Magnum Memories

I closed out last night with 3 trips on Magnum, probably the best time I have ever had on it (maybe it was the Valravn IPA?). I noticed the trims were "off", and we were literally flying back to the station after the pretzel. So I was wondering about a few things and was hoping someone here who knows the subject can answer a couple questions.

Are the trims ever really off, or are they always on in some way, just to a lesser degree?

When do they typically run it with with the trims off? Is it based on temperature and other conditions?

CandyMan, I worked Magnum three different years- 2007, 2008 and was Team Leader in 2010 :) I'm sure we've met :)

Operative, the trims can be turned completely off manually in the control booth for a variety of different reasons: empty or mostly empty trains, wind, low temps, etc. Throughout the day maintenance will also adjust them slightly to get the trains to come back at the perfect 60-second mark.

CPVet - we probably have. I was still going often back then. I am the one with the Magnum tattoo and crazy colored hair. Was always there first thing in the morning and then last train at night. Did you work HalloWeekends in '08? I proposed to my wife in late Sept on Magnum's lift.

Sometimes when seeing maintenance by the third hill, I would yell, "It's fine, leave it alone!". :)

One time I was riding with a friend and we were the only two people on the train and they forgot to turn trims off. We thought for sure we weren't going to make it back! The train crept back over every hill.

When I was a kid we stayed in the same room at Breakers for the first week of August two years in a row. We were in the Bon Aire section, first floor on the tower, which had the absolute best view of Magnum. The distant sound of the train engaging and heading up the lift elicits a nostalgic response from me rivaled by few other things.

Arrow lifts certainly have a distinguishable sound. Morris code like. Magnum might just be the loudest of them thinking about it.

Not sure when they padded everything during the first season, but before they did, Magnum reminded me of a giant Blue Streak. The seats were so slick that you flew all over the place. Only problem was the lap bar. I think we had bruises and were only able to ride it once on the second day of our two day trip because the bars had made us so sore. It was worth it, though.
