Just close Disaster Transport already. It was disgusting!

Disaster Transport has been one of my favorite rides in the park, just something about it that I cannot explain. Yesterday I went to the park and the ride had to be in the worst condition I have seen EVER. The air conditioning was not on in waiting room or stairs. It reeked in there of something wicked and gross. The carpeting in the small hall leading up to the stairs was harder than concrete with all the gunk and filth that was ground into it. The entire ride maybe had 2 props half working and the chaser lights going up the hill only had red flashing every 4 seconds. The entire ride did not have any semblance to ANY story anymore. This is entirely Dick Kinzels fault for letting this ride get into this condition. I am confidient that the new leadership will do something next year. I just think they are better off just closing the ride for the rest of the season than to even let people ride this thing.

I will add though the rest of the park was AWESOME this year and I have never seen such friendliness by the park staff. The new vibe of the park now that the old man is gone is completly different. The music was GREAT in the park and the upbeat dance music added a new dimension. Lets face it, the majority of the park is younger kids that probably only heard some of the music that CP had played in the past at CP. I heard so many new songs and just fun music it was great. The front speakers at the main gate were BLASTING Rihanna on our way out and some people were dancing on their own on the bricks. MUCH better.

Well, one could easily interpret this as the writing being on the wall for the ride. Granted, it's not cool to let the thing COMPLETELY fall into disrepair, but if they know its days are numbered, why would they bother to put any effort into maintaining something that's going to be hypothetically gone in a year?

I don't think the lift hill chasers have been replaced since they were put in.

Heh, I went on it too yesterday. The air conditioning was off, but the line was only to the bottom of the stairs, so it makes sense to not run it if people are only queuing for five minutes. I can't remember what was running in the repair bay, including the awful waoooo-waoo noise (although I think it has been gone for several seasons now).

The chaser lights on the lift were only flashing every few seconds, which was much more tolerable then when they were on "chase" mode last year. The actual ride was mostly dimly lit, but I know the layout well enough to tell what's going on at this point. As for the erm.... "props," I don't remember really anything standing out. It basically looked like it did in the pictures from the tour in there a few months ago. No secret construction or conspiracies sighted, just junk.

Overall, as usual, the ride is a lame as it always has been. The fact that the ride doesn't have Fast Lane, along with a total lack of improvements over the years, suggests that it's on its way out.

I find if funny that no one stands up for DT... lol...

For once we're all in agreement. tear it down lol

I love DT, always hit it or 3 times with the kids, I still go on with my wife when we go. I do like the idea of taking the box off and letting it free again.

Yeah, at least in this case, Disaster Transport doesn't have REMOTELY the historical significance of Leap-The-Dips, though I doubt Cedar Point is going to stick another B&M invert there. (That IS what it was in the original story, right?)

I say tear it down, but there needs to be another coaster with a 42" height requirement in its place or added some where esle in the park. CP has this emphasis on FAMILY so I hope its not replaced by a B&M with 52-54" height requirement. Something more than just a single train Vekoma coaster.

It would also be nice to have Mine Ride reworked to allow for a 42" height.

I have to agree with everyone who's saying close Disaster Transport. I remember my first ride on it in 1989, I vaguely remember the props working when I was on it. My second ride came in 1999 and by that point the ride was already bad. Nothing worked anymore, and it was just disappointing to see. I've been on it a few more times in the last couple of years, and it's gotten much worse than it was in '99.

To say it's gone down the tubes would be a big understatement. I say either tear it down and build something else, or remove the building and make it Avalanche Run again.

I will be making my first trip to Cedar Point this year on Monday, I'm very interested to see all the markings. The ride has been terrible for years now, it's a somewhat nice ride over the summer when it's hot but it's not usually air conditioned. I wouldn't really call it an indoor roller coaster, it's pretty much a roller coaster that was popular in the 80s, stuffed into a ware house.

I remember when DT was my favorite ride. Then I got older and took a ride on Maverick and everything changed. I just think they need to re-theme it and take of off that eyesore of a building.

Disaster Transport isn't a bad roller coaster...it's just nowadays you can get a more thrilling family coaster in a smaller amount of space.

Anyone have or know of any videos taken from the original line or of the ride when all of the effects worked? (Wouldn't it be great to do back in time with a camera phone?). Also if anyone knows of any videos of the pirate ride...

Found pirate ride footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpsR3Dkrr9M

I went on Friday and thought the ride looked the same as always. Hard to spot dirt and grime under those blacklights....

I actually thought the flashing lights on the lift were an improvement over last year, but that's just me.

The kids LOVE this ride.

I had to ride it with them a dozen times yesterday. When we went in it, the air was working fine. Now the props inside the ride were all dark.

I would have no problem with the ride, if they would just leep ip the little amount of theming that they do have left.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I dont mean it was just dirty, it was filthy. I know CP has safety being a priority but when you see all the items being totally neglected on that ride, it makes it look like they are just letting it rot and hoping for the best.

I went on it yesterday too, the air conditioning was on in the waiting area but off when you got to the station. Nothing looked different, all I noticed was less of the lights on in the queue. It was very dark walking back there.

Unless this ride has become a maintenance nightmare or is becoming structurally unsafe, I don't understand why it just doesn't get a re-theme and building repairs, where it is advertised as a brand new roller coaster / dark ride attraction.

It already worked once. Most people never knew that Disaster Transport was Avalanche Run in a building. The ride experience in the dark already has a cult of followers. Throw several million at it, and I think you could have an awesome dark ride / coaster combo.

The thing is, the ride is short, so you'd need to try to increase its length of fun. A Peanuts theme as Ensign mentioned or something geared to families would be just fine.

Make it uniquely interactive. It has a long, slow lift. Make the walls on both sides giant screens going up, and then have Kinect-style motion interaction, where guests could toss around balls with other riders and Peanuts characters or something along those lines.

There is so much cheap technology to utilize these days that would delight kids and adults alike, which could easily bring the ride back to a park favorite.
