Mean Streak Back in the Day

I experience no pain during the ride, but am prone to headaches immediately after the ride. That's strange, because I rarely get (non-caffeine-withdrawal-related) headaches.

I wonder if someone at CP has there eyes on how Son of Beast reactions will be once it re-opens. At least Kings Island is finally doing something to address the problems to their giant woodie. Perhaps if it re-opens to much fanfare it will convince CP to at least do something to Mean Streak, especially given the new attention to Frontier Town.

I hadn't heard that it was closed... But unless they can miraculously turn it into a smooth coaster, I won't be impressed.

The only reason The Meanstreak seems so bad is because it is in Cedar Point. It is overshadowed by roller coasters like Millenium Force, Magnum, Raptor and Top Thrill Dragster. If you were to put The Mean Streak in a park like Kennywood, it would not seem nearly as bad. We seem to forget the CP spoils and it is unlike any other park.

Kings Island is doing major work on SOB. Track up the first lift hill and down, and at other various parts of the ride is missing, and maintenence crews have been doing things all over the entire structure, and they are also rumored to be getting different trains. It is scheduled to "reopen" late spring/early summer. There goal is to make it smooth...which, like you mentioned DBCP, would be more than just impressive.

It's all true! (I can see it) Son of Beast always seemed less bumpy than Meanstreak to me. I've ridden Son of Beast plenty of times too. The fact of the matter is they are both pretty darn painfull rides. They also provide a very uncommon kind of thrill. The feeling that any second it'll collapse into a pile of wood. ;)

Although I'm most likely wrong, I think it's more the nature of wooden roller coasters. The bigger the more bumpy.

As for how expectations for smoothness have gone up (said on the first or second page), look at some pictures of really old woodies, and the padding 3 or 4 inches thick...

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

I'm my opinion, a good wood coaster is SUPPOSED to beat you up a little. I took a Britsh coaster buff firend of mine on it, and his recation was "What were you doing? Trying to kill me?????"

I simply similed and told him there's a reason why the call it the MEAN STREAK! Personally, I love up ther w/ Millie, Maggie, and TTD.

While I respect your opinion, Hopman, I cant wait to ride El Toro this June, and Im expecting a great smooth ride on a giant woodie I can finally enjoy.

Did I just say Im expecting a great ride on a giant woodie?

I guess some just like to rough...

Where is El Tor anyway, SF Jersey?

Yes...my wife and I are going to Dorney Park in PA, and as neither of us have ever been to a Six Flags, we are stopping in at SFGA for one day. El Toro should be completed by our late-june visit.

Progress on SOB seems to be going well, according to those in Kings Island land...
