Loudest coaster

I never heard anything about Mantis at one point being designed with a portion indoors.

As for Maverick's supports, I wonder if that is because of it's proximity to Lighthouse Point and Camper Village.

How would anyone at LHP or CV hear Maverick over Maggie's lift? :)

Someone mentioned (as in someone at the park) that it was also to facilitate some measure of durability.

Working in Challenge Park, my vote is for Magnum because of the lift hill and Dragster because of the launch and train going up the hill. Those are just the two that made working back there hell sometimes. Mantis is certainly the loudest in-ride coaster, though.

LHP is closer to Maverick than to Maggie...but Mean Streak has to factor in there as well. Jeff's explanation makes more sense. I suppose you can make the case that Maverick is more exposed to the elements (with the proximity to the Sandusky Bay) than Mantis/Raptor.

Speaking of TTD, I love the remix of "Arms Down" that gets played over and over...even when the train is empty...

There are construction pictures showing the process of filling Mavericks supports. I know that coaster is pretty quiet..especially in between runs on Mean Streak.

Which begs the question, what is the deciding factor on filling or not filling the supports with sand?

I have to agree about Raptor, it sounds pretty loud to me on the midway, but Mantis, that is probably the loudest.

Jeff said:Intamin does not automatically fill supports with sand. Maverick is the only one of the four at Cedar Point that does. The only other one I can think of that I've personally been on that did elsewhere was Storm Runner at Hersheypark.

I never really meant "automatically", just that they more recently started filling the supports with sand. In fact the only Intamin coasters I know of that have sand filled supports are Storm Runner (their first sand filled coaster), Maverick, Fahrenheit, Stealth, Desert Race, Kirnu (zacpin), and Piraten (mega lite). Of course when it comes down to it, it's up to the park to make the decision.

Well, yeah, sort of. Part of LHP is closer to Maverick, but you've also got a giant wooden structure deflecting most of that sound. There are no such structures blocking the sound coming from Magnum, which is definitely closer to CV than is Maverick.

But yeah, the vibration factor as it relates to durability seems far more likely.

Back in the day, my in-laws had a camper over at Bay Point- which is that big piece of land across the bay (to your left when you're going up the lift on Mean Streak). Way over there, you could regularly hear the train whistles from morning 'till close. In the evening when the lake settled down, we used to be able to sit around a fire and I could hear (and narrate the path of MANTIS by sound: from the drop to the loop to the twists). It's distinct. Also, in later years, you could hear the "engine whine" from the launch on Dragster (not the revving).

I miss those days.

I wounder what it would sound like if you only filled every other support with sand on a coaster like Mantis? The same or some wierd noise?

i dont know about you peeps but i can tell when Maggie is on TV from the other room just by the sound of her lift hill. very distinctive. wouldnt be the same without it.

Mantis is DEFINETLY the loudest ride there. it also wouldnt be the same without thst roar. Raging Bull at SFGAm is a quiet B&M and it just doesnt SEEM like a B&M because of that...

I would have to say Mantis is the loudest to me, when I had my video camera out across the bay filming the park, the only ride's that you could hear were the railroad, and Mantis. My camera picked up the trains whistle, and just bearly the roar of Mantis.

I personally think that Raptor is rather loud. Dragster is pretty loud too. When staying at Sandcastle, I can usually hear it from my room when on the patio. Magnum has a crazy loud lift also.

Anyone else find WildCat rather loud? When it goes through that helix at the end, it rattles and gets loud. Also it's loud when you're waiting in line in that side area as a train goes by.

Overall, Mean Streak. Not just loud, painful too. Not much fun anymore.

Avalanch Run was very loud an annoying. I stood next to it for an entire summer. I was glad they enclosed it.

I'd say TTD with sound effects, it gets pretty loud.

Without I'd say Raptor, I swear that first incline sounds like a ton of gunshots.

i think the loudest thing is the lift hil on Maginum. when we stay at breakers, my fiance stands on the balcony and listens to it. i think it lulls him to sleep lol. now i know waht to play to help him sleep. CDS of all the coasters running at CP. he could probably pick them out by sound and tell me which ones they are

I too always thought the lift hill on Magnum was the loudest because you can't talk to your friends when your going up it, you have to shout at them.. same thing with Raptor.

I've never rode Mantus (not sure if my legs can handle it, so I can't compare that to other coasters).
