Media Day and Opening Day live coverage

They are crinkle cut potatos sprinkled with seasoning similar to Old Bay.

Ah okay.

The refreshed Pet Farm is wonderful. Lots of guests seemed to be really enjoying it. Awesome move for the park.

"Thank the Phoenicians!"

Did anyone happen to get pictures/video of the revamped petting farm or any shots of Blue Streak at night (or maybe the Hotel Breakers/Lighthouse Point)? I'm hoping to see a nice "Coasterbob62-type of video" of opening day because I wasn't there. hahaha.

I keep hearing a lot about how great the park looks at night too. And I heard they light up the second and third hill on MF like when it opened-in addition to the lift hill light. Very nice!

^In a few short paragraphs,my summary of opening day. Yep got lots of pics of the improved Petting Farm (will try to post soon) which was very impressive (especially with tons of new animals) compared to what we're used to. It was packed with people when I went. Please check it out in person when you can. Highly recommended.
Did see the LED's on Blue Streak which looked cool but didn't see MF's "island hills" lighting package unfortunately. The expanded Lighthouse point wasn't totally completed/landscaped as of today (will be ready in 2 weeks) but did see some of the new cabins. Also saw the beginning construction of Slingshot (about 1/3 done).
LEE, Pipe Scream and the new Gemini midway were wonderful looking compared with the "rustic" ashpalt look of years past.
BTW, Space Age & Rock,Spin, and Turn rides from the old Jr.Gemini kids area last year were relocated to Kiddy Kingdom with Old Timers and Hot Rods being removed, smart choices by the park.
The bad: Without getting into detail, as great as the food was at Chickie's & Pete's (cheesesteaks and crabfries were addicting/amazing!...What is up with the bathroom situation there? Anyone who has frequented Game Day Grille in years past and then goes in the same building this year will understand. I feel sorry for the bar drinkers or anyone with a small child who goes here.
Was nice to see John Hildebrandt in the AM, said "hi".

I know what you mean about the restrooms, they need to get working restrooms in that building that are open to the public.

I think they have removed the internal restrooms from all of the inside park food & drink locations. No reasonable explanations to be found. Are there restrooms in the Midway Market?

Yes, there are restrooms in the Midway Market--clean restrooms too.

I want to comment on something that disgusted me today. Anyone who was there knows that the event did not start at the planned time for coaster club members. I'm unsure why. But I grew irritated hearing all the bitching and moaning in line waiting to get in.

Everyone I talked to had a sense of entitlement about what they should be getting. "Are we just getting a crappy hoody?" and "if they're not starting on time they should at least be bringing us out drinks". People were complaining to Tony several times just that I heard.

Folks, the park doesn't owe us anything. The park is not obligated to invite us, open additional rides ("why aren't more rides open"?), give us free food, drinks, and swag. If people keep acting this way, I wouldn't be surprised to see this practice discontinued.

For those of you who bitched, and you know who you are, grow up and stop acting like spoiled children.... you'll ruin it for the rest of us.

I was at the MF walkback today for 8:50 at the marina gate. I overheard a handful of people complaining about media day and how it was running late and what not. cant believe people are still whinning days later, people should just be damn happy for being invited

Which part of "some people had to wait 1.5 hours in 94 degree heat" did you miss?

DSShives's avatar

Well, it wasn't 94 to start with. There was an error in the weather reporting.

Fair enough, let's restate as 88 degrees with no clouds or shade.

If someone was really that uncomfortable they could have left and came back, or sat down in some shade. No excuse to still be whining about it, they are just showing a sense of entitlement. I suppose as coaster enthusiasts they never waited 1.5 hrs in 88 degree weather for anything, right?

I'm of the mindset that people are entitled to feel how they feel, regardless of what others think they should feel.

But should we care how they feel, regardless of what they feel?

This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!

If you paid to get in, paid for the hoodie, paid for everything you ate, then you have a right to complain. Since everything was FREE and you asked to be there you have no right to complain. Cedar Point can't control the weather. Weather complaints go to mother nature and good luck finding her.

Except when people are ungrateful douchebags and negatively impact the relationship of the enthusiast community with the parks. That isn't cool at all. As a club owner, I'm super annoyed right now that I have to deal with email from the park with regards to a member who violated park policy and has generally been a nuisance. It's very possible I'm going to have to revoke a membership for the first time in the 12 years I've run the club.

Feel whatever you want, but don't pretend it doesn't have consequences.

As an Eternal Questioner you should already know there is no such thing as a stupid question, only...

I believe this has already been covered previously, but the crab fries are rather mis-named. They are crinkle cut fries with a seafood seasoning spinkled over them, almost like a coating. I'm very sure there's more than a hint of Old Bay in there. And there's cheese for dipping. And no hint of crab whatsoever.

People now a days are very ungrateful.

Be respectful that the park invites club members.

The park is still technically closed, so actually enjoy any rides the open up for the event at hand.

You give a person a inch and they take it a mile long.

Read what Tony said in the previous postings it had a delayed start to the event. Not everything always starts exactly on time and such.

The most important thing is that this was a working media event and not a regular park day. We were special invited guest, so being at the place you were invited to you should respect your surroundings and thank staff, which I did numerous times.

What really floors me is seeing other people wearing shirts from other parks to a working Cedar Point media day.

I for one had a enjoyable time again and truly appreciated what the park offers up to club members in general.

You're absolutely right - you're entitled to your feelings.

But in what world do you live in where you're so spoiled-to-the-core rotten that you'd feel entitled to whine about the park being late, having been invited to a free ERT event?
