How will Intimidator 305 stack up against Millennium Force

CoasterChris's avatar

Haha, I have to go up Magnums this summer. I imagine if some guests had to evacuate 305, it would take quite some persuading.

I was thinking the same thing about the stairs. I mean how much harder would it have been to make a funicular? (sp?)

I mean that lift/truss support system sure left enough room on the left side of the track for a funicular. Im sure it was more or less a cost issue.

I was thinking the same with the cost. I bet it would have saved them some money and figured it would work just fine with the stairs.

I'm betting (like Joe noted) they're hating that decision so far. :)

I can't believe how fast the lift hill is... It's almost twice as fast than MF, but who cares about lift hill speed right?!?!

If you're curious...

I305: 18 seconds

MF: 27 seconds

Definitely a quicker lift. From the descriptions, it sounds like this is a must-ride. Can't wait to ride it later this summer.

And in case you didn't know, for some reason anyone and everyone over at Theme Park Review simply love to bash everything at Cedar Point. I don't know the history there, but it comes as no surprise that they would take a shot at MF.

Yeah, I found it strange that they said it "craps on MF!" It isn't THAT much better of a ride, but I feel it does beat MF... Trust me I am one of the biggest MF fans and I drive 10 hours from Richmond, VA to ride it every year. My opinion is that it is just better, but it definitely doesn't "crap on MF!" That was a little extreme.

I really think you guys, should make a trip down to ride it. It is worth the drive, and you also can visit 2 parks when you make the trip because BGE is right next door to KD.

I will be at Cedar Point opening day repping my I305 first rider T-shirt for sure! I hope you all don't beat me up!!! hahahaha

Having gotten my 4 rides on I-305 Saturday, I am in the group who still prefers MIllennium. I enjoyed I-305. But, there were a few things that will keep it from being higher on my list.

#1 - The restraints
#2 - It seems to loose it's speed too fast. Mostly because of the trim.
#3 - Though I don't mind greying-out once in a while (I get it on Millennium once in a while), I will have to fight it on every circuit of I-305 through the first turn.

Get rid of the OTSR's and remove the trim. Do that, and I would be closer to dumping Millennium from my top spot.

305 requires fall protection on the lift. It's too steep to go up/down without it. I imagine an evac would suck and be extremely slow.

There are no lateral G's to speak of, really. A quick direction change is not lateral motion the way an under-banked turn on a wood coaster would be.

It's a great ride, no doubt about it. Total home run, and sorely needed in the mid-Atlantic. That re-rideability thing for me though (or lack thereof) just holds it back a little, as do the restraints. Again, these aren't deal breakers, but if I had to pick, I'd still like Millennium Force better. Maybe it's the process of getting older, but I like the long floater air better. But like I said, I still dig it, and would love to go back with my wife, sooner than later.

But then, as much as I love The Voyage, a half-dozen laps on that and I'm pretty much done as well.

Has anyone ridden the carowinds intimidator? It looks more comparable to MF, considering there are no OTS restraints.

No, it's more comparable to Diamondback at Kings Island, or Behemoth at Canada's Wonderland.

I love the 2nd hill on Carowind's Intimidator. Its so....Twisty :)

Let's Get Weird.

How does it stack up? Well, Intimidator will not be as tall stacked up by MF, and it will be sitting in the lake getting stuck in the muck at the bottom. MF will still be tall as usual, on the edge of the peninsula.

It's funny how INTIMIdator sounds like INTAMIN! :)

Having just rode Imtimidator yesterday for the 3rd time, I have to say it is so close to being the best coaster. The restaints are painful, but I guess like maverick after a couple of rides you get use to the turns and how to avoid getting chopped acrossed the neck. The "grey out" is amazing. I experience it on MF but nothing like on I305, it is really cool. I'm off to the park again today to give I305 a couple more rides, now that I know when the banking starts it should be easier on my neck. 10 weeks till CEDAR POINT and MF.

I went to Carowinds opening weekend and their Intimidator is just like Behemoth and Diamondback (like Jeff said) to the point where I am not liking how Cedar Fair is putting the same coaster (for the most part) in their parks around the country. It seems like a six flags move, not something Cedar Fair should be doing (I understand with Power Tower type rides, but not for roller coasters). I find Diamondback better than Intimidator at Carowinds (Airtime is better, goes through woods -- not a parkign lot, and the splash pool is a great feature). I will be at Kings Dominion this Saturday and am eager to get on I-305. I have high expectations for this one!

Gosh, I've looked at the layouts for all three, and none of them look the same to me. They are similar, I guess, in that they're B&M hypercoasters with a conventional lift hill, lots of air time and and a (more or less) out and back design. But to call them identical designs is absurd. And even if they were, if people love the ride, why not?

Hey 9 hr ride (and anyone who's been on I-305), how well are they sending trains? How's the wait times and capacity so far? I know it's still early in the season to have a definite idea but I'm just curious.

Never said the 3 were identical, but they all feel nearly the same. They are all a big hill with a bunch of bunny hops. All 3 have the same elments and there are minor differences. Yes the layout changes obviously becuase each park has different portions of land available, but the feel is the same. My main point is that there is nothing that stands out as different between the three. As an enthusiast, there is no reason you should drive to one over the other becuase you will get a very similar experience.

Steel Force and Magnum (Similar)

Talon, Silver Bullet, and Raptor (Similar)

Steel Venom and Wicked Twister (Similar)

This is what I mean ... I have been on all these and they strike me as very similar in looks and feel.

Kevinj's avatar

As an enthusiast, allow me to elaborate:

Steel Force and Magnum (Similar)

Not even close. Cresting the second hill with Lake Erie in your face is a beautiful touch not many coasters can come close to, in my opinion. The trains are totally different, and Magnum's bunny hills certainly feel more "violent", if you will.

Talon, Silver Bullet, and Raptor (Similar)

I have not ridden Silver Bullet, but Talon, while definitely a fun ride, is half the ride Raptor is. Literally. Raptor is longer, taller, and more forceful.

Steel Venom and Wicked Twister (Similar)

See above. SV is a much less powerful ride.

Your point about the B & M hypers, however is expected. B & M makes cookie cutter rides, for the most part. That said, I would take my hat off to both SF and CF...they want to insure that everyone's home park has a home-run ride. Most people are not enthusiasts and will never travel from CF park to CF (or even have a clue what a "Cedar Fair" park is, for that matter).

There's a great reason -- they're three different credits! Seriously, where did you go to enthusiast school at? ;)
