Magnum policy change?

Life comes with all kinds of encumbrance, I don't know why people add to it by choice.

I don't follow on this. Most people have money, a phone, and often car keys on them, which are all valuables. I'd say make sure you can secure all of your valuables on yourself and leave anything else you have with you in a locker or with a non-rider.

I should clarify... not money, your phone or car keys, obviously. Valuable things (whatever that means to you) that don't fit in pockets that require being left in a bin.

While I, too, try to take only my cell phone, wallet, and car keys into the park (and then store them in a cargo pocket), I'll occasionally bring in a drawstring bag with some other items, like sunscreen, hand sanitizer, granola bars (shhh!), etc. In that instance, I rely on the bins.

I can understand not offering bins on rides where the entrance and exit are in different places, or on very popular rides that demand the most efficient operations, but I wouldn't say that Magnum falls into either of those two categories... So I'm confused why Magnum's bins would be removed.

GK was built with bins just last year (and doesn't Pipe Scream have some sort of loose article storage setup, too?), so it seems weird that the park would be suddenly reversing its course on them.

As someone else said, I'd hate to see CF start strict policing of loose articles on the station platforms like SF did just a few years ago. Station-side bins aren't a perfect system, but I feel they're cheaper and far more convenient for guests than lockers.

To the "I only carry my keys, card, and phone" crowd, keep in mind that you're fortunate to not have legitimate needs for other things, like medicine, sunscreen, etc. You should try to keep in mind that not everyone is as fortunate as you.

And yet when permitted to board with it (at WDW), you take your camera gear. By choice, presumably. :)

I am part of the "I only carry by keys, card and phone" crowd. I am also diabetic and it still all fits in my pockets--with room to spare.

I understand trying to minimize what comes into the park with you, but I don't understand the smug "holier than thou because I carry less" vibe I always get from the anti-bin crowd.

So, now we're not only judged for our coaster and ride counts, but how little we can survive on in our pockets? Am I going to show up one day to find someone in a bright yellow shirt emblazoned with stick on letters, proudly proclaiming empty pockets?

People are different. People need different things to get them through the day. People get enjoyment out of having different things with them (cameras, phones, iPads for parade photography, etc..) - it's part of being out in public with other people, not everyone is going to have the same plan of action and that's perfectly OK.

I can store stuff in cargo pockets, if they have bins though I'd rather place my keys and stuff in the bin, can't hurt to be extra safe. No bins, fine I'll use cargo pockets, but bins are def. convenient IMO.

Well, I need a basketball that I carry around with me. No, make that TWO basketballs, which I bounce alternatively while waiting in line. When I get to a ride platform, I try to roll them to the bins to impress my friends.

People are different, sure. Unfortunately, many people are also stupid. I appreciate any attempts by the park to keep the stupid people from ruining the experience for everyone else.

I'm not saying everyone should carry nothing with them except what fits in their pockets, but there is certainly a balance between the two extremes.

We are judged for our coaster and ride counts? I was hoping we would be judged by height. :)

I'm amused by a lot of it. Yeah, nobody needs to win a basketball or a stuffed animal, but I bet the shareholders are happy when someone plays enough to win. Aren't the shareholder's dividend payments what we use to judge the quality of a Cedar Point visit? I forget.

Sure, there's a balance between the extremes, but the anti-bin crew wants the balance to be more in their favor. Obviously, basketballs are ridiculous, but what if someone buys a shirt and/or something else on their way out to the car or back to the hotel room, that fits in a small plastic bag, but they decide they want to take advantage of a short line on Magnum before they walk out the gate?

Or, what about the person who gets paranoid they might lose their phone, or doesn't trust that particular pocket or something and decides to leave it in the bin for the ride? Do you make them take it with them and risk it flying out?

It's a fine balance.

I don't care if people have basketballs or not. The park has games of skill intended to give them away as major revenue centers. If I wanted to go somewhere that people with basketballs weren't, I'd find a different hobby.

Ultimately everyone wants things in their favor and they generally don't like to have to adjust for their recreation. This is probably why Disney and Universal are as beloved as they are, even when they charge crazy money for entry. If it fits in the mesh seat front pocket, you can take it on a multi-inversion roller coaster at Disney.

I have one big grip with the whole anti-bin crowd, their solution is wear clothing with cargo pockets. If the way around not using a bin requires having to wear a specific pair of pants then that is not a very good solution. The main reason I like bins is because it encourages people to playing games and buying merchandise while in the park by given them a "safe" place to store their stuff. Also it has such a small impact on wait times that it is not noticeable.

But cargo shorts are so stylish and trendy, who wouldn't want to wear them?

I still don't understand why CP doesn't have free lockers available for the amount of time the line is estimated.

Because that wouldn't be a smart business decision.
