Mantis removal or transformation?

What exactly is land occupied by water?

I see what I did there....and like it.

Fixed it for you.

Thanks but you made an error there as I wasn't hinting as it being a coincidence, that's just your assumption. And you know what happens when people assume things.:)

honestly it's hard for me to imagine mantis going floorless next year. floorless coasters have been around for almost as long as stand up coasters. CP doesn't really go for older things. they stay with the new rides. which makes me think the 2015/2016 could be a completely new coaster rarely seen. Maybe the S&S 4D coaster with some flat rides ? like a Gotham city like area. But honestly, I can see that land as a huge record breaking coaster. Remember Tony said there's a science to everything. They didn't win best park which they have for the past 17 years, and there new coaster could be their 17th and win it back for them. remember there's a science to everything behind Tonys think. Could we possibly be seeing a 500'? 😊

The date everyone talks abt, when does the NBA start its season ? Maybe thats a clue w the return of King James to Cleveland. They did say they would namea coaster if he come back. After losing best amusement park, they will have to pick it up to get it back. Maybe if they reconfigure one and build a new one it will be cheaper and a way to do both. Just saying, not a coaster pro like many of you, just my thoughts.

I thought of that too. But the Cavs start preseason on October 5th. They have a preseason game on October 17th and 20th (which sandwich the closing date for Mantis). And finish the preseason on October 22nd with the regular season starting on October 30th. So none of those dates really work.

Maybe the idea is to close Mantis on October 19th and then re-open it with some type of Lebron based name the following weekend (Friday or Saturday the 24th/25th depending on if they run it on Fridays) which is the weekend before the NBA regular season starts?

Doesn't seem to really fit with some of the other clues but at this point who knows.

"200...310....420...530???"
Glad I'm not the only one!!

Don't mind the fact that the first hyper coaster was actually 205' (Magnum XL-200)...

Well then...205...310...420...540!!! ;) (I don't really think a 500-footer is coming to Sandusky.)

Loving Maverick since 2007!

Has anyone seen the Laff Trak @ Hershey Park video? I thought that was exactly what we were getting when it came to a dark ride.

It looks awesome

I really hope they remove Mantis all together. Converting it a sit down would be alright but nothing spectacular or nothing to brag about. I know Tony and the CP crew have a plan and I hope it caters to the guests. I honestly think CP needs and S&S 4D coaster and it would go perfect in that location. They need something innovative and completely different in the lineup. This kind of ride would have crowds on edge because its so different. Six Flags isn't afraid to purchase these coasters and as a coaster enthusiast it makes me want to travel else where to ride them. Wake up CP management and bring the fire and excitement back to the park as you did in the early and mid 2000's

Watched some videos of The Green Lantern 4D coaster the other day and saw a lot of comments about it being painful. Dinoconda on the other hand looks like it could be fun if all of the rotating doesn't make you dizzy / sick.

Your observations were and are still anecdotal. You should probably look that word up sometime.

Yea something similar to "Dinoconda" would be incredible. Its getting really good reviews and riders seem to love it. That would be an epic new edition and a coaster to make Cedar Point unlike the rest with that in the park. Ah if only these dreams became a reality.

yup

Question: How do you explain the actions of millions of people who wait hours upon hours to be dropped down a hill?

Answer: You don't...

That's a really nice view of Mantis' layout and it's surrounding landscape! I feel even stronger about it leaving, after looking at this image... It just doesn't belong in that spot and can't see that structure being recycled within the park, only to give CP a subpar addition according to today's standards! There is no way that CP is gonna do something that's 10 years too late, then say to everybody... This is the future of CP and this is what CP is all about? Would welcome the conversion, but CP is one of CF's 3 million plus parks, not a 1.5 million or less park!

You could tell Mantis was "squeezed" into that spot. It's the only coaster at the park that overlaps another coaster (Iron Dragon). Especially looking at the above picture, what Wishful Thinker said, it just doesn't look right.

Ride Warrior

WishfulThinker83, a part of me hopes you're right and I'd love to see CP do something that is mind-blowing in that space. But for some reason I can't help but still feel that a conversion is in the works.

As a floorless / seated coaster it may not be the latest and greatest thrill machine but if it is even remotely enjoyable I think it will be a solid performer for years to come. Plus, if the change the second half of the track and do something interesting with it (maybe a launch onto Millennium Island) it might make the experience a lot more thrilling. But then that obviously would drive up the cost too.

In the end I guess it will be about how CP wants to invest their resources and what they want to accomplish. If they remove Mantis then they must want that space for something. If they convert it, then I think their mission was to address the complaints of what many consider to be a punishing ride.

I'd like for CP to take a bold approach but I'm leaning toward them being more practical. Who knows though...maybe they'll be somewhere in between and Mantis will be transformed into something that we haven't even imagined yet.

You kids have no idea. It wasn't squeezed into that spot. Dragster and Millennium Force didn't even exist, and Giant Wheel was sitting where the MF queue is now. There was plenty of room to do whatever they wanted to do.
