Mean Streak- Redone

I have to question whether the people posting have riden the ride this year or are just talking about 3 years ago they rode and didn't like it. I was impressed as to the work that was done to the ride. Rode it 2 times the 2nd week of operation and thought it was great. I love wood roller coasters. If this was a KI page you all would be complaining about it having 2 lifts.

I think the problem is people don't get what a wood roller coaster is. You would just rather not ride one. So be it, don't. But there are plenty of riders that want to ride wood coasters that it isn't that big of a deal. Your confusing your own agendas with other peoples. You don't know what other people who visit do. And where Mean Streak sits I doubt your back there counting heads. If that's what you like to do than great.

Have you rode it recently? That is my point. It has been improved.

^ yup. That's why I wonder what other woodies people have been on.. Like they have nothing to compare it to except the steel coasters at cedar point. So yes, by comparison it's very rough but next to other woodies, it's normal.

Top Wood: Timberwolf (don't judge me..)

I feel like I am a pretty good judge of wooden coasters seeing that I have been to amusement parks in 6 states AND 3 countries. I have ridden on plenty of woodies and I do tend to enjoy them more than steel coasters because they all have unique character. The roughest woodie I have ever been on was the Bandit at Movie Park in Germany. Mean Streak is kinda in the middle of the pack for me, in terms of roughness.

I have been coming to CP since I was a kid and I must say that Mean Streak is doing quite well this year compared to some other years. The recent work on it does help along with the riding technique I described before. I have probably been on it at least 100x this season since I currently live in the area :-)

Beast got extensive retracking/reprofile, the helix is now almost close to butter smooth with nice classic woodie jerk nothing more.

That ride is a greatly maintained and powerful ride. The first turn out of the shed to the first tunnel...Sexy

Never heard of a coaster being called sexy, lol!

I am somewhat apprehensive with this reprofile done on the Beast, I actually hope it's not changed that much. I liked the slam going into the first tunnel of the helix. I suppose I'll be finding out soon enough.

Also, my user name is the Upside Down Funhouse. Sorry, didn't know how to make an upside down E, I know it looks terrible! I just uploaded a picture for an avatar, which might help (if you squint). Yes, I have a soft spot for the old fun house at CP.

redsfan, I see your point. I haven't ridden Mean Streak in years because the pain was too much and I gave up. "Jackhammer" is a good descriptive someone wrote here. In reading this thread, I might get the courage to try it again, leaning forward. But if this was the KI page, I'd bet they'd be complaining about Vortex. From what I've read lately about it, some things stay the same.

I've been on roughly 70 wooden coasters. While not all have been smoother than Mean Streak, 68 of them were noticeably better/more fun rides. Son of Best still rots at the bottom of the list for being both boring and for making other rough wooden coasters feel like a relaxing kiddie ride in comparison.

I think the KI maintenance team would say something different. Something like, "Why was this turn not banked more?"

Oh, cool. I had no idea they completely redid the layout to make it not boring.

I think Cedar point should redo the track iron. Like the Texas Giant or the Iron Rattler at the six Flags Parks!

After the fatal accident last week on Texas Giant, I think Mean Streak might be fine the way it is.

What are the restraints like on Texas Giant? Is it just a lap bar with no seat belt?

Yes it's a hydraulic (or whatever, non ratcheting) lapbar with go/no go lights and no seat belt.

Even with the Texas Giant accident, I still think Mean Streak needs to go down in a blaze of glory literally. Set that thing on fire. Build a decent wooden coaster in it's place. I've been on plenty of better wooden coasters with much more inspired and enjoyable layouts.

Hydrolic t bar that is larger and more molded than say the ones on top thrill dragster. Texas giant also has high plexiglass siding. The eyewitness reports are incorrect that talk about the seats clicking, the restraints have no click. Also there is a light that shows the bar is locked and the seat where the woman was came back still locked. Unfortunately I think that the accident was the same issue we have seen before with larger riders and hydrolics that led to the installation of go or no go belts. There was no belt on this ride but the park has since called for them.

Arn't the trains for NTG made by Gerstlauer?

Yes.

IMO, Mean Streak is like wine.

If it's like wine, it's either Thunderbird or Wild Irish Rose.

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

Any coaster that you have to "learn how to ride" in order to not feel pain is fatally flawed from the get go.

Seems that Maverick falls into that category based on comments that I hear at the park and on this site.

I second this. But once I learned how to ride Maverick I wanted to go on it again and again. Can't say the same thing about Mean Streak. I'm ok with it being there, I just don't ride it often.

Hey I wanted to ask a question on here without starting a new topic. Is Cedar Point done with the Mean Streak photo booth? I never see it open anymore.

Somebody please respond to my question! Please!

Part of the problem with Mean Streak is that it really lacks any theming whatsoever. It is simply not visually appealing as a "thrill" to ride, it has horrible squealing noises emanating from it's trains (that are a lot like nails on a chalkboard), and there is little (if anything) of a tie-in to it's Frontier Town location.

Compared to other woodies like Beast or Voyage, it make no use of the landscape that surrounds it - or mystery as to "what you can't see that is around the next turn".

Without anything special (inversions, tunnels, loops, etc.) most people will pass it by --- especially since the entrance is not really evident due to the train station and how you need to go down a path that seems like only stores and an eventual dead end. Then, after you ride it - there is nothing else in close proximity to do afterwards.

No matter what they were to do to make it a smoother coaster, it needs some "personality" and uniqueness to get more supporters.

I was wondering the same thing. Ride capacity isn't high enough to make money off pictures there.

I haven't been on Mantis for awhile... is that photo booth still open?

I believe it was Jeremiah in the post right above yours who said that;)
