Interested in meeting other ride hosts/employees for the '10 season

Hey everyone,

My name is Brooke. I am a 21 yr. old college student from New Mexico. This will be my first ever season working at Cedar Point, and since I'm coming in from a long way off, I'd really like to meet some other people and make some connections before I throw myself into a strange place where I don't know anyone.

I was hired as a ride host, my assignment says "Super Himalaya," but the man I spoke to over the phone said that it's possible that my assignment could change upon arrival.

I'll be processing in on May 10th, and I really have no idea what to expect. I'm really excited about it though, and I hope it will be as much fun as I am imagining. It's been about 6 years since I've been to the park, although we used to go at least once every other summer when I was young. I wish I could have gone more, but Cedar Point isn't exactly the most convienent place from small town New Mexico.

If anyone would like to chat, I'd really appreciate making a friend or two before I make the 1800 miles drive. :)

hey there! if you work on the super himalaya you also will work on the corkscrew! but dont worry you will most likely work on all of the rides on area 2 at one point or another, cedar point will switch you on rides all the time i hear! Im working on power tower this year which is in area 2 also so we may be working together at one point during the summer! your summer at cedar point will be what you make of it, the housing is definately not 5 star but your hardly in your room anyway lol. make sure to bring shower shoes because the bathrooms are horrible!. you will work 6 days a week sometimes all 7...and they will be long shifts!!! make sure you wear sunblock because sandusky weather is very humid, and it has a mind of its own...you never know when those severe storms will pop up! always be prepared. You will make so many lifelong friends this summer. I would recommend living in the commons dorms. any other questions dont be afraid to ask me or anyone else on here! hope to see you there!

2010-power tower!

Don't be expected to move around that much, it doesn't happen. You can cross train rides and may be able to pick up hours there, don't expect to work every ride in the area. But Corkscrew is fun and your leadership is awesome... I am positive you'll have a fun summer :D

Although the hours are pretty long at the beginning and end of the summer, they get pretty short in mid June and July when everyone is there.

My signature was longer than three lines.

hey Brooke my name is Nick and I am 22 (today!) and it will also be my first season in the park. I am working on Gemini so I wont be in your area, but I'm always ready to chat with, especially with the big cloud of doom hanging over Ohio this week...go away snow!

2010-Gemini

:) Thanks for all your advice! Any little bit helps. And yeah, the humidity is going to be killer for me. I am definitely not used to it.

I laugh to hear you talk about snow, Nick. It was almost 60 degrees here yesterday.

I know how you feel. This will be my first year also and I have really appreciated all of the help fellow employees have been giving us. Coming from Omaha/Lincoln where the climate is slightly warmer then Sandusky, it will be nice to have a mild(in my opinion) summer.

I know what you mean, Chris. The other employees have been great. It makes me feel much more secure about being so far from home.

I second what Kelsey said. I was assigned to Twister and I worked there every single day except for one weekend when I worked on Raptor. You may be moved around, but it's not extremely common.

I doubt you'll be crosstrained at "all the rides in area two."

I'm driving approx. 15 hours from south east Kansas...so I kinda feel your pain with the whole ridiculous drive. Definatly try to find some roomates before you leave on either here or on facebook, I did last summer and she ended up being one of my best friends.

Its pretty unlikely that you'll work on very many other rides.I also worked everyday on my contracted ride (maXair) last year, and only ever got sent to Demon Drop for break help occasionally. You'll wanna get your info from people that have at least worked at CP before...and not from other first years who only think they know what they're talking about, just a word of advice :)

Thanks. I'd be okay with working most of the summer on my contract rides. Having a coaster plus another smaller ride adds some variety and I've heard from several people that the Corkscrew is a fun place to be... so let's hope they're right. :)

I do hope to find roommates before I leave. Luckily I've got plenty of time. I've heard a lot of people saying that the commons dorms are the best place to be. I wonder how soon those fill up.

Commons dorms will still have plenty of room if you're processing in on May 10th...its the people that don't arrive till June or July that would have to worry about getting into them.

Hey Brooke!

First of all, congratulations on your ride assignment! I cross-trained to Corkscrew/Himmy for two weeks last summer and loved it. I also spent two weeks on Top Thrill Dragster, and a day on Magnum. My contract ride was Monster/Witches Wheel. So obviously I got moved around a little. Almost everybody on my crew spent at least a couple of days on a different ride at some point during the summer, which is a nice change of pace by the time August rolls around.

However.

I'm actually kind of jealous that you get a full summer on Corkscrew/Himmy! Crosstraining there was really a blast. They're two very different rides that complement each other well, which is part of what I liked so much. Himalaya has one crew member working it at a time, and it's pretty much a check restraints and hit the button kind of ride. It's a good ride for getting some real face time with the guests, slower pacing means more interaction, which is also what I love about Monster.

Corkscrew is quicker paced, and so much fun!!!!! You get to send a lot of kids on their very first upside-down ride, and it's got sentimental value for a lot of the grownups (it's been there since 76, after all.)

I'll be working just a couple rides back from you at Monster/Witches Wheel. I'm not going to be processing in until June, but once we're both on-point if you ever need anything I'll be right there! (and theoretically living in Golds again, so if you want to hear from someone who's lived in on-point housing I can help there too!)

See you this summer. ^_^

Thanks Grace! Any amount of help is always appreicated.

Can anyone elaborate on the grooming guidelines for me? I have long curly brown hair and I was wondering if I should think about cutting it shorter for the summer to save on the hassel. It has to be pulled back at all times while working right?

No, you can wear your hair down. But you can't have colorful nails, or visible tattoos, or piercings other than one in each ear. The girls on my crew wore their hair down or in a ponytail, doesn't really matter.

Working Corkscrew you'll at least have a roof over your head, but I personally wear mine as short as it can go and still be able to pull it back. I wear mine in a bob the rest of the year, but am already growing it down to my shoulders for the summer. If you do cut your hair I'd say go short but leave yourself ponytail room. Still, you're right--longer than that isn't really worth the hassle.
