Next Defunct Attractions

I have stated for a while that a small kid coaster (like the Wildcat) could go in where the stadium was. That kind of ride would be appropriate for that area since the kids area is nearby, and CP wouldn't have to sacrifice Wicked Twister.

Actually, back in the day wasn't Wildcat at that very location or at least close to it? I seem to remember it by where the Rotor & Funhouse were.

You are correct. That's where Wildcat was originally placed, before it was relocated within the park in '79.

Actually it was replaced in '79. It was a big year...
Wildcat moved to Valleyfair!
Jumbo Jet went away
Oceana was constructed
(new) Wildcat replaced Jumbo Jet

It would be REALLY cool to hop in a time machine and visit Cedar Point in the 60s and 70s. I was born in '92, so despite how cool CP's been in my lifetime, it would be great to walk in the park before then.

But as I was saying, a small coaster like Wildcat is what I'd like to see replace the stadium. That's what I would put there if I was calling the shots.

Add me to the list who believe that the road is very scenic and an enjoyable ride, but this has to be one of the most ridiculous justifications for using the Chaussee that I have read.

Why so? Why drive miles out of my way to end up at the exact same place?

If you're coming from east though, I really don't think the Causeway is all that quicker. I never took it of course but if it is quicker, 1-3 minutes I'd think? Now coming from south and west, yeah I see Causeway totally being quicker.

We come from the East, and take both routes on different visits depending on if our girls want to ride up the Causeway or see the Willow trees and houses. You know what the net difference is? Next to nothing.

From the East one takes Route 6 to Rye Beach Road, and then it's a choose your own adventure:

Path 1: Cedar Point Road

Path 2: Continue on Route 6 to Cedar Point Drive (the causeway)

No difference. In fact, just for fun I googled both paths right now, and for Cedar Point Road it says 2 hours, 2 minutes....and for the Causeway it says 2 hours, 1 minute.

Google maps aside, I can tell you from years of experience from the East, it's exactly the same, aside from unforseen circumstances on either path. Now for some reason if you take 2 to 250 instead of getting off at the Rye Beach Road exit, yea, you might add about 5 minutes, but that's about it.

It's also the exact same mileage.

So while it may seem out of the way, it's actually not. At all. Just different scenery.

Another ride I'm concerned about is Thunder Canyon.

If there had to be one water ride to keep in the park, it would be this one since everyone can ride it. I always used to prefer this ride as a kid because there's no big hill on it. Hopefully, Thunder Canyon will stay, but I do worry about it.

Yes, Thunder Canyon could also be a possibility- another one I would miss. Over the years, though, the ones I miss the most are probably Earthquake and the Up-Side Down Funhouse.

I could see Frontier Town getting refurbished over time, even after Steel Vengeance.

Because the Causeway is not even remotely "miles out of [your] way".

^^ I would venture a guess that, at least in the near future, you have little to worry about.

Dinosaurs Alive is out the door after next year; there's a nice little plot of land to play with. The Shoot the Rapids area is still waiting to be redeveloped, and now the area in and around the stadium looks like it is up next for a face-lift. My hope is that this includes Kiddy Kingdom (not the removal of the rides, per se, but rather a re-imagining of the area) and, dare we dream, a little love to the coliseum.

That's a lot of land to mess with that has little to no impact on any existing rides.

If you're looking beyond the next couple seasons...well...fish in a barrel.

Perhaps I overexaggerated ... But still, if I'm coming from the east, why not take the most direct route to the park?

I've always felt more comfortable taking Cedar Point Rd.

However, the difference in driving distance is less than a half-mile. (Measured from Rt6 to the Marina gate)

If you're on the causeway and you find yourself in traffic backed up for an hour getting into the park you're pretty much stuck in it. On the chausee if you encounter a huge back up you can just turn around and leave. There's no point of no return. You have the option to remove yourself from the situation at any time.

Causeway Tip #24- Always stay in the far left lane, in case you need to turn around during heavy traffic congestion.

I think the traffic backup justification is an amusingly far reach.

Wildcat was located where the Gatekeeper station/lift is now, through the 1984 season. It was painted with a new color scheme and relocated between Iron Dragon and Cedars to make room for Avalanche Run in 1985.
