Just close Disaster Transport already. It was disgusting!

I figured someone was going to say that. ;)

I don't even consider Space Spiral a ride, really. Yes, it's something the whole family can "do together", but so is going to the restroom, and both are about as exciting. I don't know, even as a kid, it was just god-awful boring, and while I can see updating it and keeping it perhaps, it's no longer the defining point of Cedar Point's skyline it once was. Those days are long, long gone. We have two kids, and I have never even once considered taking everyone for a spin on Space Spiral. In fact, I don't even know it's there anymore. But, this may have a lot to do with how dead/lousy/ugly that whole area of the park has become thanks to DT.

From my perspective, I see no problem with gutting both DT and SS.

Let me put it this way. Is Perry's Monument a "ride"? I consider SS a big elevator; an attraction. A family ride, to me, is something along the lines of the Pirate Ride, Earthquake, etc...and I have have zero doubt that in the coming years we will see multiple family rides (not just attractions) built.

Three things:

1 - WildCat was not a family coaster.

2 - I don't think the park signed a contract to never again build another family attraction.

3 - Did you already forget about Luminosity?

1 - Funny, I saw lots of families riding it.

3 - How family friendly is an attraction that will be at night when a whole bunch of the little family members will likely be asleep in their stroller?

Wish i could have done the pointbuzz tour and have gone inside DT. But the dust in there coating everything would have probably made me sneeze, as I have high alergies :)

At least we all know why those two rides SS and DT were not on the "fix it" list like power tower, MF, giant wheel, (lights), new show (luminosity), fast lane, and new music. They were already on the "to go" list.

A lemon chill omelet. Sounds interesting. Let me get back to you on that. :D

Wait a second... so, Luminosity is only thoroughly "family friendly" if it caters to kids in strollers, but WildCat was family friendly, even though kids in strollers were prohibited from riding? How does that logic even work?

I loved DT.. Too bad its leaving us. I remember when the robot was working and it was cool! Its the one ride that my whole family loves and both my kids (11 and 10) were disappointed that DT is leaving. We will ride it one last time on our trip to CP.

That robot in the control booth actually scared me when I was a kid. LOL!

I have tried looking for pics of the que when all the props were working. Or even pics of the plans or conversion to Disaster Transport from Avalanche run. Does anyone have any clue?

I can remember waiting in hour+ lines for DT in it's heyday of mid to late 90's when all the effects were working. This was right around when Star Wars was re-release in 97 so I was all about Star Wars (still am actually). But I used to love waiting in line imagining I was about to take a flight on the Millenium Falcon (I never understood or cared about the whole Alaska thing). Those are fun memories but that DT is long gone and has been for quite some time. That's why I'm not too sad about it being removed

I would love some photos/video of DT in it's prime.

And the way to make this ride more appealing is to tear it down and let guests see the lake again from the park.

Can someone explain this fetish with "seeing the lake"? I guess if you are from Kansas and have never seen a big body of water before it might be a thrill, but at least 3/4 of Cedar Point's customers live within 50 miles of Lake Erie, so they could go to the lake whenever they want. It is not like it is the sparkling blue waters of the Caribbean. You want to attract people to the lake at Cedar Point? Rebuild the bath houses and remove the barriers that keep would-be swimmers in knee-deep water.

You say Wildcat is not a family attraction but Luminosity is. How does your logic work? I assume you are excluding Wildcat from being a family attraction because of its 48" height requirement and you include Luminosity because it has no such requirement. I understand that. My point is that I am hesitant to call Luminosity family friendly because it is only available at night. How many families will miss out on Luminosity for the simple fact that they cannot stay that late in the day? I would guess that in many cases this will be because of their kids who are too short for Wildcat. Looks like a lose-lose for them. Too short for Wildcat and either asleep in the stroller or asleep in their car seat during Luminosity.

For me to call something a family friendly attraction I feel that it has to be made available for a larger window of opportunity. And if we call Luminosity a family attraction it is not an addition, it is simply a replacement for another family attraction that was removed - the giant white screen and whatever show they used to do with it.

I've lived my entire life near large bodies of water - Lakes Huron, St. Claire and Superior, and the Pacific Ocean. I still love being near the water. Just because you take it for granted doesn't mean that others do as well. Cedar Point would be idiotic to not leverage their most unique asset.

It's not a fetish, but common sense. The view of the lake is beautiful, and something that DT has been standing in the way of for decades. For example, are there coasters as good as Magnum in the world? Of course, but none of them offer the atmosphere created by the lake; especially as you crest the second hill. Build the same coaster in the desert and no one cares. Build it near the lake and it gets ranked as one of the world's best year after year.

DT is a barrier. It's hideous. It's an abomination.

It's gone.

I love it.

I want to help demolish it.

You must be assuming that the park resorts are filled to the brim with 20 something bachelors and bachelorettes. Only nerd parents don't keep their kids in the park until it closes. How un-fun is that? I would actually bet that most families stick around. Not all, but most.

Still not logical. None of those can't-stay-awake-after-9:00PM kids could ride WildCat. Most of those not-tall-enough-to-ride-WildCat kids will probably be able to stay awake after 9:00PM.

None < most.

Seeing the moon reflect off of the like while climbing the lift of Raptor or Magnum is not something easily done at other parks.

This I agree with 100%. I also love the view from windseeker and the giant wheel. What doesn't excite me is seeing the empty beach at ground level from behind a chain link fence, which is what you get when you tear out Disaster Transport.

I would have to think CP would consider some improvements in the barriers. ;)
