No more Cotten Candy for 25 cents!

I could not believe they got rid of 25 cents for cotten candy. It was the only snack in the park I felt I didn't have to bend over to get. Was it only for last season they were having cotten candy that cheap? Now it cost $2.95

Yes, it was just for last season. It will no longer be at any of the Cedar Fair Parks.

$2.95...wow, what a difference! We sure took advantage of the 25 cents thing last year...

No more cotton candy for a quarter, in exchange for a nice new roller coaster. Hmmm.

Next complaint, please.

It's not really a complaint so much as a statement. I'll probably still buy some, but not as much ;)

But there's also a big difference in how much cotton candy you get.

My point was that the park has been open for exactly two operating days, and threads for the sole purpose of complaining are already being made. It dwindled (less carts) as the year went on last year, and was a nice promotion to make everyone feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Meanwhile, they have installed a 20 million dollar coaster, added a couple new eateries, a few mor significant improvements, and yet someone's lasting reaction is how ungodly evil it is of them to take away 25 cent cotton candy.

Just think if Holiday World did away with free soft drinks throughout the park?

The only overreaction I see in this thread is your's Kevinj.

As for the 25 cent cotton candy, it was okay I guess. Each stick didn't have much cotton candy. It looks bigger than it really is because it was quite fluffy. Bags of cotton candy contain much more because it's packed down more. There wasn't much more value in it anyways. For the same price, you get about the same cotton candy if you compare the two for weight.

It was also ironic because it wasn't quite 25 cents laste year. Sure 1 would cost 25 cents because of rounding. If you get 2, the price was 49 cents.

I did not know that Walt, thanks! That's good to know.

I think it's a real kick in the nuts to the guests. It says, "We made a big deal out of this last year, but we're going to go back to sticking it to you."

I've been in the park one day and already I'm incredibly dissatisfied with the way that the foods department is rolling this year.

I pulled one double-take on Sunday, price-wise.

The Ben&Jerry's ice cream is good. Really good. But, you're going to fork over $5+ for a small scoop on a cone. I don't recall the Tofts cones in that location being over $4 last year, but I suppose I could be wrong.

On the plus side of the ledger, I saw a perch sandwich in a new location (though now I can't for the life of me recall where.) Maybe this year I'll be able to try one! ;)

Watch how much they charge you for a filled pretzel back by the Magnum, The sign said 4.19, but the registers were both ringing up 4.69, then with tax it was 5.00. I complained about it, and they did give me the 4.19 plus tax price, but they said they would change the sign over right away, but never did when I looked later in the day. Either the sign is wrong, or the registers are programmed wrong. Watch out.

Me? Overreact? No..... ;)

The perch is quite tasty BN, at least it was last season. A very nice addition.

Now let me preface this by saying that in my relative youth, I am not yet well traveled in terms of amusement parks, so I do not have a lot of experience with pricing on food.

That said, I have never had a problem with their food prices at all. On a typical visit we'll have a beer (6.50 is pretty average to pay at a concert or stadium, so no biggie there) and a couple gourmet pretzels (about 4.00 i think). Not too outrageous.

I suppose if we sat down to "meals" I would notice it more.

That said, I dont consider "taking away" cotton candy for a quarter as "sticking it to me" or other guests. That seems to implie some sort of evil sinister plan to lure families into a cotton candy addiction only to rip their little hearts out by suddenly exploding prices. It was a wonderful little touch, sure, and I took advantage of it...once.

I guess my question would be about other parks, such as Disney, Islands of Adventure, Six Flags, etc....does it seem that Cedar Fair has high prices by comparison?

Cedar Point food prices are high, but are very comparable to other parks. From what I've heard Six Flags prices are even higher.

In general I think the quality of the food has gone up a bit. I find the new burgers very tasty, and I think I'll enjoy the new Chick-Fil-A and Panda Express locations.

I don't have much to complain about, just be prepared to pay much more than at your local fast food place in your neighborhood.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I don't necessarily mind paying a little bit higher prices, but the quality of the food needs to be there.

I have a season pass to Hersheypark, we get 15% all food items/drinks. I can get away with 2 slices of good pizza and a soda for $6 something at Hershey and its good. The same meal, but crappy would run probably in the range of $10+ at SFGA.

Cedar Point does rides the best, the food has always been lacking and a little pricey. 25 cent promotion was a great idea and would probably make them more money to raise it to $1.

$2.70 jump in price from 25 cents is frightening. Maybe I have been spoiled with amusement park food, growing up near DelGrosso's park and moving to Hershey recently...

I guess that's pretty much how I see it as well Pete. I expect high prices at CP. Hence, we always eat a big breakfast that day, and just get a few snacks here and there, and a meal outside the park later.

EDIT: it seems that some are assuming they raised the price of cotton candy from 25 cents to 2.79....this is not the case. The 25 cent cotton candy was very tiny...there was always a larger option in the shops.

I don't mind paying higher prices either, as I expect it as being a part of what amusement parks are. That said, the food better not suck, and for years it has sucked at Cedar Point. I'm now to the point where I spend three times as much at Universal in a year than I do at Cedar Point, in only a fraction of the visits. Why do you suppose that is? In part, it's because the food is terrible. Last year I can count on one hand the number of times I bought food somewhere other than Friday's or Famous Dave's.

And the training at the non-franchise places is clearly not even in the area code of being adequate. Those poor kids had no idea what hit them Saturday.
