Magnum policy change?

My sister and I were at the park yesterday and found out that apparently there is a new policy on Magnum. We were told by the guy working the entrance that we couldn't take anything on that wasn't strapped to us like a waist pouch.(No souvenir bottles.) He told us that they got rid of the bins. Having just been at the park on Friday, I know for a fact the bins were still there as we used them. However, I did notice when we got up to the platform that the bins were at the far end of the station with the part that opens facing the wall. So, my question is, are they really getting rid of the bins on Magnum?

Gosh, I hope not.

I'm hoping not too, but as of yesterday they weren't using the bins.

I don't think this is happening (but I wasn't there to see). Why would ANY park get rid of ANY platform bins? The only reason I can think of is to drive down ridership. If people think their valuables will not be secure while on the ride, they simply won't ride.

Then how do you explain consistently-long lines at MF?

Brandon

Magnum is a great coaster, but it doesn't compare to MF. Plus there are lockers closer to MF than Magnum (as far as I can remember). Those would be the two reasons I can come with.

I guess they wouldn't be deliberately driving down ridership, but it may be a cause/effect thing.

Actually, Magnum has always had higher ridership than MF, at least through 2008, which I believe is when they stopped providing ridership data.

The bins on Magnum caused chaotic traffic flow in the station. Also, some people just seemed to stroll to the bin and back to the train like they had all the time in the world. I've seen the trains stop on the safety brakes outside of the tunnel enough to know the bins affected operations in a negative way. If it is true that the bins are gone, GREAT MOVE on the part of the park!

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

The bins are still in the station, they're just pushed to the far end with the opening facing the wall. Which I guess means that they are more than likely on the way out. Not that I mind that, I'll just rent a locker and put my stuff in it.

If I were to take bins out of one ride, it would be Maverick and not Magnum.

I'll take whatever we can get. Count me in favor of more lockers and less bins.

Agreed. More stuff flies out of pockets on Magnum than on any other coaster at CP (it seems to me). I have had a couple of near-misses while at Soak City.

Hopefully Maverick is next to lose the bins.

I like the bins. You guys realize you will now have to pay for lockers without bins?

Yeah right. Maverick's interval time is so long to the point where those bins do not create that big of a problem for the train to be dispatched at interval

I don't use the bins or pay for lockers. I don't carry all my "stuff" with me. I am diabetic and carry what I need in cargo pockets or keep in the car. The walk to the parking lot is good exercise. And some of you could use the exercise.

Good riddance to those bins! Now maybe they can get the 25% ridership numbers they lost since they were installed. I look forward to seeing them be able to hit interval again and not set up (stack all three trains) dozens and dozens of times per day as has been the norm since the bins appeared. Hope to see them ditch the bins at Maverick, Raptor, and all the other rides where they slow things down tremendously. Even if logistically those rides are better able to handle the bins than Magnum, they should do it for consistency. :)

I'd wager to bet that ridership will increase big time. Some people might be annoyed and walk away, but the wait will be shorter and the number of people riding per hour, per day, and over the season will increase.

This is nice for those riding; it is always crazy on that side with the bins. But this news is also annoying to me because we usually hit Magnum up as a quick last ride of the night on our way out to the back parking lot, so of course we have some stuff with us that's no longer in a locker. I guess we will no longer be doing this, and will have to ride earlier in the day when we have a locker. Magnum at night is one of my favorite rides though!

I really doubt there will be a noticeable difference in the wait times do to the lack of bins. I hate myself for saying this next sentence because it will start a huge argument again. The possible removal of bins will probably have just the same if not less of an impact than FL does. More than likely it will be less of an impact. They will never get back to the old capacity because people are way more distracted now them they were back then. I really hope this change is not permanent as it has very little up side.
