I don't know how many of you have heard about this, but the House of Representatives just passed a bill that would increase the minimum wage to $7.25/hr. From here the bill goes to the Senate where it may or may not pass. While I'm not really interested with whom your political loyalty lies, I do wonder what your opinion is on how it the park would handle the wage increase if it happens.
Right now they give seasonals $6.25/hr with the bonus incentive of a $1/hr for every hour worked if an employee fulfills their contract. Former (and current) employees have been pleading for a wage increase for years now (since the park hasn't raised them since the late '90's). Now if this bill is passed and signed into law, do you think the park will boost the wage rate to $7.25/hr and keep the $1/hr bonus, or do you think the park will effectively keep the wages the same by just phasing out the bonus?

I'm guessing they'll drop the bonus, and likely immediately as long as the debate in DC doesn't extend into next spring. Though it would certainly be nice to see them keep the bonus incentive.

actually, seasonal employment is exempt from minimum wage, so they could do what every they want with wages. However I would assume they would increase it in order to get adaquite staffing, otherwise, you really could make more money working at a Mc Donald's

I doubt they'll eliminate the bonus. Once you get to September/October the number of seasonals who claim they're only still around so they can get their bonus is astounding. I would imagine they'd hit a little bit of a staffing issue near the end of the year without having the incentive to stay around.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you

Good point, I didn't really think about that time period. Well, at least if employees complete their contract they'll be getting some slightly decent pay with the bonus. Fine by me as I plan on applying come December.

Ohio would become the new site of the apocolypse if the minimum wage was $7.25 an hour...
Im just joking.. but somehow I think it would just drve more businesses to leave ohio then the added wage would not make much a difference if everyone is unemployed... I cannot imagine how this state could get much worse yet the folks down in Columbus always seem to suprise us all with their incompetence time and time again...
Could be worse, NH is just as nuts. min wage is STILL $5.15 here. The only thing that saves us is no income or sales tax. On the other hand property taxes are sky high.

However, that 8 dollars quickly goes away once you see the taxes taken out to pay for that health care. Suddenly, you're only making 4 bucks that you can take home.

The Bill also states that $7.25 would also not fully happen until 2009, so there is 3 year for it to go up over time.
Here in NY it's up to 6.15 and will be going up to 7.20 in 2007.

Oh well, it didn't pass. Here in Chicago they passed a minimum wage for 'big box' companies (walmart, target, home depot, etc). $9.25 now to $10.25 in 3 years. Plus they have to give $1.50 an hour for insurance. Since that annoucement Walmart has said never mind to building in town and Target stopped both of it's construction projects of both stores they were building. The mayor is expected to veto the bill soon!
I noticed at CP, if you want to make more, you can. You just need to prove your worth more. First you get more hours, then more responsibilities, then promotion(more money).

Which is exactly how it should work. If you're only willing to do minimum work, you only deserve minimum wage. If you do more than the minimum, you're proving you deserve to make more than the minimum. We don't need the government giving raises to people working for private businesses.

Don't get me wrong min. wage should be increased. But I don't know how to do it. A high school kid working only to get extra cash can't be compared to a family man trying to live. And it's hard enough living on $9, let alone $5.15.

Exactly why I will be moving. Although there are some perks to living here.

I'm sure they'd keep the bonus. Otherwise the workers would get lazier.
