KevinJ, do you know what the problem is? Do you know how to fix it? Exactly. Your ignorance is not needed.
What I do know is that as a consumer of the park, it is nothing less than ridiculous that a newer ride has been down for almost 9 months. "What the problem is" is arbitrary. The real problem is that Cedar Point now has a multi-million dollar, poorly engineered (with regard to Jeff's point about the design) decoration that looks like a ride sitting in the front of the park.
To get enough torque to do that, they are using SIX electric motors, all synchronized with each other so that they all add to the force required to push the ride. That's a fairly complicated trick involving a fairly elaborate communication system between the motor controllers, and precise control over the motor coils.
The complexity of which, pound for pound, likens it to TTD, which obviously works on a much larger scale.
Just because it's a simple concept, it doesn't mean its a simple fix.
I never said it was.
You can't say that you've never been fixing something and had a time where you just say "Crap, I need this now too..." It happens.
Maybe my vacuum cleaner, but not something that I invested millions of dollars in. That's called a financial "blunder" (see Kinzel's remarks regardring TTD). A bomb. A lemon.
Delerium at KI has the same down-time issues. Ignorance? Hardly.
"we can't buy this thing in third or fourth quarter, we'll have to do it first quarter" type of thing. I don't know this for sure, but I think we're dealing with some pretty expensive parts here.
That logic makes no sense, whatsoever. The rides are the heart and soul of CP. What is more expensive to CP, buying the part from a bankrupt company, or having a multicolored seagull poop collector right in front of the park? You decide.
But I'm ignorant, so what do I know?

^^ - you pressurize a media into a large vessel, air for pneumatic, liquid for hydraulic. You then release the media from said pressurized vessel to operate a machine. You could just as easily use air on TTD as you could liquid on PT or Skyhawk. The power would not be the same, but there is nothing that says liquid can't drive a piston or that air can't drive a motor.

Matt--
A lot depends on *which* part has failed.
You might have hit on the most important issue in your earlier post. Huss, just like every other manufacturer in the amusement business, is bankrupt. That means that if it is a part custom built for the Giant Frisbee, they probably don't have any laying around; they have to have the parts fabricated on demand, and depending on the nature of the part, that can be a complex undertaking. Even worse, if the part in question is an assembly, it may be built using other components or fabrication services from other bankrupt companies.
Consider also the possibility of multiple failures, or even complicated failures that inspire 'shotgunning' in service techs.
In short, yes, I think it is very possible that they are waiting for parts to arrive nine months after the ride went down, particularly if it took a while to figure out what went wrong.
(obviously, there is a lot of speculation going on here...)

Which is both ridiculous and unacceptable. But like you said, the company is bankrupt. Hard to imagine why.

If that is ridiculous and unacceptable to you, then don't go. Plain and simple.
Wow, I didn't realize this topic would bring up as many flame
throwers as it has. I just wanted to know if it would be open?
My son just got past 52 inches and WT, TTD, Mav, PT and Max are on
his must hit list for 08'.
Thanks again everyone see you there the 18th - 20th.

If I find it ridiculous that a ride can be broken for 9 months I shouldn't go to Cedar Point? Thanks for your insight.
It is good to hear it is finally moving, at least. Let's hope they have found a way to make it a tad bit more reliable with the latest fix.

I Caught this image from the WebCam, maXair is in the upper right corner, you can just see it swinging toward the right (most of it is off screen):
Just because you see it moving doesn't mean that everything is working as it should.
