New Food for 2004

While Cedar Point is very secretive when it comes to rides they may be planning on adding, when it comes to food, it looks like the silvertags are a little more forthcoming.

I ran into Bob Gordon (I think that is his name), head chef at the Point! yesterday, and was able to have a breif conversation with him regarding food choices in 2004.

Rumor has it that there will be new options in 2004, and Mr. Gordon did say they were exploring new ideas. He even talked about the possibility of having doughnots made on point next year.

The main thing I talked to him about though, was trying to convince the park to serve custard from East Coast Original Frozen Custard. As many people on GTTP know, not all the food items at the Point are anything special, aside from the few signature items we have all heard about. I think this includes the ice cream and custard.

While the park's custard is decent, I feel the world's best amusement park should at least have the world's best custard. Mr. Gordon said he would get East Coast in for tasting, (or something like that), and I hope, for multiple reasons, the park switches.

Anyway, I think the park is making positive moves in other areas of the park, and I hope that the new ideas for next year help make eating on point better than it is now! Now if we could only get that famous Knott's fried chicken I have heard so much about...

On the subject of Knott's, I was pleased to see that Breakwater Cafe serving boysenberry syrup this past weekend, though the Coffee Shop still had plain old fake maple.

Related tip: the line to get in to the Coffee Shop was horrendous on Saturday morning, but Breakwater (with the boysenberry bonus) was a walk-in.

Bah, custard is about the last thing they need to worry about. Nasty.

Bring back the freakin' chicken barbecue that used to be on the Millennium Force site!

What time does the water show start?

Jeff,

Have you tried East Coast Original Frozen Custard?

If not, I suggest it. It might make you see things in a new light. (I even think they opened up a franchise in your area!)

I do have alterior (sp?) motives for suggesting the custard though, which I have been very open about.

Oh, and on an only somewhat related topic, I think you were right about at least some of the pizza. I had a slice from Pizza Patio the other day, and it looked and tasted like it came out of a microwave.

Good thing I rarely eat pizza on point!

I think all custard sucks. It just isn't something I like. I don't even like the word.

This year made me realize that the only really above average food at CP is the fries, and that ain't saying much. They're certainly no Busch Gardens or Universal/IOA.

The fries are good most of the time, but the one's I got 2 Sundays ago were not even close to edible. Could have had something to do with the less than room temperature nacho cheese on them however...

He even talked about the possibility of having doughnots made on point next year.

I heard there may be a Krispy Kreme in CP's future. Let's just hope they open it off-point. It would be a great year-round revenue generator. And I would be able to be able to feed my KK addiction all year long!

Cheese on a stick is way different then motzerella sticks..

it is literally a brick of cheese, or close to, dipped in batter, and fried, I prefer to call it heart attack-on-a-stick...

Werewolf Canyon: it's a lot like shopping for a christmas tree. Only, with werewolves.

I know what new food will be at cp next year but I'm not telling. :)

What kind of batter is it on cheese on a stick by the way? I have wanted to try making it myself in the offseason and I know it is not corn batter, but what is it?

I think something like that would be a good fit at Cedar Point.

Anyone remember when Los Gatos was actually a donut shop? They made fresh cake donuts that were absolutely wonderful.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I cannot believe that a major park on the shores of Lake Erie does not offer fresh Lake Erie perch. It is almost criminal. Instead of selling average or below average get-it-anywhere type of fare, they should be concentrating on regional specialties to fill in the blanks between the national brands they are using.

And oh yeah, Krispy Kreme donuts are so over-rated it isn't funny. Fresh, hot, made-on-location donuts would be a much better item. But, they blew the Coffelt's Taffy thing, and the fudge just isn't what it used to be, so imported Krispy Kreme donuts wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Cedar Point needs to move back to in-house prep & on-site finish of good quality food products. Use signature items that people will come back for, time after time, and maintain the quality level so people will remember them.

I will say, however, that the turkey legs are a good idea. But I'm with Jeff: Bring back the Chicken BBQ!

Doesn't the Bay Harbor Inn offer Lake Erie perch?

Tank brings up some great points. It's a shame they don't pull taffy on site.

Raptor0137 - yes, you can get perch at some of the restaurants, but what is needed is a place in the park that offers some type of basic perch sandwich.

Dude, Jeff... the Chicken that was on the MF site was absolutely wonderful! and everytime you walked by that area of the park you could not help to stop and buy some...just from the smell!

I, too, cannot believe they did not just re-locate that chicken shack. We had lunch there pretty much every day we were at CP, plus the servings were large enough for two to split if they weren't that hungry. My wife's from the South, and she knows BBQ, and even she gave that place the thumbs up ...
