Cafe.

- The old pinball machines in the Arcade.

- The slide at the end of the funhouse.

- A cold beer at Lusty Lil's on a hot afternoon.

- The view of the park from the top of the space spiral.

- Candle-dipping.

- Zoom Flume at Soak City.

- The view from the main midway of the Giant Wheel looming over the
train station (before the laser show screen was installed).

- The Midway Market.

- Escaping all the waterfalls on Thunder Canyon (then pressing your luck
and trying it again).

- The old double ferris wheel.

- The salt water taffy stand near the Space Spiral where you could watch
the taffy being pulled.

- A nighttime ride on the Frontier Lift (probably my all-time favorite
non-coaster thing to do).

I'm sure there are lots more, but this was a spur-of-the-moment
top-of-my-head list. Feel free to add your own here.

-(for the employees) a walk through a completely empty park

-The drive down the causeway (I know you said that one, but it's good enough to be repeated)

-WATCHING the running of the bulls from inside the Sky Ride station

I'm going to come up with a lot more :-).

Counting the number of shoes on the ground of Raptor with my Grandson.

And Finally, Spending time with your loved ones at the greatest place on earth.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

^^ The Friction Burns....I forgot about those...That brings back the days...after the first time we rode those my wife always packed a new box of Band-Aids!

This seems to be lost more and more each season.

my own...

- That feeling of anticipation before the first ride of the season.

- My second trip to the Point. I don't think I rode many rides that time, but I spent the entire day doing stuff with my Dad.

- Whipping through the trees on Iron Dragon.

- The Aquarium.

Goodbye MrScott

John

The best Memory will always be on top of the Big Wheel and looking down at the park with the person I love. Call me a romantic, but that is always the best memory.

The most recent would be last year when I finally got the guts to ride the Millennium. The feeling of facing my fears, sitting and going up the first hill, the final feeling at the end when we got off and I turned around and looked back at the ride and thought "Wow! I just rode that and It was so much fun!!"

Cedar Point 4-ever

The sweet smell of Lake Erie walking along the beach.

Breakfast at the Swiss Chalet BEFORE it was called the Swiss Chalet.

The smell of steaks cooking at the Marina Steak House while walking along the docks.

My first ride on the Cedar Creek Mine Ride.

Watching construction of Shoot The Rapids during May, and finally getting a ride.

A tour of the CP&LE RR engine house by the kind gentleman who ran the place.

Buying French Waffels at the end of the night to take back to the Breakers.

Getting a small, firmly inflated raft from the shack on the beach (60's and 70's), and using it to surf in while laying on the raft.

Fascination.

Riding the Frontier Lift.

Staying in the old C Section of Hotel Breakers.

The totem pole by the Sky Ride station.

Watching Gemini construction and being amazed by the size of the structure.

Train robbers.

All the bands on opening day in the 60's.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

- First Cedar Point trip

- Magnum as my first coaster; I was instantly hooked

- Taking the train

- Continuously vowing not to ride Mean Streak ever again, but always giving it another chance and regretting it

I dont know if this happens to anyone else, but apprantly my eyes are sensitive to wind, so whemever I ride a coaster, I get streaks of "tears"...

Especially, for some unexplainable reason, on Raptor.

Continuously vowing not to ride Mean Streak ever again, but always giving it another chance and regretting it

That will be me on opening day.

- Front seat on TTD for the first time in a season

- The big Slide...I loved it!

- The "air" guns in Frontier town and making the animations come to life!

- Eating my first "gourmet pretzel" of the season

- Fries + Vinegar + Salt = Heaven

- Slamming through the doors on the Pirate Ride

-

And the number one nostalgic moment of all time?

-Watching my sister throw up...on herself...onthe rotor.

Some of my memories of the park

Seeing the Giant wheel from town when it was new. My first visit

The Giant Wheel when it had a huge ine at all times.

Riding the double ferris wheel before I went home

When the Gemini ruled the world and I basically spent the whole time near that ride.

The Chicken Patio

The Frontier Lift

The original Western Cruise

The dolphins

Jungle Larry's

The Pirate Ride

Cedar Point gifts in the mall

In the old days waiting for the announcement of a new ride. In the pre internet era it was harder to know ahead of time what was coming.

My first coastermania

Fascination and the old lights on the games

Seeing what the floral display will be for the year

the old Cleveland Road sign.

The national publicity Magnum got when it opened

Finally getting a new looping coaster after 18 years.

Buying the history books and learning about some of the pre-1972 rides.

The trams in the parking lot.

The Schwabinchen and the first site of Olga.

The Upside Down funhouse

The Disaster Transport as it was originally intended to be.

Latenight meals at the Coffee Shop.

The penguins.

The IMAX movies

The views from the boathouse

Taking the ferry to downtown.

Blue Streak with only lapbars.

Buying a Magnum shirt and wearing it everywhere.

Going to the park with relatives that have passed on such as my dad, aunt Rachael, aunt Juanita and others.

Getting my mom on the mine ride

I could go on and on.

Kevinj's avatar

Shame on me for not remembering Jungle Larry. Does CP have any type of tribute at the park to Larry? Some of my earliest memories of the park...

Driving down the Causway

Riding the Raptor

Sitting and watching the Dragster or Wicked Twister

Eating chicken strips at the Dragon's Inn

People watching

The Frontier Trail!!!

Millennium Force in the morning for ert and seeing the empty park from the top.
