Interested in meeting other ride hosts/employees for the '10 season

I ended up cutting my hair pretty short this past summer...big mistake,as it made me hotter with my hair always at the back of my neck.

Definatly make sure you meet the grooming guidelines before you leave to process in though,lol...I'd had a single blonde streak in the front of my hair and my nails were "too dark" and they wouldn't let me take my picture for my i.d. till I fixed it. I had to run to Rite Aid to pick up hair dye and nail polish remover, and my new roomie had to help me dye my hair, lol

Haha. I dont think I'll have any trouble with the hair color or the nail polish, although I have been known to paint my nails up like union jacks, but I guess I'll refrain from doing that over the summer :)

Oh, another question, what is the cell phone policy? Are we allowed to have our phones with us while working?

Absolutely not. Don't wanna get caught during a pocket check. You have to put it away in your locker with your other belongings while working.

New Mexico? How in the world did you hear about Cedar Point?

2009 CP&LE Railroad
2010 Thunder Canyon

My parents are both from a small town about an hour west of Toledo called Napoleon OH, so we still have some family up there that we go visit every summer. We used to go to the park a lot when we were visiting them. :)

Haha. I'm from Arkansas and get the same question all the time. :)

I would also recommend bringing some extra money to maybe purchase the rainsuit or windsuit when u get your wardrobe. It gets pretty chilly those first few weeks. Windsuits are $50 and rain suits are..$25 i think?

Yeah it was somewhere around 25 bucks if I remember right. I'd definitely get something with pants--either a windsuit or a rainsuit--because I thought I'd be able to make it on just the sweatshirt (which was like...$15) and boy was I wrong. There were even a couple shifts in late August I spent layered up under a rainsuit the whole time.

I won't have to worry about the shifts in late August, as I'll be leaving August 1st. However, I will definitely buy the wind and rain suit, because I'm used to 90+ degrees starting in May and I know it will be a whole different experience for me in Ohio.

That it will be. I know I will be investing in a wind suit too. I just can't wait till it's warm enough to even consider wearing shorts again! haha

Come to NM Tcgolfer! If I had to guess, I'd say you'd be in shorts within the next... two-three weeks.

Anyone want to take a stab on letting us rookies in on what to expect from the employee cafeteria? How do shift breaks work?

Oh how awesome that would be! The problem is I'm having to work my butt off to get through this quarter to begin with so taking a vacation is out. lol As far as 2 to 3 weeks. I sure hope you're right.

Great questions! I was just going to ask the same thing.

Hey Brooke & Ryan,

Welcome to Area TWO! Where according to our manager and supervisors everyone and everything about our area is PRETTY! lol you will hear that alot this summer! You guys got a great area to work in!

I'll be working on Millennium Force this summer, last year I worked on Top Thrill Dragster, 2 weeks at Mantis, two weeks at Millennium Force, and one day at Corkscrew/Super. Every ride has their own ups and downs but make the bes of ever situation and you will have an AMAZING summer!!

As for shift and breaks, towards the beginning and end of the season there's not much variety but in the middle of the season shifts can get crazy if we has the great staffing we did last season (which I'm assuming we will have once again.)!

Shifts/Breaks:
open - close (OC)/ 45 30 15
Open - 6 (O6)/ 45 15
open - 8(cutback) 45 30
open - 1:30 then 6-close (split)/ 15 15
open -1:30 (O1:30)/ 15
11:30 - close (11:30)/ 45 30
11:30 - 6 / 45
11:30 - 8 (11:30cutback)/ 45 15
1:30-close (1:30)/ 45 15
1:30-8 (1:30cutback)/ 45
1:30-6 / 30
6- close / 15

I think I got eveything there, but I may have missed something so fellow returners double check this for me lol. Oh and what's in the parenthesis is what we typically call the shifts, and if it says cutback that means that once all the breaks are done and mid day track walks and cleaning is down you get to go home, or be cutback. Now with cutbacks if breaks take long u migh be held over longer or get cut early, but never EXPECT to get cut early that just makes you angry! Just always expect to be there till 8 when ur a cutback and if u leave earlier then celebrate! Lol!

As for the employee cafe, it's nothing spectacular, cheaper park food but dosent taste anywhere near as good as the park food on the midways. But Macho Nacho days are heaven and so are corn dog days!

Well I hope this helps you guys! Add me on facebook Eric Murfield

I'll be glad to help you guys any way I can!

CONGRATS ON AREA TWO!!! see ya in may!!

Hi Sethhh!!!! I love your screen name. And as for the cafeteria, blech. It's cheaper than the park food but still too much for crappy food, and I have no idea what everyone's obsession with Macho Nachos is...they are completely disgusting.

2009: Wicked Twister

Around how much is it per meal? Is it buffet style?

2010 Ride Host (Corkscrew/Super Himalaya)

Not buffet style. Ummm it depends what you get. I would say most people spent between $3-$5 per meal.

Chicken fingers and fries were three bucks and change.

Is there really any other options? Besides getting food at the park locations... how practical is it to bring a lunch or go back to the off point housing?

You can bring a lunch, but going back to housing is pretty much out of the questin.

You can eat one about $2.50 if you plan right. Grilled cheese is $1, water is free, and fries are $1.50 i think. They can also do debit/credit, so if you forget your cash, don't panic. And McKenzie, I picked this name cuz I would say it instead of "awesome" after the "how was your ride?" and got made fun of for it. lol. And yes, the macho nachos are amazing..especially when they serve them TWO days in a row. Pure bliss.
