Mean Streak Rolls Back 7/12

I know CP wouldn't want to tear down MS because their coaster count would drop. But seriously, if they did take it down, they could easily fit 2 coasters in that area, which would actually up their count and they wouldn't have to deal with the maintenance nightmare they have with the ride.

I don't know how much they spend every year on maintanence for it, but from what I've heard, it sounds like quite a bit. Between water costs, maint. empl. wages, wood, etc, etc. It might actually save them money in the long run if they removed it. It is a beautiful structure and I always take ride on it when I'm at the park, but is it really worth all the hassle? I don't know, it's just a thought.

i hope parks are starting to learn that medium woodies are king! start breaking records like most airtime humps or something.

i think the brakes before the helix on magnum are a good idea, the trip through it is allready pretty rough and fast, and you come ripping out of the end of it into the humps. i dont even notice any speed difference either, i just hear them.

Loriu, I believe Monty said at the Coastermania Q&A that MS costs over $100K per year to maintain.

Honest truth told to me by marina gate readmissions host:

Host: Hand stamped, two cents.

Me: That's cool, I think I have two cents.

Host: I better not take it, by the time you leave here its all you'll have.

I know that they have done a lot of work on Mean Streak this year in terms of structural replacements and track changes. On the first turn you can see the addition of metal plates to the original wooden beams. On the drop right after the midcourse brakes you can see brand new wooden support structure to help with the rattle on that drop. Also on the turnaround under the lift hil, they have actually banked the track more which has cut down on the screeching of the ride. If these additions keep coming, perhaps the ride could be without trims one day.

The ride last night without the trims was awesome because we actually got nice laterals in the first 3 turns, and we got a few spots of airtime. Having the lights off was an extra bonus too.

...and the most anticipated event of summer 2003 is...

The Matrix: Reloaded!

Add the new lapbar system to the list of cost-saving improvements for this season.

Seriously though, when a park claims that they are using brakes to save on maintenance costs it isn't just an excuse. Costs add up quickly as neither skilled workers nor parts for rides come cheaply.

As for employee ride night...you must have gotten lucky because when we (snook) our front-seat ride the trims were definitely on.

Ride Maintenance 2003

I think they should retrack MS with the Intamin woodie track. Fix all the supports so it's not tearing itself apart. Make the trains more coushined. Then hopefully it would be able to have the trims takin off. But if they did tear it down they could put an awesome dueling floorless coaster. I want CP to get a dueling coaster, they are really good.

All in all, the park has to weigh the scale. On one side, you keep Mean Streak, continue to invest millions of dollars into the ride, adding improvemetns here and there. On the other side, you tear down and/or redesign the ride so that you don't have the maintenance costs you do now...personally, I'd go with a complete overhaul of the ride...but I am sure that the park has the best intentions for Mean Streak...

my god guys, the park is not gonna redesign MS or tear it down, it is a great ride...i love to hear these things, and then all the people who back it up like its going to happen...it makes my day...and like i said before, if you cant hack it, don't ride it...easy as that

if the ride was actually good, i dont think anyone would be saying any of this. its in a sad state right now.
Actually I seem to remember Monty saying at Coastermania that Mean Streak, and Blue Streak both cost around $250,000 to maintain yearly.

Eat your words.

"All the people back it up like its going to happen..."

So, tell me then, how can you back up your statement that the park will not do any of those things? Do you work at Cedar Point? Are you neighbors with the Planning and Design crew?

I thought not.

neo, i highly doubt that Cedar Point is going to do much more to Mean Streak. and if ya wanna talk about "word eating" i dont think that you're neighbors with the Planning and Design crew either...

I'm really, really, really, really, really hurt....not.

Back to the topic at hand, Cedar Point can go either way, but you have to look at the long run, is it really worth it to continue to invest millions into maintenance of the ride year after year??

Go Full Force. :::::::::::::89

yes because MS is one of the greatest wooden rides out there, i love that ride, its not as rough as most other woodies, take SOB for instance...that is rougher than MS...

have u not been to cedar point lately, like in the last 25 years. you want a dueling coaster, huh? how about Gemini!!

------------------
Top Thrill Dragster: 2
Millenium Force: 17
Magnum: 71

Gemini's not a dueling coaster. It's a racing coaster. It has 1 part where the trains are heading at each other (helix) but that's not enouph to be a dueling coaster.
Gemini = racer

DUELING Dragons, Gwazi, etc.=dueling
