I had just heard this on Channel 3 news.  From what they said it was going through a test and stopped, they didn't say where, and they were working on getting the testers down from the ride.  I hope they repair whatever needs to be repaired. :)
Intamin- . In tay min 1, n.. An amusement ride manufacture located in Switzerland. Intamin makes coasters. 2, v. A way to describe a mechanical device which has an unusual amount of downtime. Millennium Force and Demon Drop are Intamin

OK, Millie has been rather trouble free up until last week. Still, I can see why hooper calls it Maintenance Force because of all the problems early this year and all of last year. :)

Looks like they could call it MAGNUMMANIA. Just as good though :).

CPs webpage isn't showing the MF webcam anymore.
That is because there was a train stuck pretty high up on the lift with employees in it. That is probably why they took the webcam off.
You can get the the MF webcam by going to http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/webcam/powertower.cfm

I just added power tower to the end and it worked.  sure enough you can see the train at the top of the lift.  Of course this happens because I'm headed there next weekend.  :(  Come on CP get it up for the 8th!!!!

What does this mean for LeeUK? Wasn't he flying over to CP this weekend from England? Hope he had the chance to ride MF....

So will there be an announcement, that will say what happened from CP? or is this just a little (more than a day) delay in the operation of MF?

We got Lee on MF twice yesterday (we being Brian, Anne adn myself)... his description of his first ride was a classic but can't be posted here due to the age of some readers.. but MAN was it funny..

So Ben.. DFD didn't work eh??? hehehehe

As Rob said, yup, we got Lee on Force twice, including a backseater. Deciding to give Lee the grand tour and having Brian and Rob come along had to be one of the best decisions I've made in a while. :) Lee was a sweetheart and too much fun...TR to come!
The lift cable separated from the red car which left it stopped near the top of the hill.On the way out I saw many vehicles & workmen on the platform, also no cable was visible going up.Also was told to call CP on Thursday before going to Millennium Mania if you planned to ride it.No injuries were reported to the employees stuck while testing this morning.
As of 6 PM today the cable was gone... yep thats right they took the cable off. Red train was stopped at the top and workers were evacuated(took at 1 hour, it was cool to watch). CP and LE Railroad was down part of the day so they could get stuff into the site. I am at the Point right now... I will keep you up to date(I can see the Force through my cabin window).

Coasters, U2, the Alarm make life worth living, for me anyway!
Replacement of the lift cable is supposed to take about 2 days..

(edit) THe 2 day time period I mentioned was based on them just changing the cable this week. Now that there may be more damage.. who knows..

I was there today and the red car was still near the top of the coaster around 9pm.  They had workers on the ground and at the top of the hill the whole day.  At least they are trying to solve the problem.

I saw the snapped cable on the ground near the elevator pulleys.  They rolled it up and drove it somewhere behind Breakers in a front end loader tractor.

I imagine that they are doing their best to get it fixed as Millenium Mania's success is dependant on MF being operable.

I wonder what the future holds for cable lifts?

don't count it out for MM yet gang...Jeff and I were discussing this earlier and he brought up a good point..The cable was made in the USA so Intamin really is not an issue here. The bigger question here is why it got to this point? Why wasn't there a "extra" on hand like many of the chain coasters that I'm sure they have extras for...

as far as the future goes regarding cable lifts..I'm sure its still very bright! Maintenance on cable lifts is going to be looked at however. The next cable I'm sure will "wear" as well just like "all" chain lifts..CP will most likely have one on hand next time though :)

All of you people freaked out about the ride not running until bonus weekends don't have to worry.
I'll put money on it being back up by Wednesday-Thursday. Cedar Point knew that the cable was worn. They were going to replace it after this year anyway, so they probably are ready for putting another cable on it. Remember when Magnum's chain broke and they had it up running that night or the next day? They will be just as fast and efficient with MF.

MF count: 20

I was at CP today from 9:30am - 9:45am. I saw the "Millennium Force will be down today" sign and I left with hopes of returning tomorrow. I am wondering if people will postpone their trips to CP until the problem is fixed. I may still go tomorrow if the GP would rather go when MF is up.

Be there through the thick and thin.

There may be more to it than just the cable. I had my super duper zoom camera with me and the mechanics appeared to still be doing extensive work with the I-beam which is the track for the catchcar and houses the rollbacks. This is with the cable off, after 6.

Remember, this is not just the cable we are talking about here, there is much more. What I don't think anybody has mention yet is the wreck the catchcar was in. It slid backwards all the way off its track underneath the station. It looked like it was in really bad shape. It's not meant to travel backward that fast after the lifting cable snapped.

Cedar Point is Damn lucky it happened when it did. Only a few more train later there when have been guest on the train and on the platform. It would be really bad if the had to evacuate people. Not only that, but the catchcar coming down into the station at 70 MPH with a train in there could have really hurt some people. Who know what kind of debris would have come flying into the station.
