Mean Streak, next to go??

I expect Mean Streak will be overhauled by GCI for the 2017 or 2018 season provided that Cedar Fair is happy with how Ghost Rider turns out. Cedar Fair has a recent trend of repeating successes at different parks, and I doubt Ghost Rider will turn out anything but spectacular.

The key difference is that Ghost Rider was a decent coaster (according to ride polls), thus worthy of the GCI treatment. Mean Streak, not so much.

Remove the first drop trims and turn off trimming on the mid-course brake, do some reprofiling of the hills after the mid-course to add airtime and reprofile the second hill to it's original height and you can have a pretty decent coaster. GCI would have to do some magic on the structure to allow this and maybe change the trains to allow better tracking so the tracks don't get torn up. But, Mean Streak's main issues that make it underachieve are slow speeds and a boring second half.

If only they would give it the Iron Horse treatment with IBox track. Imagine a completely refreshed and smooth version of Mean Streak with a couple of inversions, ejector airtime, and maybe a tunnel or two.

GCI could always replace the tracking, but that wouldn't make it any more of an exciting ride.

Reprofiled the second hill to its original height? Since when was MS' second hill reprofiled to make it a different height?

That all sounds like lipstick on a pig, Pete. That is, it sounds like an awful lot of resources spent toward turning a crappy ride into a mediocre ride.

Given the huge plot of land and the inherently high costs of maintenance on a wood coaster, they'd be far better off with a clean slate, in my opinion.

Well maybe, but I think it would be a better ride than it is now at probably a much lower cost.

On the second hill, both the second and third hill were lowered a bit so the train can make it over the top after the addition of the first drop trim.

Again, mediocre in your opinion. Iconic as it is, I find Corkscrew to be a mediocre, short, and often painful, ride with terrible capacity. If we're just talking ride preference, I'd much rather see it taken out than Mean Streak.

I would hate to see MS demolished. Too beautiful a structure and too much potential with the layout. The ride does suck now, but that is because of the roughness, and because the trims took away what was once fun about the ride.
I think a RMC conversion would be great. The new Texas giant is a fantastic ride.
We still need a good true woodie though. Blue streak is a wonderful fun classic style woodie, and I hope it stays.
But it doesn't hold a candle to newer woodies that are relatively smooth and have great laterals, air, turns, and drops, like Boulder Dash etc. it is a major gap in the CP lineup.
So, RMC to MS, a modern mid-size woody with great elements, and keeping CCMR as a great classic family mine train... All of this would perfect CP'a coaster lineup.
As far as the overall ride line up, then we need a classic flume and a good dark ride. All of the above and CP would be perfection.
A 400' starflyer would be amazing as well. I love windseeker, but it is a totally different ride experience compared to the starflyer at SFoT.

I totally agree. Give Mean Streak the iron treatment, build a decent modern woodie elsewhere in the park, and keep Blue Streak and CCMR. Only problem is, there isn't a whole lot of room for new coasters in the park without removing something. Maybe out in front of Hotel Breakers where Corkscrew is now? There isn't a much room there, but maybe something with a shorter layout (like Outlaw Run) would fit there?

There is plenty of room. All it takes is a little creativity. (RMC Mean Streak, solid woodie, and maybe a flyer and the lineup is perfect imo)

5 years ago there were three terrible rides in the park; Disaster Transport, Mean Streak, and Shoot the Rapids.

I do indeed see a pattern.

Mantis, while not terrible, could be added to that list as well.

If you look on the 3rd hill going down into the on-ride camera, it's apparent the ride structure has been lowered a bit. The wooden posts go above the handrails on either side of the track. I haven't noticed this on the second hill though.

For those who are suggesting an RMC of Mean Streak, but also wanting a wooden coaster, I completely agree. But I have an idea - why not have RMC use their wooden topper track (i.e. Goliath and Outlaw Run) instead of their iBox track? Can that work, or is it still not a true wooden coaster?

I believe that Mean Streak will get the RMC treatment soon. Not next season (dark ride / water park expansion is my guess) but within the next few years.

Rode it for the 1st time during the 2nd day of my 1st time to Cedar Point in 2007. Left the park using my girlfriend as a human crutch immediately after riding it.

Rode it this past halloweekend, front row @ night using the 'proper technique'. No trim on the drop. Ok ride until that MCBR. I've been all for RMC rebuilding this since I rode Goliath at SFGAM last year. RMC all the way.

2017 - Soak City overhaul, dark ride

2018 - Family ride?

2019 - RMC Mean Streak

I hope MS gets the RMC treatment as well. (Remove Major Crap)

Not sure I see the Soak City expansion and dark ride happening in the same year. Rather over the next four years I believe we could see Soak City expansion, RMC MS, dark ride, coaster. Not necessarily in that order. That's just me though.
