also a can opener for your food!
I have heard a few things about microwaves. Are they allowed in the dorms or aren't they? Do you know?

Wouldn't do you any good because there's no connection in the rooms to plug into. Wifi is in the lounges of each building, but there are no wired ports to plug into anywhere. If anything a wireless repeater would be more useful if you had a friend living between the lounge and your room set it up. Some of the rooms closest to the lounges are lucky enough to be able to get wifi in their room.

Yea. It's going to be right next to commons dorms where East of Chicago Pizza used to be.
I don't know how I haven't heard of this... but this totally just made my day.

Alright, thanks. :)

I would second the wireless repeater...There's a netgear one for about 60 bucks or so...Af anything, get a mobile hotspot from some sort of Wireless Data Carrier...or just upgrade your phone & get an android or something that has a way to tether internet or act as a wifi hotspot...My rooted evo is going to be my source for internet while I'm there....Thank God for 2.3 android w/ free mobile hotspot lols..If anyone else has the evo, just do it :P
Also to this I would add:
Bag to carry stuff to & from your location wherever you're working to hold normal stuff (lunch, sunglasses, ect.)
Possible bag to carry shower amenities and clothes/ect...I don't think you want to be carrying shampoo, conditioner, clothes, towel, ect. in your hands to & from anywhere lol
Foam pad for the plastic mattresses
Laundry detergent for washing clothes
Water bottle
I may add more, that's what's on my head as we speak
i would not bring a bike because you wont have very much to ride it and you cant ride it to work... unless you work at DQ :) which is very close to commons

You also won't need a trash can or a lamp if you are going to live in the dorms at least. =]
As far as wireless I have a Droid 2 global on an Unlimited Data Plan with Verizon. Does that work as a wireless hotspot to power my Mac? Im assuming you know the answer to this Ralph or Devarious?

You won't have a wireless hotspot off the bat, that's an extra charge through verizon. You can however root your phone which means you can admin and set up everything on it. This will void your warranty however, but if you root it, you'll understand how your phone works, so if anything breaks you'll be good. That's the one option you have
You can download PdaNet, and tether via usb/bluetooth to any computer. It is free on your phone too. You also will need to download the program to your computer to tether the connection. The only problem with this is you have 30 days unlimited access...After that any secure website will be blocked (online banking, any form of login..hence no facebook, ect.) But...people who are smart and know computers...Just uninstall it, and delete purge the registry of anything PdaNet related. So every 30 days, I just have to do that and reinstall :P
If you're going to try to use the wireless repeater to increase the range of the housing wifi I would STRONGLY urge against that.....if you get caught doing that you may incur disciplinary action. (notice I said IF you get caught). What I would strongly suggest is to either 1. root your phone and/or tether...or 2. pick up a mobile hotspot (either prepaid or through verizon). I can say with quite certainty that 4g will be in the CP area this season (verizon anyhow).
I'm currently living in the housing and aside from the quota issue...I've had worse internet. The IT/IS team IS aware of the housing internet issues and I can say with 100% certainty they are working on it...however their resources are limited. Keep in mind you have over 1000 easily individuals/devices trying to use essentially a cable modem connection (which can range in speeds from 1.5mbps to 20mbps easily). Housing internet while on the backburner now....is being watched and attempted to run better....but resources are sadly low so be patient...or better yet pick up a mobile hotspot/tether.
EI
How is using a repeater bad...A repeater/extender literally just takes the existing WAP connection, duplicates it, and broadcasts it's info...It's literally like bringing the router closer to you..The only difference is you connect to a different MAC address initially, and it redirects your transmissions to the initial WAP
Also, their connection is a high speed connection (All of the computers running at CP can't run off of a cable speed...They def. have a Fiber line(s) running to CP...The problem is probably due to the hardware/amount of users/size of the infrastructure used...A small wifi hotspot connecting all of these people, through that one connection, no load balancing, no switches, ect...
Lastly for the 4G...I doubt it...and Verizon's 4GLTE is nothing lols...WiMAX is the way to go..4GLTE is laaame hahaha...But I live in Akron basically, & I've had the Evo 4g since it came out, I have yet to get 4G...Also 3G penetrates walls/everything easier so the 4G connection really won't be as good as the existing 3G connection that will be in the area...Also the further up on point, the worse the connection hahaha
