I heard from a twister ride op that Disaster transport will be getting a new roof that does not leak! Maybe when it rains you can ride it finally. But I can see it now, the rain is coming down, and all the other rides are closed, and half the park races over to DT to cram inside the building to catch a ride.....
See now while I just posted above how facility updates and additional theming can make the world of a difference. I DO NOT MEAN revamping your worst ride in the entire park followed by money dumped on the second worst ride in the park - Mean Streak.
You ever walk around the water parks at any Cedar Fair park and catch a whiff of....fecal matter? Yes I have, and if I might add it was at Michigans Adventure in the Funnel of Fear line. This was a pungent odor that everone in the line noticed. I would rather that issue be addressed than Disaster Transport or Mean Streak hands down.
What is Cedar Point waiting for? I know I could live with a summer of the park being under construction between the aquatic stadium and disaster transport if they were to demolish and start new there. These items along with Demon Drop have been on the auction block for years and they need to be done away with.
I would take updated Breakers hotel room bathrooms before I would take Mean Streak / Disaster Transport improvements.
It is just mind boggling to see Cedar Point waste money on these rides. Leave the rides as is even and just go straight towards themeing the park more and facility updates / hotel renovations.
The economy is in a crunch but thats no reason to make your raman noodle coaster try and be a Del Monico Rib Eye steak. It isn't going to happen. It's still going to be a cup of crappy noodles.

According to todays blog May 16th is Opening Day. A bit late, no?
No. It's about the same number of operating days.

Cedar Point Opening Day:
2005: May 7th
2006: May 10th
2007: May 12th
2008: May 10th
2009: May 16th
There is a small trend towards opening later in May, but not significant. I would suspect that revenue/attendance is low opening any earlier plus the weather is always a gamble. The weather the last 2 years in September and October have been great overall. I would only assume that closing day will be Sunday, November 1.

Its just how you want to look at the numbers. Im sure the math people out there will analyze the opening and operating days every which way. If you look at it by opening on calendar days, then they are opening a bit later next year. If you want to look at it by weekends in May, your half right. Cedar Point was open 4 Saturdays and 3 Sundays in May of 2008.
