Mantis Future

Moving into the realm of pure opinion... a B&M at MiA strikes me as about as likely as a B&M at Knoebel's. It seems like too "big" of a coaster for the park.

MiA is within 20 minutes of where my parents live, it's a park I visit fairly often and a park I enjoy. (I'm even old enough to remember when the park was named Deer Park Funland, and petting deer was the main attraction...)

Granted, Holiday World is introducing not only a B&M in 2015, but the first launched B&M Wing coaster, but Holiday World is also aggressively expanding the scope of the park. (Within -- 5? or was it 10? -- years Thunderbird will be at the center of the park, not at the farthest point of the park.)

I've heard that some people think they're not going to be getting rid of it, or moving it. I also think it's kind of funny how in the last Merry Christmas from Cedar Point, Tony just randomly stood at the lift hill of Mantis.

The announcement said "goodbyes are never easy... In this case it is."

To me, this is the park admitting the ride has not lived up to expectations. The ride is a dud. A gimmick. The layout is not.

If the park is saying it won't be hard to say goodbye, why would they move it to another park?

Transformation. Even Jeff thinks so, and I highly regard his opinion.

I'm 99% positive it's gone..It follows trends with prior announcements..Where it goes after it leaves the peninsula, I couldn't tell you.

I'm not sure how a "dud" ride sticks around for nigh on 20 years, nor how enjoyment of the layout is changed by the position of the riders.

Perhaps the park is saying "it won't be hard to say goodbye" because it's a good angle for a promo piece?

Does anyone else think the best part of the announcement was Tony crying?

Cedar Point + Kings Island = Heaven

I agree. Tony's "crying" was hilarious.

That was pretty good, total drama queen acting there, but fantastic for the vid haha. Between him or Mr Short, I enjoyed seeing both of them, made me have a slight chuckle.

Absolutely. That was award-winning acting on Tony's part.

(I'm just not saying which award..... :) )

The "hard to say goodbye, but in this case it is" comment to me means that whatever is coming to take the place of Mantis is so good that Mantis won't be missed.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

When did he say that?

Do you like standing when you go to the movies or sitting? Do you like sitting while driving your car or standing? I could go on forever.

Bottom line- sitting is more comfortable than standing.

^ What about stand-up comedy? :)

Anyway, it looks as though twilight is descending on stand-up coasters...apparently, the last stand-up coaster to be constructed was Georgia Scorcher, at Six Flags Over Georgia in 1999.

Stand up comedy is great- but I prefer to sit while watching.

Ok correct me if I'm wrong, but Mantis is leaving and they announced NOTHING to replace it yet?

Damn.

I never saw it either, but Susan Glaser, our lovely reporter quoted him as saying so in her most recent article. I didn't see a quote here regarding it, so I'm guessing an email/IM/phone convo involved that.

What does that have to do with the layout of the ride? If the ride is dull/terrible/boring/rough/what have you, changing the position you experience the ride in doesn't change the dull/terrible/boring/rough/what have you layout.

If I'm riding a coaster designed as a stand up coaster, than I like riding it standing up, the way it was designed to be enjoyed.

This is one of the most confusing announcements. And that's just what they want.

^^This isn't the announcement...

Wow people are easily confused and fooled.

Stay tuned, that's what they want..follow now, the last day, and possibly after for the actual full announcement.

I see no "new for '15" on CP's website yet, you better believe once '15 is fully announced it'll be there and everywhere else. Why market '15 on just Youtube & Twitter, that's stupid. Right now their marketing strategy is golden. They're ganna get two to three articles out of this whole thing and buzz each time and possibly from start to finish, it's perfect.
