I think the new colours do attract guests. When it was Reddish and greyish it looked dull and not very noticable, now the new bright colours draw attention and make people say "ohhhh look at that, let's go ride it."
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
I'm one of those people that say that. Everytime I go with my buddy I"m like lets Ride Iron Dragon because he doesn't like Disaster Transport so we substitute it with Iron Dragon. We also ride Wildcat which by the way when it was white that coaster was Dull looking as well. I also wanted to mention if you guys are ever playing with the POVs on Cedar Points website, look at Iron Dragons, it still has the dull colors from the 90s. And Get this, Mantis, Millennium Force, or Top Thrill Dragster are not in this video. So the video must have been done in 1995 or something.
I hadnt ridden ID in five years because it seemed small in comparison to other CP rides. But this year I was forced on it and that 1st drop gave me butterflies. I wonder why that drop has such an effect?
long time lurker here...but SFGA's post made me laugh...
took my 6 yr old niece to CP last month for her 1st time...she was having nothing to do with any of the 'big guy rides' (her terminology) but all day she was curious about the 'hangy one.' We hemmed and hawed...watched it go by numerous times...and finally she said lets do it. After that 1st hill she was terrified by the afore mentioned butterflies it gave her....so much so that she changed the name of the ride to the 'Iron Butterfly.' Childish humor...yet delighfully accurate..much more butterfly than dragon. It will forever live on as the IB in my mind.
You need a thneed.
Now if they could just make it 17 minutes long, they'd have a winner on their hands ;)
*ducks from the flying tomatoes*
This is how much my uncle enjoyed Iron Dragon: 17 times in 2 days. Most of it was waiting for me to come off of MF and TTD. God only knows how many times he'll go on it on Wednesday... :)
That first drop does more to me than any of the other coasters. Love this ride!
"And let's also not forget--let's not forget, Dude--that keeping wildlife, an amphibious rodent, for uh, domestic, you know, within the city--that isn't legal either. "
The first drop is very cool. I just don't understand why more people don't ride this one.
See ya at the point!
Season Passholder since 1995.
Summers spent visiting the point= 25
I agree the first drop is the devil on that ride, but its such a great ride. It has some nice relaxing fast turns after it. Then once you get to the second hill, you have more good twists into the water.
I like the ID, personally not as much as the bigger ones, but I think its nice to have a smaller one, for those who cannot take TTD or MF, and so on. I also find that if you are tired or overheated, it's very nice, because of the fact it makes a nice breeze in the shade, with a rather short wait.
N: "Those things scare me half to death."
H: "But thats the skyride, we even gave them the nickname, the Snoopies."
N: "Yeah I know, but Snoopy can be very scary and intimidating sometimes."

Plus the mist can cool you off.
75th POST!!!
They were cut down to make way for Dragster. I had never been to the park pre-Dragster so I don't know what I'm missing out on.

Its fun to ride after riding Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster. I'm the type of person that will get pumped up after riding those two that I'll be like lets relax a minute and ride Iron Dragon. It gets me pumped up more!
By the way how tall is Iron Dragon? For both Hills?
yeah its kinda like a breather.
I believe the heights are 76, and 62. Don't take my word, but I'm pretty much positive.

Iron Dragon is a great beginner ride! It was actually my second roller coaster when I first visited Cedar Point when I was 10. But my friends and I don't pass up an empty line, though the lift could be better, the first drop is still pleasing, such as Corkscrews. But I also miss the terrain and how dark everything was before they removed it. At least Millenium Force offers a similar opportunity at night on the Island. I have moments on the ride when I just look around and say "What the hell am I doing here?".
But the ending is fun, and it is an excuse to scream. (To people who don't find it annoying.)
Life has it's ups and downs, might as well make it on a coaster!
As I ride I love Iron Dragon. Especially sitting in the front car at the end, just before you go into the station and it swings like mad. That's fun. But who was smoking the crack pipe when the park painted it those colors?
Whats nice about Iron Dragon as well is you could wait for the front seat and it only takes maybe 5 minutes.
When all the trees were up you were basically in the woods until the twisting into the lagoon, rather than going around trees and next to Dragster, from what I remember.
