I think they have settled on the scenery that they currently have, and I don't see them adding anything new 7 years after it opened.
The original animation had more canyon work. It would be nice to see themeing in the tunnel turned back on at least. Having the head chopper that the conveyor would have added at the bottom of the first drop would have been awesome. I just wish the restraints weren't crap. If only all trains were made by B&M.
I know you shouldn't need a specific technique to make a ride comfortable, but if you keep your head against the headrest and hold the shoulder restraint, Maverick gives one of the best rides in the park.
I've always wondered if it would be possible to replace the old style restraints with the new Intamin lapbars. The trains look almost identical except for the restrains.
I think if there's inversions on a ride, it requires an OTSR.

No, it doesn't require anything. Those two restraints are exactly the same: They secure you by your thighs. The things over your shoulder are for decoration. They don't restrain you at all.

See Blue Fire, Helix, Full Throttle, Superman: Ultimate Flight (SFDK), Montezooma's Revenge, Sooperdooperlooper, Goliath (SFGAm), Iron Rattler, Medusa Steel Coaster, Nefeskesen, Flight of Fear, Scorpion, Outlaw Run... I could go on and on. There are many coasters that have inversions and lap bars. The coaster I got that pic from actually has inversions (Altair CCW-0204). In fact, pretty much every manufacturer is only using lapbars on all their new coasters except B&M.

If they wanted to keep the same style, the newish I-305 restraints are infinitely better. They used to be the same style as Maverick (http://lh5.ggpht.com/_IEgdqntViTs/S7Viy9QUDYI/AAAAAAAAADU/QcuZNfqpG...C_0550.jpg), but then they replaced the hard shoulder straps with softer straps like Gatekeeper, and it makes a world of difference.

If they were actually able to replace the otsr with just a lap bar, imagine what a great ride it would be. Your top half would feel so free, and us shorties wouldn't have all the headbanging. If only. Although it looks like there are quite a few coasters with inversions that just have lap bars, sadly I've never been on one :( Maybe that's good because then I don't know what CP is missing with many of their painful restraints.
