The current "upper body support" is for decoration. It really does very little to keep you in place. The lap bar is what primarily keeps you pinned in your seat.

I'm sure the shoulder restraints will be changed to the I-305 style once they wear more and get closer to their replacement cycle.
Like others have said, if I was Intamin, I'd pass on the soft shoulder strap option free or at cost to Cedar Point. I'd want every one of my products on the market to be their best to encourage future sales.
Nobody's ever fallen out of this coaster:
despite only using lap bars...and the lap bars on Greezed Lightnin are far less securing than Maverick's.

"Sorry, but our computer programs never told us we would have to take out one of the ride's signature elements. We'll be removing that now. Your blockbuster ride debut will be delayed"
"Sorry, but we couldn't design boats that fit our water ride for you correctly, even though a high school-level shop class could do that job correctly. Capacity is going to go way down, and, oh....remember Maverick? Hehe...see. here's the thing...your blockbuster debut is going to be delayed"
Say...can we get some free new restraints for Maverick for all the crap you have put us through?
Yea...sounds fair.
All that said, I have also never had an issue. They do feel "bulky" and restrictive though.
Promoter of fog.
How do you know they haven't already been compensated.

I'm sure it's been brought up before, but with the recent announcement of Copperhead Strike...

Why can't Maverick get these restraints? Makes no sense. The restraints on Maverick ruin the ride.
^Didn't you hear? CP has only one good coaster. Proof, as shown on this site:
Magnum is horribly rough and should be replaced with a B&M Hyper
Steel Vengeance can't run at full capacity, AND TEH PHONEZ!!11
Millennium Force has no forces, and is really boring.
Maverick is missing its in-line twist, and the restraints totally ruin the ride.
Top Thrill Dragster is a maintenance nightmare, and the Fastlane (brought to you by Takis) makes the lines too long.
Rougarou bangs your head way too much entering the brake run.
Gatekeeper's shake has become way too violent.
Raptor's entrance to the brake run is way too violent.
ValRavn doesn't have a splashdown nor tunnel, so what's the point?
Gemini is out-dated and boring, and seldom runs both sides.
Corkscrew is simply awful.
Iron Dragon - enough said.
Blue Streak is too bumpy.
PipeScream isn't a roller coaster.
CCMR runs only 3 of its original 5 trains, the ride is terrible, and the restraints are even worse.
Wilderness Run requires a small child to ride.
Wicked Twister's belts are way too tight, so larger guests can't ride at all.
Which leaves... the only good roller coaster at Cedar Point: Woodstock's Express.

Ruin the ride? Give me a break.
The new restraints are a huge improvement, and Maverick is one of the most popular rides in the park, and regarded as among the best coasters anywhere.
You're the one always wanting to reference ridership. Maverick doesn't make the top five...
https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog/fun-ride-information
just sayin'. I'm not trying to be a complaining enthusiast, but who wouldn't agree that taking the shoulder restraints away would make it FAR better.
Maverick doesn't make the top five because it has significantly lower PPH capacity than those that do make the top five.
Magnum can run three trains with a walk on or station wait and still have much higher ridership than Maverick with a constant 60-120 minute wait. Maverick just can't keep up with the capacity even with a great crew.

Makes no sense as a lower capcity just means that it runs later after closing to empty the line. Everyone who wants to ride Maverick will ride Maverick.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
^Not really, lines self-limit to some extent. The longer a line is, the more people might skip it for being long.
If the same amount of people want to ride Ride A and Ride B, and Ride B has half the capacity, Ride B would take 24 hours to put through the same number of people Ride A puts through in an 12-hour day. Clearly, this doesn’t happen with, say, Maverick or Dragster vs. Magnum or Gatekeeper, even though the former two rides are often just as attractive to GP or possibly even more so.
“I want to ride this” isn’t the only thing that goes into a decision to ride.
It was never the over the shoulder part of Maverick’s restraints that I didn’t like - it was the lap bar portion that would get progressively tighter throughout the ride that had my thighs screaming by the end. Never really bothers me during the ride, but sitting on the final brakes waiting to get off can be very uncomfortable. Still in my top 3 at the park, depending on my mood and the day :)
