Is a flyer that much different than a inverted. I would think that an inverted would be much more exciting than a flyer

Different strokes for different folks.
I have not ridden Tatsu or Manta, but have been on both B & M and Vekomas...the B & M was marginally better, the Vekomas were just plain terrible in every aspect...but perhaps with Tatsu/Manta they are finally getting it right?
I take part of that back; going up the lift hill of a lay-down Vekoma is pretty fun; I think they would actually be much better rides if you staye don your back and didnt invert to become a "flyer". Why havent we seen that attempted?

I read this whole thread it kills me the people who complain about not having enough rides that the whole family can ride together.... this isn't Disney! People come from all over the country and all over the world to CP to ride the thrill rides and coasters. I have a kid and he can ride rides by himself while I watch I don't have to ride with my whole family to have fun. We go for the thrills. Go to Disney if you want a family ride!
As for the new ride if it is a "flume ride" which I hope it is not it would have to be themed to the max to make it worth it. Personally I think it is to big of a clearing just for a flume ride.
^Now I'm not one to defend family rides and I would love a new record breaking coaster, but that makes no sense. I'm pretty sure a family of 4 in ohio/michigan would find it more economical to go to CP that go to disney for some family rides.

Aren't all roller coasters in some shape or form a "gimmick"? They're big, flashy, attract attention, and attempt to draw more guests to make more money. Sounds like a gimmick to me.
Call me a lunatic, complete idiot, whatever, but I found Firehawk to be a very enjoyable and unique ride for me. Sure, the restraints were slightly awkward but it was fun and decently comfortable. I really want to get on a B&M before too long to experience the better comfort the restraints supposedly provide. Of course, I also ruffle a lot of feathers because I find Son of Beast to be more enjoyable than Mean Streak, which in turn I find to be much more enjoyable than the Beast (yes, you read that right, I enjoy Mean Streak more than the Beast! Heresy, I know).

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I might of came off wrong. I didn't mean for everyone who wants family rides to go to Disney, but at the same time these people are complaining they go to CP and they can't ride enough rides with their families. They know exactly what they are getting before they go. CP would have to spend a ton of money to retro fit the park and gear it towards family rides. I wouldn't even mind if they put in a family ride next year. All I was saying is it doesn't sound like 1 family ride would do it for these people!

2010 will not be a new coaster, plus flyers are gimmick coasters just like standups.
plus giga coasters are gimmick coasters, just like strata coasters which are gimmick coasters, just like eurofighters....catch my drift?

No, those aren't as bad because of the normal riding position. If flyers and standups are so great, there would''ve been more built at other parks. There would be more giga and strata coasters if more parks could justify their cost to build them. However, the whole highest, biggest, fastest, tallest, and steepest adventure just isn't there anymore. Ride experience carries more weight than record breaking in the long run. My guess is CP will build something more family oriented.

Maybe you need to take a back seat ride on SOB...or maybe you already did and it scrambled your brain (hehe ;))

I agree, but CP also has a tendency to want to use the words "record breaking" when describing their new rides. Although they certainly should be able to achieve both, I think "record breaking" tends to take precedence based on their track record.

I still haven't quite figured out what that means. Hey, maybe Intamin coined the term to describe the design and CP just went with it.

What kind of record would it break exactly?
How does one truly define a family ride anyway; is it height restriction?

It all depends on how you define "record breaking" and "family ride". I would say Pilgrims Plunge at Holiday World is one. CP tried to bill Maverick as a family coaster and it broke the record for most coasters in a park (again). Skyhawk is the world's tallest screamin' swing and it is generally family friendly. It all depends on how lenient you are with the definitions.
I would say that water rides are the easiest way to do both. Families tend to ride them together, even if they are somewhat intense (see Dudley Do-Right, Splash Mountain).

Terra coaster was a term for hugging the terrain. Maverick rides close to the ground, but doesn't hug the terrain like certain parts of the Beast.
