Idea on L-TH-B theory

To get people use to the launch and twisting! And supply a launched coaster to people who might not like extreme heights. And add another coaster to their count.------------------

Ever since I began watching this forum (and I admit that I am pretty new at all of this), you guys have been talking as though the L-TH-B arrangement is some "common" coaster configuration that has been done elsewhere only not as high as #16 appears to be. However, I have asked where else in the world is there an oval shaped L-TH-B type of coaster and no one seems to be able to come up with one. I believe that there is just NO WAY that this coaster will only be L-TH-B. It's got to have more elements to expend at least SOME of the kinetic energy coming off of a high vertical drop. It's going to HURT people if it simply grinds them to a stop after hitting speeds in excess of 90 MPH!!

Can ANYONE name a coaster that is only L-TH-B and basically only makes a big oval shaped circuit?

he's got a point folks. thanks bob.

Uhm, while it's not in the same layout, Hypersonic XLC at PKD is pretty much a launch, tophat, brakes. The tophat doesn't have any twist to it, as it's more of an exaggerated hill rather than an 'element' as we've come to think of a tophat. It also has a bunny hill. But, that's as close of a comparison you'll find.

Face it guys, this is what a "rocket" coaster on crack is. I imagine this to be the signature rocket coaster, and further installations at other Cedar Fair parks will look more like Xcelerator. Everyone in the chain will be getting either a Wicked Twister close (Steel Venom, anyone?), or an Xcelerator clone after #16 is unveiled to the public. Granted, that's simply my $.02 and not based on any 'insider' information.

Gravity - Thanks. HypersonicXLC was mentioned before and I have looked at it. It still has some hills and an overbanked turn in the layout. The way this CP ride has been portrayed thus far is much more dull than Hypersonic. And Hypersonic is ONLY 160' tall! There is simply TOO much energy being built into this first hill of "Dragster". I refuse to believe that it won't have several other very cool elements.

Of course, I have also previously mentioned my other pet theory that somehow this will be a DUAL LAUNCH coaster with two trains racing up each side of the hill and then crossing somehow at the top. I am still holding out hope for that type of layout and I think that the evidence is that the Intimin Project name is apparently "Dragster".

Not with magnetic brakes, it won't. Xcelerator hits the brakes around 80 or so. It is not as smooth as MF, but nothing like a friction brake hard stop at much slower speeds. I wouldn't be surprised if the magnets are designed with a bit less pull on #16 than they are on Xcelerator, to further smooth out the stop.
In any case, who wants to simply be stopped after building up a lot of speed coming off of a vertical drop. I think just about everyone wants to have the coaster dissapate that speed through turns, more hills, etc with the radii getting tighter as the speed diminishes so that you are still getting thrills right to the end.

The major costs for the ride are the launch system and building that huge tower. For a relatively small cost, they should be able to stretch the ride out with additional elements.

i'm just wondering about the construcion going on at the other end of the tower near the id pretzel. why in the world would they be working in that area when the theory of the ride is just l-th-b. and they have quite a few brakes up way down be the id helix. so why all the extra space by the pretzel? i think there will be more than just the l-th-b theory.
Take a look at this webcam that they just put up today http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/webcam/demondrop.cfm
Just to let you all know (I'm sure you've looked by now) the brakes are up connected to the track. It can be seenon both cams, although it's a little more difficult to see on the WT/DD cam.

There is back on the the WT Cam and it looks like it is still digging a hole for something
I agree with what Juppy said, but I too have seen what looks to be brake section. Looking at the new webcam, doesn't it appear to be quite a ways from where the supposed brake run is? Then why is there all this ground work taking place across from Power Tower. If it is for the que line, then thats one huge que. Maybe they will re-landscape this part of the park or maybe the coaster will eventually traverse to this cleared area. Im confused : (
or maybe the brakes they got up so far will slow the train down slightly before it goes into it's next element. well probably not but it's a thought.
Well you can see where the station footers are, and you know it will have to go at least that far down the midway (even a little farther, considering the turn to the station). I think the lagoon draining/land filling going on down by Power Tower will either be for the queue or maybe a widening of the midway.

"Meh."
Wicked twists: 11
Danger: Hgih Voltage!

Yes, widening of the midway would make some sense due to the amount of people traffic the area will see next year
