We were in the middle of the train closer to the back. It was the green train and the jackhammering was a strange rolling sensation at first and it seemed that the train was bouncing repeatedly by at least a foot.
I normally enjoy MeanStreak but so far this season I've been a bit disappointed with it. I've had a couple good rides and a lot of not so hot rides with a fair amount of jackhammering which I wasn't noticing so much last year. Monday was not good and was a really bad bug evening on top of it but my son who was on a couple trains before me said he got a trimless ride and it was great.
The one time I rode Mean Streak this season, at the beginning of June, could be best described as "Rabid Massage Chair".
I think it was the green train, 2nd row from the front, so being in the first car didn't really help. Like has been described, it's not -too- bad until the second half of the course. I don't know if it's the track or the train itself but creeping through the ride after the MCBR lets you enjoy every single bit of jackhammering. That was the only ride that trip that actually gave me a headache.
Not trying to discount your experiences, but I don't find it that bad at all. Matter of fact, there is an old guy (Mean Streak Henry) that rode it thousands of times and still marathons on it regularly. I just saw him a couple of weeks ago. I doubt Mean Streak is hazardous to your health if this guy regularly marathons on it. Maybe older guys just ate their Wheaties and toughened up compared to you younger dudes? I don't know. But, the roughness is what provides the thrill on Mean Streak, the layout itself isn't all that exciting.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I don't know how Mean Streak Henry does it, I think he does stick to the front mostly, though. I don't think "roughness" was how Mean Streak's thrill was originally marketed and acquiring a headache, rearranging organs, or pulverizing one's spine as an example of some descriptors here is not really attractive. I've ridden rides as long as most of you all, that level of roughness is incomparable to my other experiences with wooden roller coasters.

I think that's the thing. You really can't market "roughness" as the attraction, and I think it's a bit much to pigeonhole everyone else as wimps just because a handful of masochists or incredibly lucky individuals don't seem to have an issue with the ride.
I can think of plenty of "good kinds of pain" that I'm willing to deal with (e.g. from working out and that sort of thing). Mean Streak is not a good kind of pain.
The fact that they finally did something about Mantis makes me think that it's in the cards for something to be done about Mean Streak.

Last season I had some really awesome rides on it. Just haven't been lucky with trim brake roulette this year.
If I recall correctly, Mean Streak trains utilize an older coupling design. Whereas new Philadelphia Toboggan hardware has been updated. This may play a factor with the undesired jackhammer sensation. The design of the lap bar is intrusive to my legs, and provides additional discomfort throughout the course.

We rode Mean Streak today. The trim on the first drop was horrible (wondered if we would make it up the second hill) and the trains nearly stopped on the MCBR. It seems the ride is getting worse every time we ride it.
This article looks like Cedar Fair plans to work with RMC and GCI in the future, so a Mean Streak makeover could be possible.

If nothing happens to Mean Streak in the next 5 years I would be very surprised. We saw it coming with Disaster Transport and Mantis. Mean Streak should be the next coaster to bite the dust or get renovation.
Corkscrew I would say would be going soon as well but that location is hard to build across. Who knows though, CP always seems to make something out of anything.

If Mean Streak is re-done, I would vote for Gravity Group. The reason being that we seen what they can do with their sharp bank turns, so I would love to see Mean Streak have a loop. Plus it would still be considered a wooden roller coaster.
I feel like Mean Streak is like the disappointing son that refuses to move out. I can hear it now, "Why can't you be more like your sisters Millie and Maggie. Look at what your little brother Maverick has done, and he's 56 feet smaller than you."

i don't find the roughness to be that bad (just lean forward) but it's a very boring, forceless ride.

People have been lobbying for Mean Streak's removal for 10+ years. What has happened during that time? Wildcat, Disaster Transport, and Mantis were all removed.
Mean Streak is clearly the godfather. Iron Dragon and Corkscrew beware.

I think Mean Streak would be a great candidate for RMC Topper Track. Do that and reprofile the second and third hills to the original profile, remove the first drop trim, turn off the mid-course trim and reprofile the second part of the ride for more air time and thrills and Mean Streak would be a pretty decent ride with much lower maintenance costs.
