Lima News article

No kidding. For some reason anyone who posts something on a message board is some how thought to be a one-dimensional person who does nothing else. I don't know about your geeky ass, but mine has a job, wife, two cats and a passion for good parties.

And spending four years of my life in Ashland for college has made me despise living in rural areas more than ever (note that I define rural as more than 30 minutes to a major metropolitan area). I love my subdivision thank you very much.

We're very fortunate in the Cleveland and Akron areas beause it's so diverse. Flat land as far as the eye can see is monotonous and boring. What do I need flat land for? I'm not raising corn or cattle!

It's cool that I can have lunch in the middle of a national park while an old passenger train goes by passing the old canal locks. I can visit sandy beaches. I can get to four big-deal amusement parks in three hours or less. I can see Broadway-class theater. I can visit one of the best zoos in the country as well as several world-class museums. The list goes on...

Aside from winters here, Northeast Ohio is a pretty damn good place to live. It's on a short list of places I really dig (the others so far consiting of Columbus, portions of the Chicagoland area, Portland, Oregon and portions of the Baltimore-DC area).

I love the farmland and this part of the state. City livin is just not for me, I need my space. But Jeff, I'm sure if I was born and raised in your neck of the woods, I would more than likely share your opinion.

Lima isn't the worst place in the world, but it isn't world-class by any means. One plus it that they have a killer race track if your into that. But I cant really say a whole lot about where I live except we know how to party hard. Our county population is barely enough to fill one or two city blocks in Cleveland.

also, not to bash anyone and I hope no one thinks I am, but whats wrong with this thread? Sure this a CP site, but I don't see the big deal in talkin about something else once in a while. I'll sit at the super table with my wife and we will talk about our days at work every night but that's not the only thing there is to talk about at the table.

I intend to Live Forever! So far so good.

I live in the suburbs. It has certain advantages to living in the big city limits. For me, those big city limits would be Toledo. But, I live in Waterville; less than 5,000 people. Now, to get to those advantages.
1.Crime- Waterville has extremely low crime levels. I have never seen more than three crimes in the Saturday crime reports in the paper for Waterville.

2. Schools- The school system I'm in, Anthony Wayne (Go Generals!), is superior than Toledo city schools, which are in an academic emergency.

3.Cleanliness- Waterville is well kept town. 95% of it looks great. Toledo, on the other hand, has some pretty run down areas. The older part of downtown looks pretty bad. It could use a good restoration. Maybe Mayor Jack Ford should look into that; but he should probably work on the schools first.

Don't get me wrong, I like Toledo a lot, but the suburbs often times are the better places to live. If only Toledo could be improved.

So what's better; skydiving or riding in Raptor's front seat?

I live in the country and wouldn't want things any other way. I can drive a half an hour and buy whatever I need, see a Movie, cruise the town, but it's still only a city of 25,000 people. I leave there and I am in the middle of glourious farmland. It's how I like it.

I grew up partying out in the woods or at a frinds farm. We TPd people's houses, ran track and cross country, did our practice running down gravel roads, went to schol and occasionaly even drove our tractors to school. I wake up in the mornign and smell the country air which frankly smells like Cow crap, LOL, I graduated from high school with 54 people in my class, small yes, but I loved it.

You and I are from totally different worlds Jeff, thankfully on here that doesn't matter as we all have a common passion.

BTW Fordman I don't know if I consider Waterville a surburb, it really is a suburb of a suburb ;) Maumee that is.

Got news for you... our worlds aren't that different. We did all the same things here in the burbs growing up, save for driving our tractors to school.

I realize that Jeff but you know what I mean.

You want your city, I want my country, simple as that.

BTW My School was so small I had to go out of state for a girlfriend. Good thing Ohio is only 5 miles away. ;)

Jeff. What portions of the Chicagoland area do you dig? Just curious. :)
And no one has mentioned Mt. Vernon, Ohio? lol. I guess it does have charm, especially when compared to Mansfield, which was the closest "city" to me growing up. If I may use the popular analogy, say what you will about body parts relating to cities, but Mansfield is akin to melanoma....melanoma with a carousel.

Toledo IS ugly. On a purely aesthetic level, Toledo doesn't even remotely compare to half the cities in Ohio unless it's "reigning frogs."

As for Chicago, I have fond memories of Highland Park and Evanston. I have several friends from both areas.

rawr!

Fordman said:Anyone been to Waterville? It's that little place fifteen miles south of Toledo.

Yup! Rossford here! Did they take out Valmer's (sp) park? Thought about visiting that place a few times now.

I had some cousins in Waterville until they moved to Oak Harbor. I'm from Sylvania myself. Only a coupple of minutes west of Toledo.
