I am planning a trip up to the point in the fall, and would like to get the ball rolling on hotel reservations.
I have looked at several of the options that CP has, but I know that there has to be other options.
Where have you stayed in the past? Did you like it? Were the rates reasonable?
What would you recommend?
I personally would recommend staying right there at a Cedar Point hotel. Sure it will cost you a bit more, but at the beginning or at the end of your day, you don't have travel to get to where you want to go.
Last July we stayed at Hotel breakers for 3 days, and at the end of our stay, we felt we didn't stay long enough. This year we're staying at Hotels breakers again for a week. Now that Luminosity is at the end of the day, we can enjoy the entire show, and take our time walking back to the hotel.
Good luck and hope this helps.
Breakers is just OK. Honestly, I don't think there are any nice hotels in Sandusky. I suspect it's hard to run a 4-diamond hotel as a seasonal business, unfortunately.

I tend to stick to the Hilton family and we've had a couple of nice stays at the Hampton Inn on Rt. 250. It's a solid 3-diamond hotel.
Thanks all.
I don't need a 4-seasons or anything... I just don't want to get murdered... Although, I AM coming for Halloweekends.
I will look into the Hampton Inn and Breakers.
I am wondering if it will be cheaper to stay at Breakers or Breakers Express and get the ticket deal through them instead of booking a hotel and getting tickets separately.
And if I am going Breakers Express, I may as well go Breakers for the convenience of staying on-site.
Decisions, Decisions!
The Fairfield Inn Sandusky is also really nice. I like Hampton too, but the Fairfield has better rooms. Best Western Plus (across the street from both hotels), is also okay.
If paying a premium for location isn't an issue for you, Breakers is almost certainly your best choice. Especially during Halloweekends, when traffic getting into and out of the park can be crazy at times.

Plus staying on site gives you early entry. Book early though because they will probably sell out.

The South Shore Inn is nice, close and resasonable. I was very happy staying there.
The Maples is good too, but it's a motel and bit dated, but clean. The rates are good. I like it. A slice of Americana.
Those hotels are nice (I love the Maples!) but I have a feeling that nice = upscale in this case. There aren't many, if any, of those kinds of hotels in Sandusky.

Hi Ralph... nice doesn't mean upscale...
Nice just means clean and safe.
My standards are pretty low :-)
If clean and safe is all you're looking for, then I certainly recommend the Maples. It's a little bit dated, but very clean. The mother and son who own the place are the nicest people ever.

sweet! Thank you so much Ralph... I will look them up.
I like supporting locally-owned businesses.
(That's why I eat at the Jolly Donut in Sandusky... if you have never been there, I recommend it!)
Here's the Maples website with a little more info. And while you're supporting local businesses, don't forget about Chet and Matt's Pizza!

There is an suites hotel near the junction of 250 and 2 I forget who owns it but I was there their shortly after it opened and found it extremely nice! I have stayed in many of the hotels over the years from the Value Inn (old but getting better yet lacks ALOT) to the hotel I just mentioned (the best non-resort hotel in my opinion) Breakers tower is very nice so is its east wing but my personal favorite resort is Sandcastle. Also I find Sandusky, Huron, Port Clinton, and basically that entire area just a wonderful area to be. I NEVER have a bad time when I am there. I was just there from the 24th to the 26th just to enjoy being in the area before it was completely flooded with tourists.
It wouldn't be very Negligent of me to spell my name correctly.
What is the best way to contact the Maples? In the last week I've tried contacting them on their website and I've called. I still have not been able to reach anyone. We are hoping to stay Monday and Tuesday next week. I'd really like to stay on point but would like something more affordable (but close). Anyone have any other suggestions if I can't get the Maples?
Knights Inn on Cleveland Road is ok. Dated but really close by, and at the end of the day that makes a difference when you're tired out. They have a nice continental breakfast in the outdoor gazebo. The Cedar Point Causeway is less than 5 minutes from this hotel.

For Monday and Tuesday night next week without tickets added to the room...breakers Bon air (updated this year) 2 double beds for 176.18 total, with promotional code RETURN

I'm not sure when exactly Maples opens for the season. I would expect that they'd be taking reservations by now, but perhaps the aren't opening until later? I'd say keep calling.
