Apparently Tony wants this thread to continue for another 48 pages...

Yeah they don't want the hype and excitement to die down.

Quite obviously, Jeff gives Tony a cut of the revenue generated by his posting. Well, a cut of what's left after maintenance costs on the black helicopter are factored in.

I have a question...When is the so called "usual time" that Cedar Point announces new rides/attractions for the next season?

coasterfanatic2012's avatar

I believe they announced Maverick near the beginning of September, well after construction had begun. That's the only one I can really remember...

I would say the 'usual time' for most parks is towards the end of their season so that they can use it to drive season pass sales. However, CP has tended to be later in recent years.

MaxAir was announced in December, Skyhawk in late October, Dragster in early January.

They will tell us soon! I know when they closed Geauga Lake, I was there on the last Sunday it was open and then the Friday after boom! No more park! I am sure it will be a boom when it happens! For me I like surprises so I will wait and watch.....

It really all depends. Millennium was announced before the park closed. TTD was announced sometime in January or Feb 2003. As if I am not mistaken the were planning to announce it the day after the park closed for the season but delayed it due to the hype that it was getting on the internet.

But overall most new ride attractions are usually announced after the park closes for the season.

^I think I see where you are going with this...

Hey Tony we don't even really care what you guys are planning. Nope, no hype here... Go ahead and close this thread Walt. So little hype that I'm thinking I'll cancel my trip(s) to CP this year... you know unless something peeks my interest before the end of the season..

Anyone at CP tonight for the passholder ERT? I myself couldn't go 'cuz wife is letting me drive down to KI Friday night and for a VIP visit on Saturday.....give and take is what it's about....anyhow, I got a text message from a friend who was at the ERT this evening. She stated that construction has begun on the island.

That is all she said. She does go to CP more then, I do. So, I assume there is new activity on the island. Has anyone else, seen anything?

(not intentionally throwing fuel on the fire..since there is so little hype....)

I don't know how new these parts are, but did anyone notice the section of spiral steps, and some other parts that look like they belong to a catwalk, in the small gravel lot next to Mean Streak? I don't remember them in the past but I'm not sure.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Well the reason there has not been too much hype is because there has not been too much land clearing yet. And also nothing has been taken down yet. Cedar Point has 17 coasters and I'm happy with what we have. I have to add this though. If Cedar Point is planning on adding another coaster or ride, go for it. :)

^^ Those parts have been in parking lot in front of the P&D building all season. Sounds like they got moved a few feet from your description of the location.

^ Yes, when I was there a couple days ago I forgot to report that. I seen that steel structure too. I did not know it was at the point prior than now. It looks new and the staircase looks like employee access steps already in use on several coasters.

I was at the point yesterday and I saw the stairs to. I thought it was a wierd place for them. They remind me of the ones that are on the Raptor...

After All of this talk About the new ride at CP. I just want one wish!!!!!! I just hope it is a Flier like Superman. That's what that park really needs,Something really out of this world like that.
And To answer this thread,or comment-there not gonna release anything until probably until the end of the season, due to competition reasons as we all know.so all us Ride warrior's will just have to wait and see!!!!!

A few posts earlier, someone mentioned the Frontier Lift building. It's amazed me that this building has stayed around for so long (not that I'm complaining--I have fond memories of riding the Lift). I'm sure it's been used for storage (in addition to the restrooms), but it seems to me the top floor could easily be converted into the queue for a ride that would venture out to the island (much like the WWL loading station was converted into Maverick's queue).

If that were the case, it would seem that whatever "it" is might be able to be built without disturbing the beloved (and family-friendly) Mine Ride.

Just my 2 cents.

Hey guys... My favorite park in the world is Cedar Point and I travel 11 hrs every year for my birthday from Richmond, VA. I don't want to rain on the mystery construction parade, but we just really have to put two and two together and say Cedar Point isn't getting anything major in 2010... I mean supposively my new giga at KD is going to cost $30-35 million (and those of you that haven't been tracking, this thing looks like a record breaker of some sort) and Carowinds is getting a massive B&M which I am assuming will be like Diamondback or a flyer... So where in the hell are they going to have the money this year to build CP a ride? If you want my honest opinion you won't need another attraction for a while because the park is still the greatest in the world the way it is now and will be for a while. It looks like CF is trying to beef up the other parks they have just purchased from Paramount and then once they are satisfied with that... CP will finally break the 500ft mark, which will be a $70 million investment and will have an underwater tunnel that goes into Lake Erie!!!! HAHA don't we all wish!!!

djDaemon's avatar

Supposively, you're talking out of your posterior. One park's cap ex doesn't impact another's - its that simple. And "your" new giga is going to KD? Why didn't you keep it?

They need to build a floorless drop coaster like Griffon and Skeikra, only have it be a 300 footer that touches down in the water around MFI.
