Ok I gotcha now. I didn't know Lance had a press packet, I thought an employee told him. I guess it doesn't matter now though.
Let's Get Weird.
No disrespect to Jeff and Walt but I don't understand why letting anyone other than CP release its own project. I mean why not post it on your own website and than allow others to follow suit a day after?

Jeff, is there a good reason, from your perspective, that they would be withholding it?
We talked about this on a recent CoasterBuzz Podcast, and honestly, I have no idea what the motivation is. I think this practice is mostly rooted in tradition to some degree, but obviously you want to get all of the details right too, before you announce. I mean, look at how much "uproar" there was over the theme elements cut from Maverick. That said, I think eventually we'll see someone develop and open a ride with total transparency, start to finish.
I have not done any contract work for the park around this attraction. I'm not in any official loop there this time around, and I haven't asked anyone there to give me the off-the-record scoop. This time, it's just pretty well known in industry circles. Usually, everyone knows what everyone else is doing, they just don't talk about it publicly. Out of respect for those relationships, I'm not going to be the guy to start blabbing about it here.

I hope to know soon! It will be cool to watch it be built!!!
Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs
Well, we all know they can't announce anything until they get a webcam pointed in that direction, right? ;)

The press packets are handed out in advance so that news outlets can have their stories ready to run when the park makes its announcement. They are handed out with the expectation that nothing will be said until that official date. There is risk involved with that, but news outlets also know that if they leak something, the odds of them getting a packet in the future (from anywhere) go down significantly.

Jugga, thanks and I do understand that part of it. I guess after you put it that way I just wonder how some media( such as another website we won't name) would have creditials enough to be able to get a packet. With CP being as secretive as possible on projects I would think they would knit and pick who they want to have an official release.
so from the sounds of it, the new attraction is not a coaster ? if so does that mean CP doesnt care about the coaster capital of the world title anymore? I thought that was a big marketing thing for them. also from 2000 to 2007 CP got 6 new thrill rides , 4 coasters 2 flats, are they really going to go 3 years without something major?and why all that land for a family/water/dark ride when that space has so much more potencial
T - error in judgement. It happens. Someone probably convinced management that using other websites to spread the word was as good as their own and gave them a list of "news" sites that should get the info. They chose poorly.
Noob - the coaster wars are over. And with the economy down, build it and they will come doesn't work anymore either.

I'd say it was an error! I guess with all this talk and speculation, if it were me I would at least put a release date out to get people even more excited.
I feel that some how the isalnd clearing has something to do with the new project and also to help on the Halloweekends attraction.
gotcha new attraction for 2010 cheaper tickets cheaper drinks and cheaper food and some cheaper attraction like a flat or flume , i just hoe CP doesnt get shorted in 2010
I cant't agree with you on that juggalotus.
Look at the attendance for parks that had built a coaster this past year. I think that instaed of going on expencive cruises and over seas trips, people are going to take there vacations near or closer to home with the economy the way it is.
Parks that are going to put in a shiny new coaster or attraction, are going to benifit from it.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I have no real evidence other than personal experience for the following, but:
I still want to know what demographic spends more in the parks. A coaster like Maverick (or MF or Dragster for that matter) is going to appeal to a certain demographic. Are those folks contributing to the per cap as significantly as say, a family of four with two kids under 10 years old?
My experience as a young enthusiast vs an older daddy is....no. I spend WAY more on park visits now than I ever did as a younger person. The same folks who keep pushing for bigger, faster, shinier new coasters are also the same one's complaining about the small cups of free water. I can tell you there is no way I'm getting through a day in the park on water.
A "family" ride is LONG overdue. One that can be enjoyed by Grandma and Grandpa along with the under 10 set. Maybe that isn't what they are going to do on/near the island...but they should.

Because what is going in there is probably major, it does not have to be a coaster to be a large scale, major ride. Remember, CP is an "amusement park", not "coaster park".
My bet is that this is some type of new style flume ride, with possibly an indoor, themed part.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Press kits for Maverick didn't go out early. The Maverick web site went live a couple of hours before the park officially announced it. An image was leaked a few days before that and Screamscape decided to run with it.
when i iwas there monday the line for MF was half 8 to 15 year olds im asuming thier there with daddy and his money . so fams with kids 8 & older and younger might be more attracted to thrill rides. besides kids under 8 have kiddie kingdom planet snoppy & camp snoppy. Plus i consider DT,BS,ID,CCMR,SRF,TR,WC to all be fam rides
Walt! How dare you mention their name on this website!
Congrats on Pointbuzz staying true to the CP extremist.
Very well put Chief, I agree. I am a coaster enthusiast and plan trips to CP for my wife and I but leave the kids with grandma and grandpa. When we take the kids (1,3 and 5) we will go to KI because I feel they are more kid/family freindly. We do way more with the kids than we do just the two of us.
That being said, I have KI to take the kids to...So lets get another coaster! (I know its not going to happen so please take it easy everyone). I will be happy with it regardless of what it is. I have never been disapointed by CP with the exception of MaXair which makes me sick. I do understand though that not every ride at CP can be marketed towards everyone so I am sure MaXair made a lot of people very happy.

To expand on what Walt was saying, I doubt we'll ever see paper media kits again. There's no point. They're expensive and inefficient compared to what an well-designed Web site will do.
