Maverick Update: May 2nd (Blog)

If I sing 99 bottles of beer on the wall 99 times, it should make opening day come faster. This will be my first opening day, and I can't wait any longer!

Im just guessing but I think the BIG surprise is that they are just going to show us that it has tested. They havent said anything about it testing and except for the people on here and other Fanatic websites nobody really knows it tested. Im know Im wrong but with my luck who knows?

Now I cant wait to ride because of the whole tunnel surprise thing! Now thats all Im intrested in.;)

I think water in the tunnel is an absolutely horrible idea and very unlikely.

LOL I agree! What kind of water effect could possibly be used? Are they thinking of fog as a water effect? That is the only possile use of water.
Maybe they are going to fill the whole tunnel with water and have a waterfall coming down the tunnel exit! (sarcasm)

It probably be along the lines of what they used for Iron Dragon with the water mist.

Caitlin

How would water mist in a dark tunnel be that exciting? I don't think this is what we should expect.

Wow, I thought people would actually like that idea. Oh well.

The surprise is live horses.... lots of live horses running all around the ride area... The kids can even go into the low zones and feed them... It's a great way to incorporate big time thrills with family fun!

EDIT: ;)

^ Not a bad Idea, but it training the horse to ignore the trains when they zoom by could be a challenge

Yeah... I'm sure PETA wouldn't like the idea either... Dang... well maybe the surprise is that the trains we have been seeing in pictures are not going to be the actual trains... in reality... they are going to be Steeple Chase trains. Can you imagine 95 degrees on one of these??

Can you sense the sarcasm?

I would just be happy if this ride is fat people friendly unlike Millenium and TTD (stupid seatbelts!). Besides, when has anyone heard of a fat person falling out of a ride??? Make the skinny stick people wear fat people suits to ride!

At least a few people have.

And here's the S:ROS report

While investigators found "no apparent mechanical defects," it says that Six Flags workers should have denied the victim access to the ride because his large girth prevented his lap bar restraint from fitting firmly against his thighs. The victim was 5-foot-2 and weighed about 230 pounds.

So that's at least 2 instances of large people falling out of rides.

Goodbye MrScott

John

Back to the discussion of what the surprise in the tunnel could be. I doubt it will be anything to do with water. Why make it dangerous down there with all that electrical work.

For some reason I keep thinking it will be a sound perhaps, or a light show. For the sound I am thinking maybe the sound of horses galloping as you near the tunnel exit, which would be a nice effect. As far as lighting goes, chasing lights can give the illusion that you are going much faster than it seems.

I personally think the lighting idea is more plausible because being in a dark tunnel you don't see yourself going fast, so why not put lights in to make it seem that way. On the other hand though, lighting would not fit in well with the Maverick theme, and the sound of galloping horses would have to be very loud to overpower the sound of the train accellerating.

So overall I have no idea what it is, but that was my two-cents.

There is no surprise. They just tell you that and then when you ride your "surprised" that there wasnt anything to be "surprised" about. ;)

What was REALLY funny was that the lady was laughing at him the whole time.

Good thing that 3rd chin was there....whew!

Ride on, MrScott!

^^^^ In a dark tunnel stationary lights would work just as well. Put up some old style lantern type lights and as you speed up you notice the lights whipping by you faster and faster giving you a nice sense of acceleration.

It would be neat if the tunnel looked something like this in relation to the walls and lighting:
