Enough with the chain ice cream stores, Cold Stone and Ben & Jerry's are equally mediocre. Toft's is really good ice cream and I'm glad it is coming back.
The new ice cream parlor will take some getting used to, the old building was a fixture at CP since the 60's. I'm sure what they are putting up will be nice, maybe blend in with Donut Time a little better.

Im not sure which coldstone you have gone to jeff...but the ones ive been to have never given me "runny" ice cream.its seems as though a lot of you people complain when it comes to cedar point not doing the right things. but in reality, wouldn't a coldstone be a bit more effective then some local Sandusky ice cream parlor? not everyone that goes to cedar point is from Sandusky, or Ohio for that matter. if you were from out of state, say somewhere like Rhode Island, like me. and i saw a tofts id just keep on walking buy. but if there was a coldstone i guarantee ill walk in and get something.
I've been to enough Cold Stones to know I think they suck. I don't care if you agree with me.
The franchise thing has yielded great results for them on some things, like Chic-fil-A (which is also barely passable for food). But you know, if Knott's can be known for their chicken and Kennywood can be known for their fries, I believe there is potential make your foods, even if they're local, stand out.

Not always.
Way back when I was just your normal park patron visiting a couple times a year, it only took me a few trips to Sandusky to find out that Toft’s was a local dairy company that had amazing ice cream. After that, a trip to the ice cream parlor out on Venice Road was a must every time we went to Cedar Point. Now a few years ago when Cold Stone was installed, I had never heard of them before. Tried them a few times and I would much rather have Toft’s. So had that Cold Stone been installed at Cedar Point, my reaction probably would have been “They should have put in Toft’s”. Keep in mind that I was not a local. I lived far enough away that I was no different then someone coming from another state, even though I lived in Ohio.
Every time we go "home" we don't miss a trip to Toft's. In fact, on our last trip we braved some pretty cold temperatures to head out there. Granted, we sat in the parlor with our winter coats on but boy did we enjoy that ice cream!
I could live on Ballreich's Chips and Toft's Ice Cream. Of course, I would be the size of a house. But, I do believe I would be enjoying life.
Oh, I guess I could throw in some Trader Jack's subs once in a while for the "healthy" alternative.

I would gladly welcome Toft's. Cold stone is less than mediocre, there's like three of them in one shopping center here, and they're all bad! Baskin Robbins is alright, but do something local like Toft's. :)
TedFuzz. No longer manually signing posts. Too bad. =(

^^Ballreich's? Nah, give me a bag of Jones chips (preferably the burnt ones) and then I'd be happy. :)
That's something I may have to do this summer, skip back down to Mansfield to grab myself some burnt chips every now and then. Actually...I wouldn't mind seeing the park offer those small bags of Jones. After all, it is kind of "local" (hey, Mansfield is close enough).

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
i think a lot of you are misunderstanding my point, it seems a lot of you are locals who know the Sandusky area well. you also know the local restaurants and stores. but you need to look at it from a tourists point of view. without tourists you have no cedar point, with out cedar point...Sandusky would be just an average town.
You don't see Disney putting in franchises either, with two CrapDonald's limited menu locations I can think of being exceptions. From what I understand, many of the restaurants in Epcot are actually concessionaires on long-term leases. They aren't local, but they're far from being franchises.

I'm not familiar with either one of those myself. Out here the best local ice cream is Calder's (which is located in Monroe, MI). They have 2 stores, the dairy farm in Monroe and a regular ice cream store in Lincoln Park. I haven't had that ice cream in a long time, but it's the best I've had by far.
What about Hershey's Ice Cream or Perry's Ice Cream? There both very good.
I'll be Coasting for Kids on June 9th
