I don't get it...after riding MS last year I swore I would never ride it again. The bouncing was so bad and it was not fun, plain and simple. How can a ride be so bad for me and seem so good for others?
Who knows...but I think its pretty clear: MS is not good enough to keep around beacuse its a classic and we all know CP could do a lot better with that pretty chunk of land. IMO, a huge hunk of wood with bad trains and a really boring layout can't be revived. Time will tell.
If they were to tear it down and replace it with a new woodie I would be satisfied. If they were to tear it down and replace it with some dumb flyer or something I'd be pissed off. Cedar Point needs to get their wooden coaster count up. Having 16 coasters and only 2 of them being wood, that is lacking IMO.

Replace mean streak with a steel track like gemini? NEVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVERRRRRRRRRRR! YUCK! youve got to be joking right? That just makes it a sad exuse for a woodie. You might as well turn it into something completely different. I think not.
Its a wooden-roller coaster. If it was smooth it wouldnt be a woodie in the first place. Thats the classic in it. Grow a decent back bone and quit complaining. Mean Streak isn't going anywhere.
have a nice day :) And relax. Its an oppinion.

"If it was smooth it wouldn't be a woodie?" Have you ridden any genuinely good wooden coasters?
They're not all rough. Try Thunderhead, Raven, Legend, Lightning Racer, Twister, Phoenix, Ghostrider (for the most part). Those rides are smooth and they're quite certanly wooden.

I guess it makes a great starter coaster for little kids now. Makes them feel like theyre on a "big ride".
It was my first "big ride" :)

I agree...the Mean Streak is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Trivia question...Can you name a wood coaster that was converted to a steel coaster with the addition of a tubular steel track?
Two hints:
1) It was NOT at Cedar Point.2) John Miller built the original coaster.

That would be Bobsleds at Seabreeze.
And about Mean Streak, I enjoied it when I rode it for the first time in a while last fall. Certainly not my new favorite or anything, but it was better then people made it out to be.
I think this year its going to be the first coaster I go on. Every year I try it out at least once...even though Im self admittingly a big critic. I just miss it pre-trim, thats all.
I found something I like. I like it a lot. Not to replace Mean Streak or occupy the WWL space, but to fulfil the dream of a woodie on the beach to replace DT in the future.

This, my friends, is a beautiful CCI wooden coaster. It stands at a nice 120' tall, races down the hill at a breezy 56mph and cost a nifty $4.3 million. Look at that, it's cheaper than Skyhawk and most quality flats. Put it on my 2008 Christmas list.

I rather enjoy the ride. The combination of no line and a good thrill make it an experience. Normally I will ride it a couple of times in a row. It is more fun with the trims off though!
A great wooden coaster looks like this or this. But one problem, The Voyage and Shivering Timbers out and back style would never fit in CP. They need a quality woodie that looks more like this or this.
Has anybody ridden MS front seat on a dark cool night? For some reason, I felt as if I was flying as the ride raced through the course. I waited 45 minutes to ride MS the last Saturday of the season last year and it was one of the best rides I had all day.

We rode front seat at night late last summer, and it was a great ride - it actually seemed improved from other recent rides, but I'm not sure if that was due to weather conditions or other mechanical factors. In any event, it's still one of my favorite rides.
Question: Do they ever turn the trims off? And if so, under what conditions? I hear people say "Yeah man, when I was there, they were off, and blah blah blah", but quite frankly I take stuff like that with a grain of salt.
So anyone who would actually know, ride ops, Jeff, Walt...are they ever off? Just curious.

I'm probably not the one to answer this, but I'll give it a try...
From what I've read/heard, the trims keep the ride from tearing itself apart, so I would imagine they are always off.
Again, though, I can't be 100% sure on that.
