My round trip gas usage is approaching the parking cost. :(

My Round Trip gas usage is going to cost me about how much it costs to park for a Lions game.

Add about $.50 more per gallon and you have the usual cost boat fuel. There will be a lot of time sitting at the dock this season.

I could pay for 6 cars to park before it matches my round-trip gas costs. :(

EDIT: Does Ohio charge gas tax on a per-dollar basis, like Michigan does?

Brandon

At at least 7 hours round trip (approx. 3 1/2 each way) for me, this is really going to hit hard when it's time to go to CP.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

My Ford E-350 has horrible gas mileage. With gas hitting three dollars again, it cost over $100 too fill it up all the way. I also live three hours away from Cedar Point.

What is the E-350? Excursion?

I'm actually curious as to how many people are inside that beast during your "excursions" to CP. If its less than 8, buy a minivan. 99% of the people with vehicles like that never use them for anything that would require such a vehicle, and they're a big reason for such high gas costs. But, lets not go there... :)

i live about 8.5 hours away, gas prices were the sole reason i only made 3 trips last year instead of the 4 i made the few years before that. this year im only planning on going to cp once :( maybe if things settle down by the fall ill get to come for halloweekends too, but i doubt it...

Michigan taxes are by the gallon. So, no matter how much the price goes up, the taxes will always be 23 cents (or whatever it is) per gallon.

Goodbye MrScott

John

I'd still make the trip to CP if gas was $10 a gallon.

A day at CP is better than a day at work. No matter the cost.

I see. After looking into it some more, Michigan's gas tax breakdown looks like this:

  • $0.18.3 = Federal Tax
  • $0.19.0 = State Excise Tax
  • 6% = State Sales Tax (applied after Federal Tax, before State Excise Tax)

So, in Michigan we are charged a tax on a tax. Plus, that tax isn't applied toward road use, but is instead used for the general fund.

Also, does Ohio still pay no state sales tax on gas?

Brandon

Since I got downsized by Johnson Controls last week, I don't have to worry about work. Yet.

I'll worry about that when I get back from the Point.

You were downsized? Meaning your company was downsized, or the company you work for was downsized?

Michigan sucks right about now in the auto sector, eh? We're only on 40's this summer, whereas last summer we were on 55's.

Brandon

My job was eliminated. I've been on the bubble for 4 years, and did not survive the latest round of cuts.

Their loss, not mine.

Sorry to hear that. In fact, I've been sorry to hear that all over the area for the last year or so.

Brandon

Don't be sorry, for me anyway. I had had enough. That company....well, nevermind. This is not the place.

PS: My severance was over $8,000, so I was happy to walk away.
