Mean Streak Back in the Day

I remember being at the park the year that Mean Streak opened (and in subsequent years), and it was such a great ride. It really saddens me to see this awesome coaster lose its 'spark', makes me wonder if it's not possible to return it to its former glory, or just a question of money the park would rather spend elsewhere.

I guess it makes a great starter coaster for little kids now. Makes them feel like theyre on a "big ride".

Maybe there could be some way to rebuild the track to revive the original MS. Perhaps steel track on wood supports like on Gemini and CCMR? Then we could experience that 1st hill and banked turns as they were intended, not to mention the lost air time on the bunny hops. I still like to ride, but not my favorite by any means and never in the 2nd seat of the car. Best seat is 1st seat 1st car, what it lacks in fun is made up for in the view, wind and other effects. BS is much more fun, for now!

It's not just as easy as deciding to throw up steel track and doing it making it a homely weekend project.

BLASPHEMER!

The only thing that needs to be done is to turn off the trim's on the first drop. But since that won't happen, we'll just have to remember when it was better.

It's ok I still love the Mean Streak and I think it is one of the best rides in the park.

Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance! They won't turn the trims off because it's too costly to maintain it like that. A little better engineering of the track design would have helped, now it's just beyond repair for CP. It has had it's day and disappear when people stop riding it, unfortunately.

The first half of the ride is just a bad design, and the ride just tears itself apart.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

Trivia question...

Can you name a wood coaster that was converted to a steel coaster with the addition of a tubular steel track?

Two hints:
1) It was NOT at Cedar Point.

2) John Miller built the original coaster.

Yeah, I REALLY wish CP would take the Kennywood route and rebuild/redesign the Mean Streak utilizing Gravity Group or Great Coasters International.

People have already stopped riding it, beccaraptor. It gets horrid reviews from people visiting the park from outside the area, and most frequent visitors I know, including myself and my wife, have grown tired of waiting for CP to do something about it, aside from not acknowledging the problem.

The only people that ride are its loyal followers and people who have never been to CP, whoare shocked by the non existant line until they get off.

I hope it keeps getting horrible reviews, it keeps the lines down for people like myself who love it.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

I really like Mean Streak. Sure it's not the smoothest coaster out there, but believe me, I've been on much worse!

You know, I think I got some of the best rides I've ever had on Mean Streak last year. On just about every ride there were two spots of airtime, which was a pleasant surprise. Both moments were in the few hills after the MCBR.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

O.K. RideMan, I'm stumped. I've searched every data base I can find.

Maybe another clue?

If I had a dollar for every rider sitting behind me in the second seat complaining about how rough the ride was and "oh my back", I'd have retired by now! White knuckle rides are fun, but too much butt bounce hurts all, young and/or old. Time to retire MS? Redo? Maverick?

Ok Ride Mean Streak then go and Ride Son Of Beast then I dare you to complain about how rough Mean Streak is.

There isn't nothing wrong with mean streak it's just the smooth ride that steel gives.Today's thrill seekers isn't as tough as they was back in the day. That good smooth ride that steel gives has spoiled a few.I doubt though mean streak will go anywhere anytime soon,as a matter of fact it will probably still be up and running long after the high tech junk is gone.Go ahead flame me for my opinion,I'm used to it,been married 18 years.
