I rode Kingda Ka

I posted this in another thread that Rob Decker (planing/design Vice President) talked about them going over budget a little bit with the station. I don't know if that meant they scraped a dual load or not but another problem with them is space. Think about the amount space there is by TTD's station, there wouldn't be enough room for the midway.

8 out of 10 reviews from someone riding TTD and KK say the bunny hill doesn't do much and they also mention the roughness on KK. The launch on KK is much different as well. Other than being faster, its duration is longer. After getting up to 128mph in 3.5secs., you continue at 128mph for another second or two.

Why would KK be rougher? Is this something SF isn't taking care of or is it the added force.

I believe it's the result of a longer launch. The supports for the launch (at a certain point) are significantly longer than Dragsters so they sway more/they're not as stable. So as a train passes over the section of track, with the longer supports, it's a bit unstable and that causes the roughness.
Sorry, I couldn’t find any really good pictures that would show what I mean. But look at this one I was able to find of Kingda Ka's.

That picture was a good laugh when I first saw it. That's what Six Flags' gets when they try to build a taller and faster model of a coaster that has more problems than almost every coaster built before it. Of course the laugh came after the news of no one being hurt.

Yeah, it wouldn't have been a laughing matter if people were hurt.

Here it is, 1000! Okay, done celebrating, but it sure is fitting posting in an argument that is as old as time and these boards just about.

The forever lasting SF vs. CP, SM:UE vs. MF, KK vs. TTD, our employees vs. theirs, Dick vs. Dan, their Dippin Dots stands vs. our Dippin Dots stand. Its seems like we're so caught up in who's is better and they copied us and we hold the records that we forget why we go to the parks in the 1st place... to have fun. Does it really matter wheather or not TTD is the record holder. Is the ride not as fun anymore because there's one thats 20 feet taller in New Jersey? I'm thrilled that others get to ride and get to try to fix the Intamin Stratospher Rocket Coaster model. I think they should build more, just so others can have the fun.

I think we all need to take a look at this article, http://coasterbuzz.com/ed-rankandfile.htm, written by our very own Jeff for Coasterbuzz. It really doesn't matter whats tallest, whats fastest, what has the most inversions, just as long as it's fun. I will be very dissapointed if CP in 2007 puts up a hill and a station that's 500 ft. tall and nothing else.
And... just for the record, I agree with DJ, if CP was the one who built the ride after the first one, we'd all be saying how much greater it is than the other one.

Oh yeah, numero 1000!!111!!! Yippez! *** Edited 4/21/2006 1:58:37 AM UTC by Fastball84***

Still it would be pretty cool to say "I rode the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world!"

Anymore it seems I just miss riding them while they are the tallest. I guess I've ridden the tallest, fastest, only looping Wooden roller coaster. (with a darn steel loop :()

"Oh yeah? Well I've ridden four (three for me) rollercoasters that used to be the tallest and fastest roller coasters in the world"

^seriously, not a very good bragging right...

I'd say its pretty good to be able to say that I've ridden 4 coasters that were previous record holders, especially since they're all in one park.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

It's good to just say "HEY, I rode 4 coasters that are over 200 feet, 2 that's are over 300 and 1 that's over 400!.....and they're all at the same park!!!" :)

It's good to say Cedar Point is the nearest amusement park to my home and I'm going in a few weeks. :)

And that I'll be going 4 days after Opening Day! :)

The "tallest and fastest" marketing ploy can be a great magnet for guests, but in the long run it won't really matter. After all, the ride is the same great ride it has always been even if it isn't the tallest or fastest.

And that's why we have "The greatest amusement park in the world 8 years running!":)

What are you guys gonna do in a few years when IoA comes over and sneaks past CP in Amusement Today voting.

Finally go visit IOA. :) Just kidding, but in all seriousness, I have a friend who works at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in the R & D department, and in his opinion (he has worked at several parks, including IOA), IOA is the ONE park that rivals CP better than any other park in the world. I just found it interesting you brought it up.

Maybe it's the diehard CP fan in me, but I really dont see this happening. IOA seems more like a disney-type park...high on theme, low on thrills (in mass quantity), and that's just not my bag.

Obviously you've never been to IoA.

Im counting 5 coasters...two of which are for little kids. Am I missing something? (im on their website).

Dont get me wrong...Id love to ride Hulk and the Dueling Dragons, but how does that stack up to CP?

In my 3 trips to IoA, I still have yet to be anything but unimpressed. The rides are nice, but they're not really thrill-seeker rides; but rather smaller versions of them. I agree with Kevinj when he says that IoA is more like Disney than it is like Cedar Point; it's a theme and experience park first, and an amusement park second.

There's much more to that park than the two roller coasters, both of which would rank up there pretty high on CP's coaster rankings in my opinion. DD falling only behind MF, and Hulk probably being 5ish. And they have a suberb collection of fun rides. Spiderman is one of the most amazing rides I've ever been on. Jurassic Park River Ride is the best water ride I've ever seen. Hell, even their S&S launch tower is x100 better than CP. IoA gets it right, and realizes their is more to an amusement park than amazing roller coasters, something I think Cedar Point lost sight of a long long time ago.

I guess in my opinion that is why they have added SkyHawk and MaxAir the past two years. I know what you're saying, though...in that at IOA there is a "story" behind each ride, etc...but that is what I meant when I said IOA is like Disney. Hence, IOA is a theme park, and not an amusement park. The roller coasters is 99% of the reason we go somewhere.

That being said, FastBall, nice quote (Harry Doyle). Hopefully CC gets healthy soon! That was a painful series (KC) to watch!
