Mean Streak?

"Area of work" as in, the fenced off area in rivertown? Hmmm...

Continuing the topic on kings island, anyone else think it would be kick ass if kings island brought the son of beast back as a 200 ft rmc topper track woodie?

Its important to keep in mind that scremscape's sources are are actually us whether we realize it or not. The various rumors don't come from any sort of reliable inside information, and are in actuality just the speculation we make on here and elsewhere. I can remember several years ago before GK was announced someone on another site was convinced that we were getting not just one, but two new coasters for 2013 and the park was hiding all of the footers and prep work every morning; despite that being patently ridiculous, it still ended up on screamscape. The information becomes self legitimizing due to the sheer volume, not the quality or accuracy.

Me: "It's a roller coaster, not a broken clothes hamper."

Screamscape has a very good track record with getting RMC conversions spot on, however.

If this KI thing is real, this makes the RMC Mean Streak even more legit. GCI's don't cost a ton, 7-10MM range and RMC conversions are in the same ballpark. Put those two together and you got what CF generally pays per year in a giant coaster. If it was 25MM Giga that would make it less plausible to me. Even more good news on the RMC Mean Streak front!

I somewhat see it as bad news because if KI is going with GCI, it points to the idea that Cedar Fair is starting to work more with GCI. This leads me to worry that this is only going to be a GCI retracking ala Ghostrider. If this is the case then I am not very excited for it. Sure it will be smoother but the layout is still meh. Unless they were to significantly change the layout. I just wish they would RMC it and be done with it. They can build a GCI down the road.

Just a thought, and not to put a damper on those of you that want a full iron horse conversion, but given the time frame, it might be possible that CP will just have topper track installed. I don't know what the turn around time is to do an iron horse, but it seems to me that it would be unlikely to get that done between August and next year's opening. Maybe I'm wrong on that, and if I am I'm sure someone will correct me. Putting topper track on it that time frame does seem doable, and would make sense from a money standpoint as well. I just can't see a full iron horse conversion and a Soak City upgrade following right on the heels of Valravn.

Topper track is a bit of a deceiving name. It's not a piece that gets laid over existing track. Its a full 6-8 layers of laminated wood and the top two layers are replaced by the steel. From what I've read on other sites there is no real cost difference between the two and it would require the same amount of work as Iron Horse. I.e. removing all existing track and track bed and replacing it.

There is plenty of time to do a full Iron Horse conversion. The only reason all the others have taken so long is because they have been at Six Flags parks. And yes. I believe I-Box and Topper Track are about the same cost and take around the same time to install.

Blue Streak is a beautiful example of a traditional wooden coaster. I imagine it too is costly to maintain, but nothing compared to MS. It's not just the initial cost of an attraction, but future costs as well. With this in mind, topper track will deteriorate eventually and need replaced. Steel track would be the better option.

There are pros & cons to RMC vs GCI refurb of Mean Streak. The enthusiast in me is itching to get in an RMC creation, and Mean Streak is a good candidate for an Iron Horse treatment. But if GCI were to come in and make Mean Streak smooth the. That would be another coaster I could ride with my 6 year old kid. He currently likes Predator at Darien Lake but I limit him to one ride per trip because he looks like he's being shaken violently and will wind up with whiplash. He hasn't tried Mean Streak yet.

PS- Predator is a perfect candidate for topper track. It actually has a pretty good layout for a small to mid-size wooden coaster. It's just brutal to ride.

Like it has been said many times in this thread, however, mean streak is overall a bland layout, and if it were smooth, it would be borderline boring.

I'll agree with the thought process that RMC is the best choice for Mean Streak and a brand new GCI/GG coaster in Frontier Town where StR was would be the best and most ideal future plans. Only time will tell though.

One thing is for sure. The next couple months will be exciting watching the work being down in the park.

Point seems to be turning into ODOT now, in the past 3 seasons has there been a down time for construction? lol Seems like they end one project and just go right into the next. This, along with Breakers Express expansion and the Sports complex they are keeping contractors busy.

Know what else is boring? Woodstock Express. But I love riding it with my kid. My friend and I took 40 laps on 9 coasters (mostly the monster coasters) at CoasterMania!, one of which was Gemini. I didn't find it to be an overly thrilling ride, and the turns were downright dull since it was only running the red train. But when I have my son with me we sure have a blast riding it.

Read my whole post. I agree a RMC conversion would be incredible and I'd love to see it happen. But if they could make Mean Streak tolerable, it's another experience I can share with my son for the few years until he's ready for the big guns. And that's anything but boring. It could be the world's tallest, fastest, and longest family coaster.

I know people that say the same thing about Millennium Force...

Knotts has a pov of the 'new' GhostRider. Watching side by side of the new and old on YouTube, they really took the lumbering slowness out of it, especially after the MCBR. Which does not slow the train down at all, really. The end of the run after MCBR starts fast and keeps it up. Would love to ride it. It seems as though they did a nice job. After seeing that, I wouldn't be so sure it'll be RMC.

GhostRider had a good layout to work with. It used to be a top 10 woodie, now Mean Streak on the other hand...

SV ruins all other rides.

Mean Streak with a couple more elevation changes could provide a lot of airtime.

Would it be enough to bring MS to the top of the charts? Probably not. That is the reason RMC is a better bet than GCI, even if my vote would be for GCI. (I still don't like the Millennium Flyer stomach hammer restraints)
