Live Web Cams

I suppose I can get used to it, but it was nice to gauge the size of the crowd. Guess I was spoiled like others.

Chris

It definitely was neat to look out Dragster Cam and see how packed the parking lot was. Oh well, it was neat while it lasted. :)

All they need to do is tilt the one facing south up a little and we will be able to see the lot. It was much clearer than the TTD cam when in view last week one day. I wonder how many people used to use the TTD cam for the same purpose. Everyone I know that frequents the park multiple times did the same thing, use it to gauge the crowd size. Just tilt it up please. :-)

unless they use the live webcam to see/show the entire GateKeeper(which then provides a good view of the parking lot)more often,no sense in round-tripping using 2 1/2 hours of travel time and 6-7 gallons of gas just to take a chance there might be a small crowd.
Granted their view of the entire main midway shows amount of crowd, but parking lot view is better.
less visits means money saved for candy(energy input)at the shops and for midway market, and for ice cream.

I don't understand why the parking lot view is being eliminated. Maybe the non season passers are staying home instead of buying a fast lane pass?

Well this ends our spur of the moment trips. I can spend the money I would have spent on gas and dinner in the park on something else like going to a movie. I'll stick to Sunday morning ERT and bail if the park gets too crowded and eat lunch on the way home.

You guys are ridiculous. I too enjoyed looking at that view and as a fan of the park, I like to see the lot full and the park doing well. I'd never let it stop me from making a trip. If I lived close I'd probably often go in the evenings and catch a couple rides and watch Luminosity, maybe get something to eat. I would not really think to look at a webcam and say, "welp - looks like there are more than three rows of cars in the lot, so I will just continue sitting here on my computer rather than going to the park."

I go up 30+ times per year that is hardly sitting behind my computer. The parking lot cam allows us to avoid overly crowded visits during the heavier part of the season. I won't go up if I know the park is packed and I know how busy it will be based on how full the lot is.

It's not about staying away from the park if there are more than 3 rows of cars in the lot, it's about staying away if there are only 3 empty rows in the parking lot.

^^^agree,I'm still gonna have plenty of visis to CP,and me avoiding the packed days is NOT gonna effect their bottom line.

About the defunct parking lot cam: Google Earth gives a great view. The question is how often the image is updated...anyone know?

Obviously less than yearly. I don't see Gatekeeper.

Wait, you want to use Google Earth, something that uses satellite images, in order to judge the parking lot fillage? Come on.

Um, full resolution satellite imagery that was updated throughout the day would be highly useful to measure crowds and parking lot fill levels. Just don't expect access to that for free, from Google.

But that's the point. Nobody is pointing a satellite at Cedar Point just to take pictures of a ****ing parking lot every hour.

No but satellites constantly map the globe whether you believe it or not.

The Google pic is close to two years old. I would not expect anyone to point a satellite at a parking lot for me to judge crowds but since the park was already pointing a camera at it I don't see why they couldn't just keep on pointing one.

Maybe if you are like besties with Chloe O'Brien that could be arranged. ;)

Dammit Matt, there's not enough time.

Immunity isn't on the table.

But your hand is.

I looked yesterday, and they still have the Pagoda cam, and the front gate cam hanging in the park, they just aren't using them.

Anybody know of any hidden way to get to the still cams? I'd like to see the parking lot crowds of today through Saturday so I can try to make a guess as to how crowded it will be on Sunday when I plan to go. I'd guess the park would be super crowded today through Saturday and not too crowded on Sunday. The parking lot cams would be able to help me guess better.
