Lift type and location?

why cry about downtime?

It is certainly justifiable to complain about downtime. I want to ride Top Thrill Dragster but it's ALWAYS broken for me. I'm always there in June too. Not very late in the year. I'm sure those "few the proud the dragster fans" like 99er say it's still amazing. Unfortunately lots of us don't get to go more than one trip a year. It's a big letdown.

Sorry, I just had to vent. Anyway back on topic, the lift hill. My thing against launches isn't downtime, because everything breaks down sometimes. Didn't Magnum's chain break once. I remember being there but I was so young I can't be sure...1998/1999? My thing against launches is each kind seems similar. I can't tell much of a difference between Flight of Fear at Kings Island and Italian Job Stunt Track at Kings Island.

For me it would depend on the height of the ride. A spiral lift would make sense, but since I haven't seen this picture, I won't be sure. A chain couldn't go up a spiral though, or if it did it would fit very awkwardly and probably noisily. A cable or possibly sets of wheels could though.

It's all up in the air so I'm not going to try to figure out what it is, just narrow down things I don't think it will be.

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

The only thing I can tell you to do CP Tay Tay is pick the best day you can to go. As long as it's a nice day with no high winds and no rain, then I'm positive you'll be able to get a ride this year.

As for the lift.......well with the idea of Intamin possibly doing a prototype, I keep thinking: What if it involves pneumatics of somesort? For instance, an angled air launch lift into a series of sidewinding elements. I mean, I dont think Intamin has ever done a coaster that mainly involves pneumatics (not counting brakes)......or have they?

Im calling it now...

its gonna be a 4d ball coaster

just a thought

it'd be helpful if you put your thought in the proper thread.

just a thought. :)

I just really don't want to see another rocket. Honestly, I just don't find them as interesting as a traditional life coaster. Why? how long is the ride time on TTD? 15 something seconds. How long on Xcelerator? 62 seconds. I would rather have a traditional 2 something minute long ride with the fun of riding up the lift hill, than being on a ride for 1 minute and not feeling like it was at all worth waiting in what will be an ungodly long line.

^I completely agree Fastball84.

4d ball coaster

i think the ;ift will be something new, idk what, but i think it will be new

Ok... correct me if Im wrong... but doesnt the Ball Coaster require box track? I cant imagine triangular track working too well with the train style. Since we clearly have triangular track, I think we can pretty much put the Ball Coaster rumor to bed... please?

Ripcord Crew 2002 / MF Crew 2004

I don't think you can rule out anything about a prototype ride. Intamin could have changed to 50 different shapes of track since the last time we saw a ball-coaster.

Fair point.. I just dont think its gonna be a ball coaster... thats all...

I do think it would be interesting to see a Spiral Lift a la Jumbo Jet...

Much more modern of course...

I don't have any "insider info" that tells me thats the case, just something I think would be cool.

Ripcord Crew 2002 / MF Crew 2004

the ball coaster only connects to the 2 top rails of the track, doesnt need 2 more on the bottom

look http://www.coastersandmore.de/rides/eas05/eas1.shtml

I don't get it. Would someone explain to me why the ball coaster needs box track? The wheels are only aligned to the top rails anyway, so why does it matter whether it is box, triangle, or flat?

Did I really say that? And I am not a die hard dragster fan, I didn't even ride it last year.

That's what I'm saying. When Intamin showed a version of it at the Euro Amusement Show 2005, http://coastersandmore.de/rides/eas05/eas1.shtml, the track was in a box. So therefore, everyone immediately thinks that it has to be a box track.

It doesn't technically need box track, but the prototype we have seen pictures of does use box track, and a taller form of it if my eyes aren't deceiving me.

I unfortunately don't think we're getting a 4-D ball coaster this year. *** Edited 5/15/2006 2:27:06 AM UTC by Fastball84***

I don’t think we should be arguing about what kind of track it can run on and focus more on the layout. I think Intamin intended it to be more of a compact coaster.....like the S&S Screaming Squirrel. And if that's so, then with the curved track that we've seen so far, I think we can cross off a Ball Coaster from the list.

-Adam G- The OG Dragster nut

WHAT? Screaming Squirrel? That would take up ummm.... pretty much no space at all.

If this is a compact coaster, then it's going to have one hell of a layout, because the footprint we're looking at is a lot bigger than one for a compact coaster. I'm thinking it's going to be somewhat spread out.

EDIT: Can't link to *************? <--THRILL NETWORK?

I'm not calling it a compact coaster. I'm just saying that Intamin intended the ball coaster to be a compact coaster LIKE the Screaming Squirrel. It's obvious the footers, we know as of now, point to a layout coaster.

Do people know the AquaTrax uses both a launch and a lift? Look at Atlantis Adventure, first it launch's into a TopHat thingy and then into tons of twists and curve's.

It also has a lift(I don't know if it's a LIM lift or not) and does some more turns... it has some darkride sections inbetween...

It also has a ride time of 5:00 minutes when you factor in loading and unloading and possible stacking, on top of the normal 4minutes 30seconds. The AquaTrax can do some crazy s**t... AA looks crazy...

Plus, by now Intamin has figured out all the bugs in the LIM system... I think CP is going with Intamin again because they are giving a discount or something because TTD was a little downtime heavy.

It wont break any major records, maybe a few 'first of it's kind' things... it wont be a crazy ball coaster, it will be a family friendly coaster, but still thrilling, it will be a AquaTrax.

And of course, I know nothing about 'project 2007' so I'm probably atleast 100% wrong... I guess.

So, lift or launch? Both...
