They usualy start you at $6.25 or $6.75 an hour, unless you get a leadership position, then you get more.

Most positions start out at $6.25 an hour, some at $6.50. You also get paid $1 for every hour worked as long as you work the whole span of time you put down on your contract. You can get more info by visiting cedarpoint.com

As to why so many foreigners work at the Point - well, because it is an excellent place to work, and people will come thousands of miles just for that honor :-) I think that in a lot of countries, their money is worth more than hours, so whatever an international student makes at CP, the amount might be doubled in their home country.

Also, I guess it would be fun to spend the summer in a different country, and with all the great friends you make each year, it is worth coming back.

The pay is mediocre at best but ,IMO anyway, the perks are great I love playing in th park. (heaven knows I had enough time to do that)

A lot of foreign people work at CP because they come over on exchange programs and the like. Many come because they are promised 70-80 hours a week and can make more money here than back at home. I feel really sorry for those people when they realize that they're not going to get that many hours on a regular basis and they have to go find a second job. These people have a work ethic like none I've ever seen!

Thank you Jon! Our international employees are our hardest working ones. I don't know how many times I had to defend them to redneck guests that thought "amuricans" should be working here. Shoot if i thought i could make more money than my parents do in a year just by spending a few months working for an amusement park i think i'd be first in line to get my visa! I think i need to learn how to say no extra hours in about 4 different languages.

Indeed you are correct about the slave labour that CP "uses". The reason is simple econ 101! If U.S. kids wanted to work for 6 or 7 dollars an hour they would. Just look at the U.S. unemployment rate. At less than 6% it is still below what any economics student would consider the naturual rate of unemployment for our economy. Labour markets for the past 5-10 years have been very tight in large part due to demographics, thus the imports. I am all in favor of letting legitimates work, pay taxes, provide valuable service and obey our laws.

I may not sound like it but the imports provide a unique diversity and atmosphere that makes CP such a special place.

The work ethic of the employees, for the most part, was far better than the work ethic of the American kids. Granted some regions were better than others but on average I would say that is true.

The foreign kids don't just "show up", by the way. Cedar Point sends recruiters overseas to market the program and do some "weeding out."

Working as much as 73 to 78 hours a week during the peek season and seeing a foreign kid ask for "More" hours is just crazy!! I didnt mind though, less for me!
I heard rumors about a pay increase next season or an increase in the bounus. Just rumors though.

So called "americans" (Pat "adolf" Buchanan) are flat wrong about import workers. Most of them just want to work and live normally and for the most part this is true. CP has a good thing going and they will continue to do so as long as it makes economic sense!
screw the economics... i think cp is going for the diversity.

It has nothing to do with diversity. CP isn't Epcot Center. It has everything to do with not being able to get enough American kids to fill all of the positions.

Do you think they'd send two full time employees over to Europe for a couple weeks each year just to make the park look diverse?

It is all about being able to hire kids who are willing to sling burgers, clean hotel rooms, or push a broom.

I agree, it's for diversity, Cedar Point likes to advertise how diverse they are. I remember them saying something about how Cedar Point is 25% diverse. However you are right that they seem more willing to accept jobs where us "lazy Americans" would not, such as restrooms.

I agree with Chief on this one. I dont really think its about the diversity to much.

I like the fact that CP has such a diverse work culture. Whether they did it on purpose or not is irrelevant. CP's diversity is one of the reasons why I worked there for 2 seasons.

"Life goes on baby!! Give it up fpr DNA!!"

Brent02, this is not against you, since you are nice. . .and if what you said actually came from a CP ad, then its even funnier. . .but I doubt anyone would say they are "25% Diverse!" It doesn't really make sense. (would that mean 25% non-white? Or what? It just sounds funny.)

But I agree with the others in that the foreign people are not here to make the park more diverse. . .they are here because they are doing a job, filling a niche.

"Uhhh I don't think my restraint is supposed to move like this. . ."

Nah, I remember reading it on the welcome letter I got with my employee agreement. It wasn't a commercial advertisement or anything.

As long as the US unemployment rate remains low we will have the benefit of import workers. Its kind of neet to see.
