More newbie Questions...

Hey...This is my first year at the point, and aside from visiting every year I'm going in pretty blind because I don't know anybody.  If you guys could help me out, that'd be sweet.
1.  I'm going to be a games host...Is it difficult at all to meet people/make friends doing that, as apposed to ride crew or do you basically meet everybody in the dorms/apts like college?
2. What is the coolest/wildest place to live that is going to still be available around May 12th?
3.  Since I won't be 21 until August...which bars can I get into before then?
4.  Any other tips on saving the little money we get or anything else would be great.
Thanks alot guys.....  You can IM me on aol at Freddieneo

You will meet all sorts of people.  The coolest wildest place to live will probably vary from person to person, but I think the Commons area is pretty cool and wild. It's also right across the street from a bar (Louie's, well, sort of. If you takeaway a parkinglot and a street and a grassy area).  As for saving the money.  Don't take advantage of any type of check CASHing with CP or anyone else.  I lost more money cashing checks then depositing them. (I'm not talking about the fees involved, It's the idea of money in your wallet saying  "Spend Me, Spend Me").  It will probably be easier to deposit all of your checks and never cash one of them.  (Only after October did a light bulb in my head go "Well, DUH!" :))

I can't belive someone just asked people to list bars that will knowingly serve underage people.

And no Louie's won't do it, but unfortunetly some peopel will buy for underagers and that's where the trouble starts..

Think about it people...

You will not have a problem making friends...Commons is a fun place to live in or at least I think so.. I would definitely get direct deposit to save money or else you will spend it! You can go to louies if you are underage..just make sure you have a friend who is 21

You're exactly right about the direct deposit Gina. I've seen a TON of people work all summer nad have nothign to show for it at the end of the season. It's harder to spend if you actually have to go and get the $$ as opposed to having it in hand.

Thanks guys...  Just thought of another one...

How do the mail, and linen exchange work up there?

                       Freddie

The mail in the beginning of the season you will pick up at HR until the mailroom at cedars ppens and with the linen exchange..if you live at commons you get it from the desk when you check in and just trade them when you need clean sheets and towels..

The direct deposit thing is iffy--I  have a National City account and for some god-forsaken reason in MI the deposit codes have 10 digits and in Ohio they have 9...so I have to bank through the atm...you can only get direct deposit through fifth-third...which can be good maybe, but they like to rip you off...did you know that everytime you use your fifth-third checkcard as an atm card, they charge you 50 cents? Doesn't seem like much--but hey, thats a beer at Louies :) He needs to bring back the 25 cent night, anyone know why that stopped?

I think he wasn't making enough money at first or something. The National City branches in Michigan are not affiliates with the Ohio branches, that's why you've had so many problems, Nate. As far as saving money, there are ways. I also reccommend getting direct deposite. It's a lot eiser to save money. Take my advise, don't think you'll save all that much by living on-point. What I saved in rent, I spent in hospital bills. Regaurding making friends, it's automatic. I've never in my life met more friendly and loving people then CP workers. If you come out of there feeling more alone then when you went in, then it's your own fault. Good luck with your season and I hope to see you at Louies one night.

As for Uniform laundry exchange.  It's just that.  You get two uniforms, and You can keep a constant rolling exchange.  Sometime during the day, hand them your uniform and they'll hand you a clean one nearly instantaneously.  They kind of explain it better on the Discovery Channel Special about CP.

Don't forget that Louie's had a couple of visits from the undercovers last year, 2 nights in a row if I remember right.  Wouldn't be surprised if they come back this year to say 'hi'.

Personally, I did direct deposit, and had several grand to show for my summer, it's a great thing. CP will let you know how to set up a direct deposit acount through 5/3 Bank, and if you miss it (like I did last season), you can go to the 5/3 on 250, and they can get you set up. *WORD OF WARNING* if you use your ATM card as a debit card at Meijer, you will get charged $1.50 every time, I found this out the hard way. It's more efficient to just write checks. And Rob, I believe that FreddieNeo, said "which bars can I get into..." not which bars I can get served at...there may have been more meaning behind it, but they didn't actually say it...

No, it's more efficient to use your debit card as a credit card when they ask credit or debit. You should never use your bank card as a debit card anywhere.

Ya just gotta be smart. At Louies, be responsable. Regaurding your money, be smart. But have fun. There's no reason to really be there if your not having fun. If you hate your job, your just going to be miserable, and that's not going to be good for you or the people that you work with. So, I guess in my migrained brain I'm trying to say have smart fun. (Give me some credit here.)

What are some good things to bring when you live there...The CP site says the obvious, i.e.  alarm clock, sunscreen...

What about for entertainment, decorations, etc...or are you not in your room enough to even care?

Honestly I didn't spend much time in my room. However it is nice to have a TV and radio. As far as decorations that is up to you. If you don't live too far away form CP then you can always see what you need and go get it. You don't want to have alot to take home at the end of the season....

If you stay in the dorms at commons they have air conditioning. The apartments and Cedars on point don't have air...
