Back in the early 80's, they threatened to eliminate the bonuses as well...the whole whopping $0.30 an hour! LOL
I highly doubt that they would get rid of the bonus system. They wouldn't have anything to keep employees untill the end of their work agreements. Many stay only because of their bonus nearing the end of the season.
Not to mention that they wouldn't have anything over any other employer.

If you're only willing to do minimum work, you only deserve minimum wage. If you do more than the minimum, you're proving you deserve to make more than the minimum.
I think the opposite applies too. If an employee does more than the minimum then the company should be willing to compensate them for such. A company that does not compensate for such efforts only deserve minimum work from employees. Cedar Point does not compensate for efforts exceeding the minimum.
I noticed at CP, if you want to make more, you can. You just need to prove your worth more. First you get more hours, then more responsibilities, then promotion(more money).
That was not the case for me at all. As a base rate employee, I started out working 12-15 hour days, six (sometimes seven) days a week. I was doing the work of three people. It would have been almost physically and mentally impossible for me to prove myself by doing anything MORE. I'd never get to leave the park.
I wouldn't have wanted more hours or responsibilities, I already had way more than I could handle. I think for anyone to call the work that is done at CP "minimum" is really kind of ridiculous. Like I said, my first year my department was so understaffed that I was literally doing the work of three people. And still just getting paid as one person.
You can pick up a few extra hours at CP, depending on your department, but chances are that you're already working until near-exhaustion as it is. Promotions do not bring about large increases in pay. TLs and ATLs make literally pennies more per hour than base-rates (red tags), and even zone supervisors don't make a whole lot more.
This means that there are 2 types of people working at CP: Those who can't get a job that pays better somewhere else (and that, my friends, is not a real good sign), and those who come to CP despite the low pay, because we love it there. Admittedly, sometimes we love it more than others, of course....;-)
Please don't insult the good college students that work at Cedar Point. They could get a job almost anywhere. For those actually saving money, finding 50-60 hours of work per week isn’t as easy as you think. First off, you have to find two jobs, and then get the schedules to work, not including transportation to these jobs.
As far as raises, those pennies you referred to equaled an extra dollar a hour for me. Which to me was an extra $80 a week. Plus my hours were automatic. I don’t get sent home when the park isn’t busy or it’s raining or a ride is closed. While I don't doubt that your department is (or was) understaffed, to say your two hands are doing the work of 3 is a bold statement. It reminds me of a union job when 1 guy holds the shovel while the other 2 watch him dig. Me, I liked it when it was busy, made the day go by quickly. But it also reminds me that most can’t handle working 40 hours a week, let alone 60. It’s not a job with 3 smoke breaks, time to surf the internet, make a couple calls to your friends, slack off and gossip, it’s actual work.
Yes Cedar Point doesn’t pay top dollar. But it also is a seasonal job. Not the job to support the family (even though some do it!). Me, I enjoyed having cable, electric, a stove, A/C, a bed, half my laundry done and transportation to work for $24 dollars a week. I could never find that where I live now. So I guess it depends on who you are. Anyone who has moved out of mom and dad’s house should understand this.
